Does anyone have any opinions as to whether older mullet and squid from last year is worth using? I know fresher is better, but could I use the old stuff as ground chum or feeding the birds?

I drift old squid all the time when fishing the bay and river. Of course fresh is better, but I've never had a problem catching fish with it :) Mullet, I'm not sure about. Are you talking about finger mullet or whole big mullet for chunks?

As long as it has been properly cared for...salted and vacuum sealed it would still work.

if the mullet hasn't been cared for then its going to be mush and wash out when its thawed out. good for crab pots, bad for fishing.
