I come down in June and love to surf fish. When I would come to oc later in the year i would catch stripers. June not so much i dont bring a boat down so i can only drive. Im just looking for some advice in general on how to catch them(like what tackle)and were to catch them in the summer.

Keeper stripers are not common during the summertime months, not unheard of, but defiantly not common. Your best best for timing is spring (Apr through May) or fall (Oct through Dec).

Spring and fall are the best time for the big boys,They are caught off the rt 50 bridge at night during mid summer,or the inlet jetty by casting floater /sinker lures. Not many keepers.

Use the same set up.

That is, if you are using a fishfinder rig.

Use larger hooks, at least 10/0, max maybe 16/0.

Use Circle hooks and a nice slab of bait, like a third of a medium Bunker, or the whole head hooked up through the bridge of the nose I guess you could say. Just make sure it's through the bony part of the "face" and NOT the eyes.
