... and the gas prices were lower....

My wife totalled our minivan Friday afternoon. Everyone is ok, but the minivan is done for.

Now, the thought (briefly) ran through my head that this is an opportunity for a 4X4  , but then I woke up and started searching the minivan listings again.... (sigh...)

Can you use AWD on the sand? Or does it NEED to be 4WD??? Possibly - I could always suggest that to her...

As for the RAV4? I bet that would be vetoed for size, plus the mileage at 30? - maybe that's the 2WD version? Here's what's listed on Edmunds for the 2004 (figured on a used one...) Better than my deceased 2wd T&C, but not 30.

Fuel Tank Capacity: 14.7 gal.

EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway)

Manual: 22 mpg / 27 mpg

Range in Miles: (City/Highway)

Manual: 323.4 mi. / 396.9 mi.

Well the search is on, but i'm not holding my breath

Just remember that a SUV holds just about as many kids as a mini van

hell yeah 8) Barbara's Escape* is a AWD :D

in the "switched" normal mode, it's front wheel drive then when the computer see's tire slippage, it automaticly transferrs 50% power to the rear wheels. now it also has a AWD all the time switch, but I've found that when on the beach, I have it in the normal mode most of the time and only use the "full-time" AWD when Im in soft-sand.

* also know as "Barbie's Beach Buggy"

Gas, what gas??? Its only money, you can't take it with you when you die!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, nah, I understand completely, my truck is a complete gas hog at 11mpg, maybe 13 if I stay off the gas, but I'd have to learn how to do that LOL. Minivans and SUVs don't get too much difference in Gas Mileage. My girlfriend has a 2005 Toyota Forerunner Sport Edition, thats with the V6 and on the highway it gets 23 MPG.....I know my old mini van only got 26...what's 3MPG?????

First and most importantly, glad everyone is well.

Second:

The Ford Escape has a Hybrid that comes with AWD and a nice long warranty.

Think itholds 5 and toss the dogs in the back cargo.

Well, the one sitting out front here has been playing in the mud and sevely salty roads for two years and it's still ok. It's not a Hybrid though.

I looked on Ford's site and they do not say to keep it on the road.

It's been a good little vehicle.

Oh well, went out tonight and the wife found a minivan pretty much identical to the wrecked one, but a year newer and with 10k less miles on it. Losing the battle.....

But thanks for the suggestions - there's always the third "fishing" vehicle option down the road  Until then, I'll look into joining Esox with a surf cart
