1. Things are slow here in the Myrtle Beach/Murrells Inlet SC area this time of year... Fishing Reports Myrtle Beach/Murrells Inlet area Fishing Report Fishing the Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach area is seasonal with the fishing a little slow for March til the middle of April. Mid April, the fishing starts to pick-up for some Flounder and Red Drum. Everything[Fishing] is always weather related in Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach the sooner the water temp. gets in the 60's the fishing will get better. Late April thru December is always a good time for fishing for Red Drum, the bait moves in and the fishing turns on. June, July and August, the water temp is getting rite for ALL fishing in the Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach areas! Everything is good at the beach! People are out in the sun, shopping, fishing and the Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach area is hopping! August and September the Spanish and King Mackerel are on the beach and can be caught live baiting along the coast. We often catch them at the jetties or 3-mile reef or trolling with planners and spoons. Fishing at Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach during the summer months you never know what you are going to hook-up with so expect to catch a anything while fishing, maybe even a SHARK. For all you that like catching Trout, Weakfish Trout are plentiful sometimes around Sept/ Oct. While the true Winter Trout only starts when the water temps start dropping in to the 60's and lower. I'm Capt Shannon Currie and hope you have a great fishing experience while fishing in Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach please call or visit the site below if you need more info. There you will find all fishing info and pictures.
2. Got a question about Rocks this happened to a friend of mine and me the same night. My Buddy had 2 nice rocks that he had caught and had on ice for 2 days I had 2 nice rocks that I had caught and had on ice for less than 20 hours we both fillet them and he cooked his one way and me another (used a crab cake res. spread it out on top of the fish and broiled them). Took em out of the oven and they looked a tad bit over cooked but nothing tooo bad. Man o man took one bite of them and the fishy taste was sooo bad and over powering that I couldn't eat another bight. Felt bad about that and put them down for the dog to eat and she couldn't even finish them. Called my buddy up the next day and he said his fish had a real bad fishy taste to them as well. When I cleaned the fish they looked good and I even cut out the dark meat on the fillet. Not sure what went wrong but was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and what I could do in the future to make sure this doesn't happen again...Tanks
3. A bunch of friends and I are heading down to Assateague March 13th through the end of the weekend. I an experienced fisherman but I've never been to the island. I've been doing research and was wondering is someone could tell me what I could expect to catch that time of year down there. I've seen a lot of the shark pictures and have the kayaks to bring bait far out but wanted to know if they'll even be active in-shore that early. Also I know most guys are tight lipped when it comes to spots but if someone could point me in the right direction as far as location it would be much appreciated although I'm not sure that that is really possible when it comes to surf fishing. Thanks for any help.
4. caught this peculiar looking creature at the CHSP pier about a week ago...it was 5-6 inches long...any idea what its called???
5. Hi Everyone, i am heading down in a couple days. Can anyone tell me where they sell fresh bait? and maybe what baits are best now,,.. or is anything biting in this hot weather? Thanks.
6. Went out to dinner at Masons in Easton with some friends. Sure enough, skate was on the menu. This is a fairly high end resteraunt (wouldn't think skate would be on the menu) and asked the waitress, just to be sure, "what is skate"? Yep, its the skate we catch. I didn't order it, but my buddies wife ordered it and the meat was fried and was shaped just like a skate wing (half moon). To my suprise, it was very good. Next large skate I catch, it's coming home.
7. How do you usually clean them? and cook them? Do you skin them, fillet, steak or what ????? I eat a little bit of one I cooked last year but, didn't care for it. My Son said he really liked it, probably the way I cooked it.
8. Everyone should watch this video then contact the Aquarium that passed out bad information, the News Station that thought this was news worthy and CNN for reposting the link. Many of us are avid beach shark fishermen/women during the summer. We know the rules, we know the species...if we don't, there's no question, it goes back to be caught again. I felt my blood boil when I watched this last night. And to see the two fishermen with their "oh look I did good" looks on their faces while they were being interviewed holding it.....So let them have it...I've already called CT DNR and they said it had already been reported and an investigation is being conducted....not really sure what needs to be investigated, there are the two morons standing there holding an illegal DEAD shark.....oh well, lets hope these guys air a retraction and an apology with a follow up story teaching all the weekend warrior fishermen out there that if you don't know what it is or the regulations for it release it to fight again another day.... 9. Of all the time I've spent fishing the bay i have never really targeted flounder. Ive caught plenty on peeler fishing for greys. What is everyone's favorite jig or lure or rig for catching them? Thanks in advance for the insite.
