  1. ANAHEIM Colorado Avalanche T-Shirts Authentic , Calif. (AP) The Edmonton Oilers have been reduced to playing spoiler in the playoff race. It’s a role they seem to be relishing, creating plenty of drama along the way.Ryan Strome scored twice and the Oilers recovered to beat the Anaheim Ducks 6-5 in a shootout Sunday after giving up two goals in the final 21 seconds of regulation. After nearly allowing Los Angeles to overcome a two-goal deficit in the final 18 seconds of a 4-3 win Saturday, the Oilers found themselves playing extra hockey Sunday when Rickard Rakell scored with 20.9 seconds remaining in the third period to make it 5-4 and then tied it with 6.3 seconds to play. He beat Al Montoya with a wrist shot from the slot after Derek Grant won the faceoff against Leon Draisaitl.Following a wide-open overtime in which both teams had plenty of chances to win, Draisaitl and Connor McDavid scored in the shootout for Edmonton and Montoya stopped shots by Ryan Getzlaf and Ondrej Kase after Rakell made his.”When you’re not really in the hunt anymore you’ve got to find ways to keep yourself motivated and we’ve definitely been able to do that,” said McDavid, who had three assists. ”I think our last two games have been two of the best that we’ve played in a long time and it’s good to see.”Draisaitl scored in his third straight game for the Oilers, who have won three in a row and four of five. Montoya made 41 saves, and Anton Slepyshev and Iiro Pakarinen also scored. Michael Cammalleri had two assists, giving him 12 in his last 12 games.Rakell had his first career hat trick and Getzlaf added a goal and two assists for the Ducks, who have earned at least one point in six consecutive home games. Adam Henrique scored a power-play goal, and Ryan Miller stopped 37 shots. The Oilers haven’t had much go right this season. They made two trades over the weekend and appear poised to move Patrick Maroon before Monday’s deadline after the forward was held out for the third straight game. Despite the turmoil, they are also delivering some of their best performances right now.”It shows character in the room,” Montoya said. ”The core is committed to this team and they help and lead the way.”Strome, who had his fifth career multi-goal game, put the Oilers ahead 3-2 at 7:02 of the second period. Hampus Lindholm nearly broke up Draisaitl’s centering pass during a 3-on-2 rush, but Strome was still able to reach back and score. He added his fifth goal in five games by scoring 2:31 into the third for a 4-2 lead.Getzlaf’s long shot redirected off the back of Yohann Auvitu to cut the lead to 4-3 with six minutes to play, but Pakarinen scored 1:40 later to restore a two-goal margin. While the Oilers were surging this weekend Colorado Avalanche Hoodies Authentic , the Ducks went on a downward trend. They took only one of a possible four points against Edmonton and Arizona, the bottom two teams in the Pacific Division, and were sluggish from the start Sunday. Getzlaf made a poor pass at the blue line right to Cammalleri in the neutral zone, and he fed Draisaitl for a shot between Miller’s legs to put the Oilers up 1-0 after 13 seconds.”We played good for four or five games in a row and then this weekend we just kind of were a little bit flat. It’s hard to explain, but it’s just the reality of it. So, proud of the way we came back, got a point, and we’ve got to build off that and get ready for the push here,” said Getzlaf, who made amends by helping set up Rakell’s goal at 1:46 to tie it at 1.By rallying for one point, Anaheim moved into third place in the Pacific Division with 74 points. The Ducks are one point ahead of Calgary, which dropped to the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.”We pulled our goaltender and scored two goals,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. ”You don’t know what that point is going to mean at the end of the year.”NOTES: Oilers forward Zack Kassian did not return after being clipped by Kase midway through the first period. … Slepyshev scored for the second straight game. … The Oilers acquired forward Pontus Aberg from Nashville in a three-team trade. 2. WINNIPEG Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , Manitoba (AP) — Blake Wheeler knows the Winnipeg Jets don’t panic when they fall behind. That mindset paid off again Thursday night when Kyle Connor scored with 1:14 remaining to give the Jets a 4-3 victory over the slumping Columbus Blue Jackets.“We’ve done it enough this year that we have a lot of confidence that we know we don’t have to change our game,” Wheeler said. “We can continue to play the same way for 60 minutes.“We’re going to generate enough chances. It’s just a matter of finishing them. Some nights they’re going to go in, and some nights they’re not.”Winnipeg won its sixth consecutive home game and handed the Blue Jackets their four straight loss overall. The Jets also came from behind to beat the Bruins 4-3 in a shootout at Boston on Tuesday.Mark Scheifele scored his team-leading 26th goal of the season for the Jets Womens Jared McCann Jersey , with Wheeler getting his 54th assist. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella had no update after the game.Despite the loss, Tortorella was satisfied with his team’s performance.