  1. anyone know if Bucks opened up yet? If not, thanks for the John Henry suggestion. Its not far off, and I will tell "Dude" you all said Hi.
  2. Hey all, sorry, I know I read about this is a different forum. Did Bucks open yet? If not, can anyone recommend anywhere close to it? (its my usual go to...)
  3. Hi Everyone, i am heading down in a couple days. Can anyone tell me where they sell fresh bait? and maybe what baits are best now,,.. or is anything biting in this hot weather? Thanks.
  4. Anyone know what the Surf is like? I'd planned to head out Sat night thru Sun afternoon, but I'm not sure if the OSV is open, or if I have to cast over 12 foot breakers...
  5. I’d concur, since switching to circle hooks I’ve set the hook more often and lost less fish, and it’s always sitting pretty around the mouth. Real quick release… and most of all, real easy release, I can spend a moment looking and admiring my fish before release, rather than a panic’d de-hooking session,. and that's why I'm there.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
  6. This has been one of the most educational threads I've read in my short 7-8 years of surf fishing. The advanced perceptions shared by some elder anglers (and that doesn't mean older), has really given me something to think about. I am a more responsible angler because of this thread, and that deserves my gratitude. Thanks for sharing everyone. While I’ve never hurt a fish, as I start to catch bigger fish and go for bigger fish, it reminds me to keep learning as you could do something even if unintentional. Anything that promotes safety of fish, resources, and anglers sustains our current situation, which I've grown to love in my short 7-8 years out on Assateague. And yes, there are always those who wish to take away our passion, so it’s important we look at these angles and perceptions. Thanks again for all those sharing. Take care of your beach, water, and fish. Teach a kid to fish, and teach a kid to fish correctly- that’s what you’ve done for me here. (35yr old kid.) Thanks.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
  7. Fished Friday and Saturday, skate, 1 kingfish, an hour battle with a ray... (my there were a lot of rays this weekend. I must have seen 50 large rays just crusin the surfline...). We also had one hook up that screamed the drag straight out, played with us for an hour and a half, .. then took off straight out again. Just before spooling me - I had about 20 yards left on the reel, the line broke. I think it broke on the outer bar as I was about to get a couple hundred yards back in with the line. Possible it dove deeper and the line was rubbin in the bar out there.
  8. I am coming down in a couple weeks and I am wondering if anyone can tell me a bit about surf fishing in myrtle beach. can you fish right in front of the hotels? Is anything biting right now...(or in 2 weeks,)
  9. Wow Dave, his teeth are wicked scary. Your almost spooling is exactly what happened to my Saturday night, about 325 of my 17lb test staight out, only I had incredibly different results. Nice Shark, its those that keep me out of night yaks.

  11. I went twice and got skunked, then I did some research (internet/books) as I was river small mouth fisherman orginally. My 3rd time grabbed me my 1st strike! the ugliest thing I had ever saw, a bif fat skate..... 10 minutes later a 8 in blue and then a kingfish... I was hooked,. Haven't gone out for smallmouth in 4 years now. Can't wait for some evenings on Assateague....
  12. Fished Sat and Sun, like others it was like I was feeding the lil' snappers. I couldn't keep bait on the hook for long. Caught a king and a couple 15 in blues, but mostly I feed snappers for 2 days.
  13. Thanks. Finaddict, how did you get the warning? I unfortuately headed out w/ my wife at 12 noon yesterday. When we got there at 3pm, imagine my surprise.... I was not pleased. We were lucky enough to get a camp site at the State park as I was just planning on staying out all night fishing. I had one hook up at sun down. What ever it was ran straight out, far out. After 30 minutes working it back to about 30 yards out, it ran straight out again. Another half hour later.. about 30 yards out, somehow I lost him... Which was fine by me, my arm was killing me. Ok, thats a lie, no one wants to come up empty handed after that... Maybe a ray.
  14. Hey Steve, thanks for replying. "L8v, I haven't seen skeeters with an east wind. " Sorry, your right. I meant a wind blowing East. The forecast this weekend had me scared with the wind blowing out of the east a 5 mph. I figured the wind was carring all the skeets over the bay onto the beach... Did anyone have to seek shelter in the break? It takes me a couple hours to get there, so I would hate to turn back. (I go out every couple weeks anyway.., but thought I'd ask.
  15. Sorry for the dumb question here guys, but last time I was out (couple weeks ago) with an East 5 mph wind, the skeeters were coming through my jean to suck me dry! And that was with 40% deet. My only cover was to hide in the crashing waves. While I understand it can change on a dime, anyone have a beach skeeter report in this current wind.
  16. That Fox wasn't neally scared of me either, this was him last week during the new moon. All I saw were glowing eyes from my little bon fire.:eusa_shifty:
  17. Tell me about it. I was out the week prior Tues Wed & Thurs. The only things I saw were fish on my hook and fox on the beach.
  18. Don't want to start this one off negatively, but yesterday wasn't soo productive for me. After starting out late and sitting in traffic to get down to AI, I then sat in line to get out there:BangHead:. Beach access was over 20 vehicles deep. I managed to pull in one king as big as my thumb. Lesson learned, I won't come late again... I can't wait to get back out there and try that one over. Beautiful water and weather though.
  19. Hey all, I ran away from everything and spent Tuesday - Thursday fishing on the beach. I didn't get any sharks. At sunrise I caught spiny dogfish, then skate and kingfish all day long, and then sunset the snappers caught everything thrown in the water. No flounder. I had 3 poles going and the baitfish would not stop feeding. I actually pulled those poles out as I was exhausted from running down and unhooking blues and kingfish for 2 days straight. I wound up just soak a spot head to see if I could get something larger and relaxing a bit. Crabs were tough. Reports of foxes were right on spot. I was visited by one really closely that kinda freaked me out, but he was cool. I did see another few while taking my ride back in. I can not wait to get back out there. I have some really bad pics of the fox visiting me, I'll see if I can learn the resize to post them.
  20. Hey All, spend Friday Afternoon, and all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. 1 skate, 3 flounder, 2 blues... Tough fishing for me this weekend.
  21. Can't always be positive news, I got skunked Saturday 9am - 4 pm, not even a snapper, skate, or doggie. I threw all I had at em....
  22. Headed out today for my 1st of the year. I had a blast today with the blues. I caught around 20 blues today, all were 15-20+ inches. (nothing like the 32 in chopper! (NICE Fish). But it was a blast! Great weather too! 6-10am was great, and 12-3pm was great, but for some reason 10-12 was quite. I had to pry myself off the beach, as I kept thinking "the next one would be huge". None were huge, but always fun. Still in need of a Striped fish. I'm looking forward to playing hooky from work more often, if I would have had email access I would have emailed another sick day and stayed the night.
