Casting a surf rod

3 posts in this topic

Ive been surf fishin Assateague island about 3 years now but only 1-2 weeks per year. Whats the trick to casting far. I use a 10' spinning combo with 20 lb mono. Ive watched other guys cast twice as far as me but never bothered to ask them how. Any tips or even a video would be great. Thanks in advance.

do a youtube search on long distance casting. Off the beach/ground, hatteras, and unitech are the three types used for everyday fishing. Stay away from the pendulum cast, its great for distance, but not good on the sand.

my cast is quite simple i gess u could call it an "off the ground" cast but i think my way is slightly diffrent take the bait/sinker stright out BEHIND YOU ( away from the surf) get your reel ready to cast then just "end over end" over your sholder this takes practios to know when to releas to get the beast distance but it works for me
