1. Got a question about Rocks this happened to a friend of mine and me the same night. My Buddy had 2 nice rocks that he had caught and had on ice for 2 days I had 2 nice rocks that I had caught and had on ice for less than 20 hours we both fillet them and he cooked his one way and me another (used a crab cake res. spread it out on top of the fish and broiled them). Took em out of the oven and they looked a tad bit over cooked but nothing tooo bad. Man o man took one bite of them and the fishy taste was sooo bad and over powering that I couldn't eat another bight. Felt bad about that and put them down for the dog to eat and she couldn't even finish them. Called my buddy up the next day and he said his fish had a real bad fishy taste to them as well. When I cleaned the fish they looked good and I even cut out the dark meat on the fillet. Not sure what went wrong but was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and what I could do in the future to make sure this doesn't happen again...Tanks
2. A bunch of friends and I are heading down to Assateague March 13th through the end of the weekend. I an experienced fisherman but I've never been to the island. I've been doing research and was wondering is someone could tell me what I could expect to catch that time of year down there. I've seen a lot of the shark pictures and have the kayaks to bring bait far out but wanted to know if they'll even be active in-shore that early. Also I know most guys are tight lipped when it comes to spots but if someone could point me in the right direction as far as location it would be much appreciated although I'm not sure that that is really possible when it comes to surf fishing. Thanks for any help.
3. Hi Everyone, i am heading down in a couple days. Can anyone tell me where they sell fresh bait? and maybe what baits are best now,,.. or is anything biting in this hot weather? Thanks.
4. Ok, why not? The spring get together is in the past for this year. Time to move on! Time to start talking about a summer get together on Assateague. Generally, this happens in August, down past the Bull Pen. Later on, we will set up seperate threads in reference to who's going, what to bring, and who needs a ride. To start with, we can figure on a two-day event, possibly three days. In the poll, vote for what day you would like to see the event START. If you choose Sunday, we'll figure that means Sun-Mon (and Tues?). And of course if you choose Friday, we'll figure the next two or three days. Remember, weekends are more crowded and MAY involve waiting to get on the beach, if you get there after about 8 am. Cast your votes!!
5. I remember someone on here talking about the haywire twist for tying steel leader to hooks/swivels. just wondering how strong it is, i couldn't find any crimps anywhere around my house so i just used that knot for tying the leader to my hook and swivel(going down for a night tomorrow with some friends). It took some practice but it seems really strong when i try pulling on it, any help would be appreciated, thanks
6. It has slowed down just a bit with the hot temps. Kingfish, Spot and Croakers are still being taken from the suds. Sandtigers, Sandbars and a few other Sharks are still being caught up and down the coast. Saturday we went down to wet some lines and ended up with only 2 Kingies, but got 6 Sandkitties.
7. Hit Dam Neck with Non-Caster from 4:30pm - 7:30pm for last of incoming..... Grass in close was not fun, cut up and tossed the only two fresh fish we caught (1 spot, 1 croaker) and had some fun with biters. We landed 3 Sandbars from 3.5'-4' ft, I got bit off once on a run and Non-Caster lost a stud biter, probably 5ft + in the first breaker when he finally bit him off. Had his SHV spooled more than 3/4 way down if not further, before he finally got him turned. He was a stud of of the box, absolutely smoking run and such a sweet sound! Looked drummy if it wasnt for the grass!
8. Hey everyone...Just wondering if anyone will be out either OC or AI saturday evening? I will be down Saturday during the day and just wondering if it would be worth staying and fishing Saturday night. Let me know!
9. I was catching non-stop doggies last week, so after gut hooking two of them, I decided I was fish hungry. I cleaned them right on the beach, and iced them down. The next day, I cut them into chunks, marinated them in olive oil, sea salt, freshly ground pepper and fresh lemon for a few hours. I also threw on a few steaks just in case my experiment didn't turn out as planned. (plus, Carrie won't even touch a doggie) I must say, it was exceptionally good! I put a little butter on while cooking and it was very tender, great flavor (simple ingredients) and I will definitely do it again. Here are also a few pictures of some of the striper from this past weekend, tuna, steaks and corn. I love to grill!