10. I was just wondering about specifics about driving onto the beach at Assateague. What is the cost of a year round drive on pass? Does your vehicle need to be 4x4? Also what about tire pressure? I just hoped someone could clear these things up for me...Thanks!
11. Ok, why not? The spring get together is in the past for this year. Time to move on! Time to start talking about a summer get together on Assateague. Generally, this happens in August, down past the Bull Pen. Later on, we will set up seperate threads in reference to who's going, what to bring, and who needs a ride. To start with, we can figure on a two-day event, possibly three days. In the poll, vote for what day you would like to see the event START. If you choose Sunday, we'll figure that means Sun-Mon (and Tues?). And of course if you choose Friday, we'll figure the next two or three days. Remember, weekends are more crowded and MAY involve waiting to get on the beach, if you get there after about 8 am. Cast your votes!!
12. Hey guys...I am about to go on a another trip, but I took a couple people out last night and we caught something amazing. By far my most memorable fish catch of all time. Here is a teaser, a full report will come tomorrow when I have gotten some rest!: Anyone want to guess what this is? Ben
13. Hey guys, new to the site, semi-new to surf fishing! I mainly fish AI and wanted some input on my current rod/reel setups, conventionally i currently have: Diawa SL30 Penn 525mag Penn 12' stick (forget the model) Diawa 10' Emcast plus How would you guys match these up, diawa with diawa or would you mix them. Also, my casting distance on these conventionals is certainly not what it should be, what would you recommend as the best casting method for these as a beginner? I've watched many videos, i've tried different methods, I have a huge fear of the birds nest, What should i do?????? Thanks in advance!
14. Got to the bottom and see 16 visitors, and me ,sign up ,it's easy.i would like your report .here is what i did last week, like to see your catch.
15. So early Sunday morning I was slowly lifting my 12ft rod and dragging my bait (shrimp) and 4oz weight across the bottom. when the tip would get all the way up, I would reel it back down and then slowly repeat the process...essentially out of bordom, and because I was a little cold so it was nice to have something to do. So i'm bringing it in, and all of a sudden- it's stuck. Not really like in the lake where if you catch something it slowly brings up tension as you pull harder on it. This was just...stuck. Figured the surf had pushed it under something... But, I'm in the ocean? So what the hell am I stuck on? I've been casting in this spot all weekend, and never had any issue. So, I pull, and pull, and pull. I'm putting A LOT of force into my rod. Getting nervous I'm going to break it the thing is bent over double, I could easly pull a fairly large hunk of wood through the water...I've got 20lb test w/ 80lb shock leader, so I know I can put a fair bit of force on it. So after pulling for 5 min. with no success, I start to let the line go slack, like you do when bass fishing, to let the sinker or hook de-lodge itself. No good. After 15 more min of me walking up and down the beach trying various angles, I let it go completely slack walk back to the sand spikes and other rods, reel up the slack, and really pull. Then, it kinda moves and instantly comes free. Not broken, no damage to the sinker or hook (2/0 circle), no damage to shock leader. So, I tell my friend about this (a long time Maryland surf fisherman) and he thinks I wasn't stuck at all- he thinks it was a big ray or skate, possibly buried itself in the sand. And now I'm kicking myself, because at least that would have been something for the photo album. What do you guys think? A bunch of BS? Or could I actually have had something? Ever heard of this happening? Or of people getting stuck on the camping beaches at AI????? It's been bugging me since I got back...something just doesn't make sense...
16. Well the past few year's ive been trying different brands of fishing lines and some are better then others. Some hold knots better, some have less memory, and some will cast farther then others. The best brand that i have tried was Ande line. But i would like to here what brand line you guys use.

Friday I had some brand new clients fresh from California. Joe M. and his two sons Dan and Michael had just a super day with stripers in the morning and bluefish and big croaker after lunch. The blues were especially abundant, and fun, as they averaged two to four pounds with several becoming airborne like miniature tarpon. What a blast this was for three fellows that haven't done much light tackle fishing. The guys did real well and I think they're hooked. This bluefish action is just starting to heat up and should last for the remainder of the summer. This is great fun on light spinning and fly tackle for anyone wanting to test their endurance. Capt. 24. I've asked around and I'm not quite sure what kind of skate this is. People have ideas but nobodys sure. Anyone know? I've heard so far it was two different types by two different people I was hoping to find someone who sees them on a regular basis and would know for sure
25. I have a few questions about the type of rod, reel, and line weight for when you are casting a guidline out off a pier that you put live fishbait on. Is #50 line ok? I was also wondering if I shold use a heavy weight spinning reel with a 13 footrod? What weight is the anchor? I knw the anchor has four hooks on it. Where can they be purchased or is it easier to make them.
