  1. I'm sure the reports will start here pretty soon down near the mouth of the chez... I will assume VA reports will start around the beginning to mid April if not sooner. Depends on how the weather cooperates...
  2. Hey Bev, started to make it a go up that this weekend but friends came into town early Friday so dulled my plans for any fish'n. Good luck to everyone fish'n the tourney and I'll see you in a few weeks... Brian
  3. I have all my surf gear and la reels lined w/ 20lb pp and have been using it w/ no problems for the past 2yrs. Have landed several 35&quot+ stripers and a 49&quot+ drum last year w/ out any problem. No breakoffs, no lost fish and happily satisfied. Yes it can be expensive but I've never paid more than $80 for a 1500yd spool and it lasts a good while... We'll see how it holds up for my drum trip in a few weeks... just my .02c
  4. Had the option of taking Friday or Tuesday off for the holiday... so Friday it is. Headed out to the Eastern Shore around 5ish.. stopped at the RT 50 bridge to toss some lures at 7:30, no takers... Headed over to Harbor Tackle around 9ish for some bait and convo w/ Bev... Bait on ice, report that big blues are still in the area and maybe a striper or two, my hopes are high. Arrived ORV area to deflatulate (lol) the tires and head to the ole honey hole. In route I see a gent get'n some nice pullage and decided to hang a sec to see what the trophy was. A minute or so later a nice chomper looked to be around 30++. He stated that was his second of the morning. Geared up and headed on down, only a few folks fishing.. weather was nice.. a little overcast but gorgeous none the least. Backed in and jumped out to get one rod in the drink just in case there were a few feesh hangin around. First rod in the drink about 10ish and set'n up the other two. As I'm tying another hook, WHAM!!! rod bows over (rod in the drink less than 5mins) and after a nice little battle fish on the beach - 31" blue. Baited back up and re-tossed... Finished set'n up the second and third rods, launched the second and was about to bait up the third and WHAM!!! first rod bows over again.. 28" blue.. looks like they're still here. 3rd rod in the water and walkin back to the truck.. WHAM!!! second rod bows over... 29" blue... 3 fish w/ in the first half our.. watch out now... Had several bow ups but fish shook the hook loose when reeling in... :BangHead: Well, switched from the 7/0 back to the 8/0 and didn't loose another fish. Noticed a lot of bird action a ways off in the distance, but as they came a tad bit closer the fish turned on and I kept this in mind once the bite slowed... Around 2:15 after a slight calm in action - I noticed birds again diving in the distance. Well I threw on some fresh bait and casted out on the two heavers... As I placed the second in the holder the first bows up and starts singing jingle bells so I join in on the carol and sing the lil drummer boi on in... 32" blue.. nice fatty.... Well just as I get this one on the beach WHAM!! my second goes off... bring that one and decide to unhook and recast the first.. heading back to unhook the other fish and my first goes off again.. and bending like crazy (spot head)... Man get over to the rod and this fish is fighting like crazy and given me a run for my money... Arms tired, but no rest for the weary.. a few minutes of battle and out comes a 33.5" nice chomper... Boi what a blast.. I lost between 7 and 10 fish due to the fish coming unbuttoned.. still managed 7 monster blues. The last coming when I was packing everything up. Cast out for a little finale. Hoped in the truck and turned it around facing the rod w/ the rain coming down a tad bit steadier... By the time I could put the truck in park... WHAM!!! another hit... Jumped out to land an ince 26" blue. Headed on out w/ some fish for the fam and time to do some shopping. All in all a great Friday and great end to 06'. Well, maybe We'll see if the Mrs' let's me out one more day... Hope everyone had a great Christmas and hopes for an even better and safe New Year... A few pics of the previous week's outing w/ the pup - Siris. He also joined me this week and had a great seagull run... LOL.. sorry for the delay on the pics...