“I thought our guys rallied together and played a good game Keith Yandle Jersey ,” he said. The Blue Jackets led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two, but Roslovic tied it at 8:47 of the third when his hit shot went into the corner with 17 seconds left on a Winnipeg power play.Winnipeg killed off a penalty with six minutes left and then Bobrovsky made a big save on Mathieu Perreault.Wheeler helped open the scoring after a Columbus turnover when he set up Scheifele for a one-timer that beat Bobrovsky at 4:34 of the first.Ryan Murray sent the puck between the skates of a Winnipeg defender right to Panarin’s stick and he fired it over Hellebuyck’s glove to tie it at 8:52. Panarin has a three-game point streak with a pair of goals and three assists.Anderson got the go-ahead goal on a power play when Panarin found him in the slot at 13:30.Appleton made it 2-all when his backhand hit Bobrovsky and trickled under the netminder at 13:21, but 57 seconds later Bjorkstrand regained the lead for the Blue Jackets.UP NEXTBlue Jackets: Home against St. Louis on Saturday.Jets: Host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. BUFFALO Authentic Nick Bjugstad Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo tells The Associated Press he’s feeling good while recovering from his third concussion in less than three years.A smiling Okposo made the comment Saturday while making his way through the press box to watch Buffalo’s home game against Washington. His appearance came after coach Phil Housley said Okposo has begun skating on his own a little over a week since being felled by a punch to the face during a fight with New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo.Okposo was cleared to travel for the team’s game at New Jersey on Feb. 17. He did not play against the Devils and instead was sent home, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.Housley didn’t provide a timetable in saying he imagines Okposo returning to play this season.“He skated again today and those are all good signs for us,” Housley said.Okposo’s concussion history includes him missing the final two weeks of the 2017-18 season and spending nearly a week in a hospital after what he called a routine hit in practice. He also missed three games last March after suffering a concussion in a collision with Ottawa’s Bobby Ryan.
  3. VANCOUVER Dylan DeMelo Jersey Womens , British Columbia (AP) — Thatcher Demko was nervous before stepping on the ice.It sure didn’t show. The 23-year-old goalie made 36 saves in his second NHL game, leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.“An opportunity for me,” Demko said. “I’m just really excited and wanted to make the most of it.”Alex Edler, Sven Baertschi, Brock Boeser and Loui Eriksson scored for Vancouver. Bo Horvat had two assists.Buffalo got goals from Evan Rodrigues, Kyle Okposo and Sam Reinhart. Linus Ullmark stopped 19 shots.“For a large majority of the game we played the way we wanted to, but those mistakes we’re making are just a little too big,” Reinhart said. “I’m sure we can correct and we are going to.”Demko, who made one appearance for the Canucks last season, was called up Jan. 4 from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League after Vancouver traded backup goalie Anders Nilsson to Ottawa.“I’ve been working hard and just patiently waiting for that first chance,” Demko said.He was tested early and often Friday, and his performance had the crowd chanting “Dem-Ko! Dem-Ko!” in appreciation of some highlight-reel saves.“He was great. Good to see. He was one of our best players tonight Gabriel Gagne Jersey Womens ,” Vancouver coach Travis Green said.Rodrigues beat the young goaltender 8:48 in after Rasmus Ristolainen got a pass to the left wing down low and Rodrigues chipped it up over Demko’s pad.Vancouver had yet to register a single shot.Edler got the Canucks on the board 3½ minutes later with a massive slap shot from the blue line. The speeding puck squeezed through traffic and past Ullmark down low.Vancouver went up by one at 15:31 of the first after defenseman Derrick Pouliot sliced a pass through the Buffalo crease to Baertschi, who collected it on his tape and popped the puck into a wide-open net.The Swiss left wing sustained a concussion in October that kept him out of the lineup for 30 games. He has six points since he returned late last month.Early in the second, Pouliot and fellow defenseman Erik Gudbranson got caught behind the Vancouver net, leaving Okposo wide open at the hash marks. The right wing got the puck and flipped a backhand past Demko to even the score.Vancouver pulled ahead once again eight minutes into the period.Horvat stripped Buffalo’s Lawrence Pilut of the puck and made a beautiful pass to Boeser in front of the Sabres net. The right wing tipped it in for his 16th goal of the season.“Me shooting the puck hasn’t been working so I thought I’d give it to somebody who’s going to put it in the net,” Horvat said.Horvat doesn’t have a goal since Dec. 20, but his assist was his 200th career point.