VCAN Director Darrell Parker articulated our non-profits public access position during the public hearing on Cape Henry Beach. Virginia Beach City Council*****approved by an 11-0 vote the Ordinance to acquire permanent easements to protect the public's right for recreation and provide sand replenishment at Cape Henry Beach by agreement or condemnation. Director Parker's public comment submitted tonight: The following public comments provided for the Virginia Beach City Council Public Hearing Dec. 9th, 2008 on Cape Henry Beach Public Access For the public record, I’m Darrell Parker of 195 Green Kemp Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462 and a Director with Virginia Coastal Access Now. VCAN supports the City of Virginia Beach’s effort to put an end to the continued questionable claim by a few water front property owners that Cape Henry Beach is a private beach. No beach or waterfront in Virginia Beach or within Virginia’s coastal zone is truly private.
