:D Yes Roger, if you want a winter project, thats is a good one. It is easy once you learn the how-tos. Here is my e-mail Reelfixer@mchsi.com. When you are ready, let me know.

austin,

ive been throwing around the idea of building an 9' 5wt. i'll probly use a rainshodow or forecast im6 blank, thats as fars as ive gotten so far. it does look failry simmple once you get the hang of it. unless you wanna do fancy butt wraps.

I do not believe there are any see thru tips any more. Shakespeare ugly stick was the last, and they are discontinued to rod builders.

Im6 is a good blank and your right, once you get the basics, the rest is easy.

That is ashame about the clear tips being discontinued. I love my ultra lite ugly stick. Was there any advantages/disadvantages with the clear tip. :?:

As far as I can see there were no major disadvantages to the clear tip. It was fiberglas of course, and solid while the rest of the blank was hollow.

Shakespeare I believe is still making them, but not selling the blanks. They are available as a finished rod only.

Might be that Shakespeare is not going to make the ugly stick using the Howald Process any longer. They may be using woven cloth instead.

I really don't know why they stopped.