“Never when you’re playing in the NHL do you think you’ll be able to hit these kind of milestones,” he said. “It’s really exciting and it feels even better to get that win.”The lead didn’t last long. Almost three minutes later, Conor Sheary made a quick pass to Reinhart in front of the Vancouver crease and he put in a no-look backhand up high.“Probably half our team didn’t play their best hockey game. And when you can not play your best and win, that’s a real bonus in the NHL,” Green said.“Our goalie gave us a good period in the third period. And we found a way to win a hockey game.”Nearly six minutes into the third, Canucks left wing Josh Leivo dug out the puck from behind the Buffalo net and dished it to Eriksson. He put a one-timer past Ullmark for his fourth point in three games. The Sabres had opportunities to tie it again on a power play late in the third. Ullmark was pulled with 87 seconds left, but Demko held strong.“Responsibility without the puck James Van Riemsdyk Jersey Womens , that was the difference. But I can’t complain, we had a heck of a game,” Buffalo coach Phil Housley said. The Canucks registered just four shots in the opening period. Demko kept them in a game that got off to an “ugly” start, according to Horvat.“That’s unbelievable. Especially at a young age, coming in. These are meaningful games and he stepped up like great players do and he played phenomenal tonight,” Horvat said. “We owe him a lot of credit.”NOTES: Vancouver’s Nikolay Goldobin was a healthy scratch for the second game in a row. … The defeat ended a three-game swing through Canada for the Sabres, who lost 7-2 in Edmonton on Monday and beat Calgary 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday.UP NEXTSabres: Off until after the All-Star break.Canucks: Host the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. TORONTO (AP) — It took two late goals by Zach Hyman and a huge comeback by Toronto to end its longest losing streak of the season.Hyman scored two goals in the final 1:50 of the third period as the Maple Leafs erased an early 3-0 deficit and beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-3 Saturday night.William Nylander and Auston Matthews each had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Ennis and Andreas Johnsson also scored for Toronto, which snapped a season-high three-game losing streak. Frederik Andersen stopped 32 shots, and Patrick Marleau, Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly had two assists each.Hyman and Johnsson scored empty-net goals.“The first 10 minutes we were all over them and then all of a sudden it’s 3-0,” Hyman said. “What a win for us to end a losing streak Matt Cullen Jersey Womens , to come back like we did (on) Saturday night against Montreal.“It’s a good feeling.”Andrew Shaw and Jeff Petry each had a goal and an assist, and Tomas Tatar scored for Montreal, which had its three-game win streak halted. Carey Price made 31 saves.“Hockey games lasts for 60 minutes, and we didn’t play the full 60,” Canadiens winger Artturi Lehkonen said.Hyman netted the eventual winner when he scored off a rebound of a shot by Mitch Marner. It was Hyman’s 12th of the season.“Everybody contributed,” Hyman said. “It was one of our best team wins of the year to be able to come back like that.”Johnsson added his 17th into an empty net with 57.5 seconds left. Hyman’s empty-net goal came after he was taken down on a breakaway by Shea Weber.Montreal built a three-goal lead early in the game. The Maple Leafs closed within a goal in the second period and tied the score at 6:58 of the third on a fortuitous bounce. 4. Titans Training Camp Day 6 Notes After a day off Womens Steve McNair Jersey , the Titans were back on the practice field Wednesday. They were in shorts and shells, so it wasn’t a full padded practice, but there was some physical hitting nonetheless. 3rd Star: Derrick HenryDerrick Henry and Dion Lewis both had good days, but Henry really stood out. He opened the team period with a really nice windback run off a zone look. That’s the second time I’ve seen that run open up big during practice and again Henry hit it hard and got in to the second level. Henry also stood out in ways that were encouraging for his overall development as a back. Possibly the hardest hit of practice was Henry stepping in to pick up a blitzing Jayon Brown in pass protection. Henry also has been better than most would anticipate as a pass catcher. The Titans offense has spent a lot of time flexing backs out wide and letting them run routes as a receiver. Henry will never have the quicks of a guy like Dion Lewis, but he’s quite capable of doing some damage as a receiver and he gives Mariota a big target on slants. It was a good all-around day for the Titans young starting running back.2nd Star: Adoree JacksonWhile Malcolm Butler has grabbed the headlines with his interceptions in camp and feisty attitude, Jackson is quietly playing like a budding star. Today Jackson starred, making some great pass breakups. First he got Tajae Sharpe with his physicality on a hitch route, then he used his hops to sky with Corey Davis and punch the ball free on a fade route near the goal line. Jackson appears to be more physical at the line of scrimmage this year and has completely erased receivers at times during camp. 1st Star: Harold LandryAs Mo noted earlier