Never fished down near you, however I know your fishing should really be turning on in the near future....based off of fishing north of you and south of you...you can look forward to spanish mackerel, king mackerel, pompano, cobia, Red Drum, and sharks out the wazoo!!!!! I'm sure someone who's fished the topsail area will speak up soon enough..GL

Surf rod from 10' to 13' with ratings anywhere from 3-5oz, 6-8oz and 8+oz will work, just depends on what your fishing for.

A 10" rod with a 3-5oz rating will be great for most general fishing and then you can work your way up to casting 8oz and a bunker head on a fish finder rig for the bigger stuff.

Are you a spinning or casting guy?

Tica or Tsunami make some good starter surf rods that will work great and last.