  5. Added the pics on the first post for your viewing. Had a blast and was hoping for another shot before 07 but looks like a no show. Hopefully all will have a great New Year. Enjoy
  6. Hope so Coop... Plan on testing that theory this weekend. I'll be sure to post my report... Good or Great... :3some:
  7. Nice Feesh... hopefully I can get some of that action for this weekend... What area of the beach were ya feesh'n...
  8. Haven't heard any good reports. Plan on heading to AI this weekend how has everyone been doing and how has the holiday shopping turned out for ya.. As for me... :dontknow:
  9. For the report... Coop I'm with you on the shopping. The kids are done, now I have to get the Mrs' out of the way.. what a task that is.. Tiffany's, Vicky Secrets... Goodwill.. Salvation Army.... LOL.. I'm glad she doesn't visit this site... In hopes of hitting AI this weekend and maybe some big striper or blue action... I have my fingers crossed that it's a go...
  10. I've done very well during the Full Moon phase.. the water is a tad bit higher during the high and low tides which in my opinion brings the feesh in a bit closer. My first drum ever was caught the second weekend in October (full moon phase). Caught the biggest catch and size of croakers on a full moon. Biggest bluefish caught on a full moon. Caught the most keeper striper on a full moon... recently - 11-3 through 11-5 caught 5 stripers 22 - 25 in the ChesBay. Everyone has their opinion and I'm stick'n w/ the Full Moon does it big for me. Off the subject... heard some big blues are being caught up in Delaware, would that mean that there may be some big blues out at AI right now? Didn't mean to hijack your thread... just a question.
  11. CB... how do you like em... I'm thinking about pick'n one up to add to my aresenal...
  12. Hey Steve, I have 3 OM's (2 -12' and 1 - 10') all lined w/ 20lb pp. I use a 50lb pp s/l and did not have a problem pulling in a big ole red a couple of weeks ago. Granted I had the drag set or I don't know if I would be telling you of my success. Has worked well w/ me... also have spare reels set up w/ 40lb pp as well. Going to set one up w/ at least 80lb pp for Tog fishing the jetties or inlet. BTW.. has anyone tried out those OM Cape Pointes... I've been somewhat curious about them. The only exception that is that they do not have a corked handle but I guess I can cork it myself. Thoughts are welcomed...
  13. Arrvied @ AI around 9ish on Saturday morning and headed south a few clicks past the pen... Received some pointers on area but this seemed to b good spot... a slew just to my left and short breakers just ahead of me.. possible good structure... Well it paid off... got into some nice bluefish right away and the bite died off around noonish. Considering the lenght of time between the bite.. gave the Mrs a call to check on the younguns.. Proceeded w/ the knock knock joke w/ my two year old and I gaze into my rear view (got into the truck due to the wind, should've had the hatch popped and sat in the back...) and see one of my OM12's bouncing like a two dollar..well ya know.. lol... Anyways jumpbed out the truck to head back and the rod is at and past a 45deg bend.. WTH... It's on... and it was for about a second thereafter when I attempted to loose the drag... SNAPOLA....free lining... rig setup gone.. and no fish... Hmm.. will be sure and have that darn drag set next go round. Hung up the phone and proceeded to set that rod back up.. oh., did I say set my drag.... Well you guessed it as I was tying the line back for this setup to recast... I heard a rattling sound and look to my left and my other OM12' is near a 45deg bend... I ran to the rod and pulled it up and also to loose the drag... all most got it... SNAPIZZLLEEEE... another gonner.. what is the likely hood I'd get two mega slams w/ in a 2minute period... Yeah I know, smack me when you see me... LOL... Anways, got both lines set back up and out in the water and proceed to get into some shark.. landed 5 and lost a couple more, around the 4' range. The tide stared heading out around 3 or 4 and I tossed out another spot head on w/ the baitrunner.. EB80. Wham!!! I get a hit on my other rod as I cast out this one... I run over and proceed to get a nice fight on another shark..not sure what king they were.. whomever has an idea take a look at the pic. I'm walking to the waters edge to let the shark go and all I hear is the baitrunner peeling off line like a