Probably start boat fishing a little more than surf and interested in tog rigs. Going togging and need some detail on rigging from a boat, hook size, leader material etc...

Thanks,

We make our own Rigs. They look just like what JamesTackle sells

Blackfish_Blaster_Tautog_Rig_2-1.jpg

Use 50# test and 2 Mustard Va Style hooks.

Use a 75-100# barrel swivel.

Make it about 3' Long.

Make the Hoop for the Lead large enough to use Heavy Wgt on those tough days.

We use Green Crabs or Sand Flees. Green Crabs are best IMO.

for tog around rocks i put the singer on with a rubberband, its the part that usually gets stuck, and the band breaks first.

the above rig is fine... just get rid of one hook...

Scott, try to keep it simple... loop on the end for the sinker and dropper loop 3-5" from the sinker for direct hook... no leader needed... i fell in love with owner SSW hooks past couple years 3/0 or 4/0 depends what bait i'm fishing...

expect to loose lots of tackle... less on the boat than from the shore...

good luck and DON"T GET FRUSTRATED... :director: they will steal your bait...

let us know how you do...

Yup, lots of tackle. They like to grab your hook and hide in the rocks or other structure. I have caught lots of them using sand fleas, but if you can get your hands on some of those little warf crabs around the rocks, that's the best bait I've ever seen for tog.

Don't use sinkers get some old nuts and tie that to some 5lb test most time you lose your rig by getting stuck in the rocks with your sinker, that way when they take you in to the rocks all you lose is some old nuts and the line will break and you will get your rig and fish back..

Old spark plugs work too just clean them up of any greas or oil.

On the Morning Star last year we used a rig similar to the one above. Used green crabs and put one hook in one backfin and the other in the second backfin. I've also seen people use spark plugs as sinkers.
