MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

FISHERIES SERVICE

SUMMER FLOUNDER RECREATIONAL FISHERY SEASON CLOSURE

The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources, pursuant to Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 08.02.05.12E, announced the closure of the 2008 recreational fishery for summer flounder in all state waters effective 12:01 am October 24, 2008. The National Marine Fisheries Service has estimated that Maryland’s 2008 recreational quota for summer flounder has been achieved.

The 2009 Maryland recreational fishery will open January 1, 2009 under conditions outlined in COMAR 08.02.05.12.

I have seen this in a couple different places as well. I think its legit!

I just sent an email to the DNR -- hopefully they will respond and we can see if this is a hoax or real.

The more I think about it, I can't understand why the DNR wouldn't have this on their site. How are people supposed to know about this closure?

Thanks for finding that! I have added a RSS feed from the Maryland DNR which should show up as new posts on the home page.

It is amazing how much important information we miss daily!