mutha... bzzzzzzz... bzzzzzzzz... bzzzzzz... bzzzzzzzzz... Man.... another shark I thought... maybe this just isn't my day... Lost two monsters, that I can imagine and now another shark. Well as I grab my setup and pull it up out of the rod holder the line peels off more at a more frantic pace.. wth do I have here... Tried to first let down on my drag before giving the reel a click to kick off the runner... but the fish wasn't having it... I believe it pulled off another 150+ yds of line.. Finally get the drag loosed and give the reel one click to kick off the runner and the fish makes another solid run... Uh Oh.. here we go... the battle was on and I say to myself this aint' no shark buddy boi... Man, I had just lost a fish when the 60lb fluro got smacked in half I hope I don't loose this one.. hmmm wire leader on this puppy so let's go to work... 10 minutes into the action and I make some way on the fish to about 50yds out where I can see something just under the surface. Couldn't make it out just a tanish color fin.. Man I hope this isn't a big arse ray... my hopes are slimming down.. but I continue to bring this puppy in... OMG... IS IT SO... the fish is now in the breakers... and I get a side profile.. OMG... IT's a MONSTER... OH OH OH.. as I maintain my composure, as the passers-by watch as I reel in my first AI Drum... Be calm bubby boi cuz this baby could peel you off in a second and leave you with nothing but a strung out arm and pumping adrenaline... FINALLY got the fish through the wash and on the beach what a beauty... Man.. Man.. Man... what a day.. the feesh measured all most 49", I would guesstimate around 35lbs+. Not familiar but someone can clarify.... What an awesome day of fishing and relaxation. There wasn't another vehicle w/in 300yds of where I setup and I was in the fish most of the day... Man, can't wait to do that one again. Hopefully I'll be there next weekend for the holiday.. If you see an silver Mountaineer stop by and give a holla... PICS in the gallery and hopefully they'll show here. Have a great one...
  14. Yeah that "GRIN" is classic... ... To bad there's not an emoticon to represent the fullness. BTW.. went to the doctor and I was told that the "Hook" was permanent... LOL Thanks again all...

  16. Trowpa - what actually happened was I didn't have the baitrunner set on my EB80, nor did I have my drag loosed on the BR or the Dolphin reel I was using. Tight drag + monster slam = several things.. broken rod, jacked up reel, broken line and most of all- lost fish. In any equation the answer would be E: All of the above. When the Drum hit I had my baitrunner set but was unsure if I had the drag loosed after I casted out. So in an attempt to adjust it the fish keep taking line and I was like Oh Shiggity am I actually going to get a chance to make a move on this fish or what. Finally on a lull I was able to take my drag down and take a turn on the reel to knock off the runner - could've did it by hand but didn't. Once the runner was off as stated the fish took another run and my drag was set darn near perfect (IMO).. anyways proof is in the pudding and I was able to get Ole Nelly ashore, take some pics and send her on her merry little way... Man, I believe I could tell that story again and again. The excitement in just thinking about another shot at a fish of that size is unbelievable...
  17. Cuz I was in a zone when I landed that fish. If the folks that were present could tell ya my hands were shaking like craz-e. It was a tremendous effort for me not to throw my rod up in the air and do the water dance... Thanks all for the welcome aboard ... I'll be sure and post after this weekend upcoming. Hopefully I'll be able to make the journey again because Mrs Huntsman will be out of town and maybe the LiL Hunts will be in the Carolinas. It's a 30-70 chance but what the hay... I thought those sharks may have been sandbars but wasn't sure didn't have a reg manual/book. Mrs. Drum here I come again... Hey, I may need a referral for the FAA 12 step program. Anyone have the number?
  18. LOL... my fault. Have never caught a fish of this size before and I figured if I was incorrect on my weight I would be corrected... Thanks again. I'll be sure and have my weigh tool the next go round...
  19. Nice feesh Man.. what an eventful day.. I left just around 5pm and would've stayed longer but I had the honey do list to take care of and I had a 2+ hour drive to get home... Whew... here's my beauty I landed around 4:30... ~49".
