Any Tips for Beginner Shark Fishing from Beach?

3 posts in this topic

For the most part I am completely new to shark fishing. I have caught a few sand sharks in the 3 foot range or so over the past couple weeks off virginia beach pier but have not caught the first one recently after trying to fish from the beach. I have been using 60 lb test on a 10 ft surf rod with a single drop steel leader with an additional 10 inch steel leader ending at a 6/0 J hook. And for bait I've been using mostly spot, but ocassionally mullet and bluefish when theyre available. Any tips would be much appreciated. Anything from what to look for and how to read the beach for the best spot to place your bait, tides, etc..just anything that could be of help to me in landing more sharks regularly from the beach and to help others who might read this down the road.

switch to circle hooks. Make sure you have a safe way to remove hooks.
