2013 In Review

2013 started with my 1st fish, well first 2 fish on January 13. I caught 2 chain pickerel at Beachwood. Through January and February I caught more pickerel, making it my most productive winter of fishing yet. In late February, March and April I switched to fishing for stocked trout. The first few outings I caught a larger class of stocked trout giving me hope for a great spring but I soon found nothing but the normal sized trout. In April and May I fished the Patuxent River for white perch and shad. I did not have as much luck as in 2012, but still caught a good amount of fish. In May I then decided to try Bladensburg for snakeheads. I did not have any luck for them but caught crappie, bass and cats in the meantime. I saw a few but did not have any takers. On one of my outings I met a fellow P&S'er Stash trying his luck for snakeheads too. I tried for no luck into June before switching to my normal summer habits of panfish, bass and carp. I also went livelining for stripers and had an awesome time. I caught over 10 myself, keeping only the largest around 27 inches. In August my brother and I rented a boat from SPSP and caught spots, croaker, toadfish and blues. In the fall I mostly fished for cats in the Potomac and met Hueski. I caught plenty in the 18-24 inch range with my largest coming in at 35 inches and 21.5lbs. From thanksgiving on I have been chain pickerel fishing with limited success because I have seen more ice early this year than normal. I only managed to fish the OC surf twice this year, but caught stripers to 19inches, spot, skate, blowfish and a dogfish. I also fished in St Lucia while on a cruise. I caught a small barracuda and another angler caught a white marlin, one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. I also caught my first speckled trout in over 10 years. Overall I fished as much as I could with decent success. Can't wait to get 2014 started.

I only fished a few new locations this year, including Bladensburg waterfront and St Lucia. I only caught a few new species too including a dogfish and toadfish. I met a few goals for this year too, catch a keeper rock and a shark in the surf. I'm still looking for that 40 inch rockfish and snakehead. I also want to catch something over 25lbs this year. I really want to try and fish the coast more this year. Tight lines in 2014!