11. I recently moved down to GA and like to surf fish when I can. I'd like to try and surf fish down here on weekends, but don't really know of any surf fishing spots, towns, or the regulations. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
12. So early Sunday morning I was slowly lifting my 12ft rod and dragging my bait (shrimp) and 4oz weight across the bottom. when the tip would get all the way up, I would reel it back down and then slowly repeat the process...essentially out of bordom, and because I was a little cold so it was nice to have something to do. So i'm bringing it in, and all of a sudden- it's stuck. Not really like in the lake where if you catch something it slowly brings up tension as you pull harder on it. This was just...stuck. Figured the surf had pushed it under something... But, I'm in the ocean? So what the hell am I stuck on? I've been casting in this spot all weekend, and never had any issue. So, I pull, and pull, and pull. I'm putting A LOT of force into my rod. Getting nervous I'm going to break it the thing is bent over double, I could easly pull a fairly large hunk of wood through the water...I've got 20lb test w/ 80lb shock leader, so I know I can put a fair bit of force on it. So after pulling for 5 min. with no success, I start to let the line go slack, like you do when bass fishing, to let the sinker or hook de-lodge itself. No good. After 15 more min of me walking up and down the beach trying various angles, I let it go completely slack walk back to the sand spikes and other rods, reel up the slack, and really pull. Then, it kinda moves and instantly comes free. Not broken, no damage to the sinker or hook (2/0 circle), no damage to shock leader. So, I tell my friend about this (a long time Maryland surf fisherman) and he thinks I wasn't stuck at all- he thinks it was a big ray or skate, possibly buried itself in the sand. And now I'm kicking myself, because at least that would have been something for the photo album. What do you guys think? A bunch of BS? Or could I actually have had something? Ever heard of this happening? Or of people getting stuck on the camping beaches at AI????? It's been bugging me since I got back...something just doesn't make sense...
13. Well got back from oc and had a great time met alot of people turned 15 and im down there i decided well i dont love my rod and reel. So thought i might as you guys. I would like a rod that can cast alot of weight like 8+oz. and im lookin for a reel that will hold like 300 yards of 20lb test. It can be casting or spinning and i would like the rod and reel to be under $250. Oh and a 2 peice rod is neccesary because i obviously travel so thanks. This is question number 1 after the 2010 oc trip.

17. i am going down the week after july 4th(5-9),dont have a boat, where should i go to catch stripers, blues, flounder etc. and what time of day. i fish for stripers alot just have never fished in the area. thanks!
18. I know bluefishing this year is hit or miss but are there any blues hangin out in the Inlet?? Maybe on incoming tide.??? 7 Days today so im so exited. We will start packing on monday after father's day and hope to see some of you guys down there!! Happpy Fishing!!
19. Did a few quick hours at Dam Neck only had a skate, small sandbar shark and tiny roundhead to show. Tons of menhaden crusing the 2nd bar, so many in fact a 30'+ Humpback was only 100-150 yards off the beach feeding like crazy while I was there. Called the aqaurium unit to let them know about it, and they said she has been up and down the oceanfront close feeding the past few days. Cool sight to see a whale that close to the beach coming out of the water engulfing all that bait! Now the bad part...somehow a Browing wallet full of rigs and terminal tackle worth of $150+ must have fallen off my pier cart on the beach or in the parking lot. If you happen to have stumbled on it, please send me a PM and I will be happy to give you a reward for it!
20. Anyone been surf fishing there lately? Going down in 2 weeks and wondering whats hitting now. Thanks
21. OK every one for those of you that don't know what the Spring Fling is, here's a brief run down several years ago when this site was young a hand full of us here on Atlantic Anglers got together to do some fishing and just hang out and have a cook out on Assateague island for the day. As some will remember the first year was a little wet but others were very nice. The reason for this thread is to try and nail down a date for the Fling it will be held in May the questions the need to be answered are to have a one day or two day Fling so people will have a better change to come so the dates that I'm suggestion are. 1. Saturday May 22 2. Friday May 21 and 22 3.Saturday May 29 4.Friday May 28 and 29 This thread will run for the next month or so and then others will follow with more information.
22. I am bringing my girlfriend down this Saturday to do some fishing and I am hoping to get her her first saltwater fish. She loves to fish and I would love for her to get something. I am new at fishing the salt and was wanting to both pier fish in Ocean City and surf fish also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
23. Had the privilege yesterday to wet a line with Joe Bruce of Fisherman's Edge fame. An avid fly fisher, Joe put the fly rod down long enough to catch this 26" striper on a Stillwater Smack-it popper. I guess we caught fifty rockfish from 14 to 26 inches. Schools of silversides were everywhere, and occasionally became airborne, in their attempt to evade the hungry stripers. Capt. Kevin Josenhans Josenhans Fly Fishing
24. Hey is about that time of year for the big ol' sharks to come to town. Might be a little early, but I am sure ready to catch them! This summer, instead of just ONE week at the beach like past years, I will be LIVING at the beach from Late may til Late August! I cannot wait to see what sort of sharks we can hook into this summer! Anyway, does anyone have any knowledge as to the sharks that pup in DE bay? I had heard that the Scalloped Hammerheads will use the DE bay to pup, which tells me that there should be some migratory females coming up the coast? Who knows...but I am sure as heck going to try to catch one. I caught one 4' pup last summer. I could be wayyyyyyyyy off...but I am going to start sharkin' hard right when I get down. We will see if I can pick up anything! Ben Dziwulski God bless
25. Where can I purchase a "venting tool" and are they a necessary item for salt water fishing? What is their basic construction? Could I use just a straight piece of wire? Where can I obtain proper user procedures for this item? I am a Great Lakes fisherman, and we just "burp em" when we retrieve a fish from down deep and want to release em!!! The procedure we use could be termed "a gentle bear hug" where we gently squeeze the fish until we hear/feel the air escaping from his/her mouth!!!!!
