Fishing assateague va side

Going for a week to fish at chincoteague and assateague island VA. the week of 9/26 /10.

what would fish would be running at this time of year, I'm surf fishing assateague. What bait are they using. Would the crab season still be on in VA.

Your best bet would be red drum, use a 9/0 hook on a fish finder rig, use Cobb mullet, king fish, peelers or bunker. You can also catch kings, flounder, spot etc. As for crabbing I'm not sure on va regs.

I'm using 20# line and a 40#shockleader. is this heavy enough or shoul i go 25# or 30#.

REGS.TAKE PLENTY INSECT REPELLANT.IN MY OPINION 30# TEST WITH 50# LEADER WOULD BE BETTER.SET YOUR DRAG FOR I/2 TO 3/4 OF THE LINE TEST WHATEVER YOU USE.WIRE LEADER IF FISHING FOR SHARK.THE REDS CAUGHT IN THE TOURNY WERE CLOSE TO OR OVER 4FT.

What Dave said. Got my first drum out there last year on 9/10. Lot's of big rays still around then too. Don't forget to cut them spot if half too and toss them out.