this week, Landry has been getting a lot of extra reps with Brian Orakpo out with a shoulder injury. He took advantage of those reps today as he was a force on the edge against the Titans first team offensive line. Landry got sacks on back to back snaps at one point during the red zone period at the end of practice. Once winning with speed around the edge and then teaming up with Derrick Morgan to run a game on the right side of the Titans line with both rushers ending up in Mariota’s lap. Landry’s strength setting the edge has been good as well. It’s clear that he’s going to get a lot of snaps in this defense, even when Orakpo is healthy. Injury UpdatesJohnathan Cyprien: Cyprien went down with a left knee injury during practice today. After staying down for a moment, he was able to get up on his own and walk to the locker room without help. His frustration was clear though as he threw his helmet on the way off. Hopefully the injury is nothing serious. No news will qualify as good news here. If we get to tomorrow without an announcement about him being put on IR, that should tell us that he’ll be OK relatively soon.Malcolm Butler: Butler sat out today after appearing to turn an ankle on Monday. It didn’t appear to be anything serious at the time as he got tape and tried to go back in, but it appears the team is being extra cautious with all injuries.Rishard Matthews: Matthews got some good news today as Jonathan Hutton of Midday 180 reported that the Titans receiver was out running routes before practice today Malcolm Butler Jersey , something we haven’t seen from him until today. Hutton said that Matthews looked good, with no noticeable limp or restrictions. Hopefully that means we see him back on the field soon. It will be interesting to see what the offense looks like with their top three receivers together on the field. It will also be interesting to see where he slots in relative to Taywan Taylor.Brian Orakpo: No update on Rak as he continues to be held out with a shoulder injury.Jonnu Smith: Smith was back in action today and looking to be 100%. Rashaan Evans: Still no Evans today. This is the most mysterious of all the injuries.Luke Stocker: Stocker was back today as well.Jack Conklin: No update here. Conklin continues to watch practice remaining on the PUP list.Phillip Supernaw: Supernaw was out at practice today walking around and watching. I don’t think I had seen him out there previously, but he remains on the PUP list with a mystery injury.Offense NotesOverall, it was a decent day for the offense. The defense probably won overall again, but it wasn’t a complete shutout like it was on Monday. Mariota was sharper today I thought. He had one bad miss on a throw to Luke Stocker in the flats, but besides that he was mostly accurate. He continues to be exceedingly accurate on deep throws down the field. Fades and posts have been on the money from Mariota consistently in camp which bodes well for the offense’s ability to create explosive plays in the passing game this season. Corey Davis was back in action after getting a planned day off on Monday. He had a couple good moments. My favorite was a post route in the red zone working against Adoree Jackson in a 7v7 period. He did a great job of leaning in to Jackson at the top of the route before breaking back inside to create separation and then went up high to catch the ball in the back of the end zone. Really good stuff there. He did have a bad drop during a team period though. He got free deep on a post route and Mariota dropped a great ball in, but he bobbled it and eventually had it knocked away by the recovering defensive back. Taywan Taylor continues to stack good days on top of each other. He simply eats defensive backs alive during 1v1 drills with his quickness in and out of breaks and has no issues beating press coverage there. He also made a great contested catch in the middle of the field on a deep dig with at two or three defenders all converging on him. I’m not 100% sure that Matthews steps right back in to the #2 spot when he comes back.Jonnu Smith’s return produced one of the offensive highlights of the day as he took a tight end screen to the house with a great run after the catch. Smith looks like a stud.Guard Cody Wichmann got some run with the first team at left guard during a team period late in the practice. He’s pretty clearly third behind Quinton Spain and Kevin Pamphile as the Titans look at their options at left guard. Dion Lewis looked excellent on some catches out of the backfield. He is just ridiculously quick. He also took a carry around the corner for what would have been a touchdown during team period. The Titans backfield is going to be really good.Anthony Firkser continued to get some reps high in the rotation despite the return of Smith and Stocker. It’s clear that he has made an impression and he continued his good play today with a couple catches. It was a rough day for the backup quarterbacks. Gabbert had a couple nice throws, but also threw a few in to coverage and missed bad on a deep ball that should have been open. Falk also badly underthrew a deep post and generally struggled to get completions. Jet sweeps showed up in the offensive repertoire today as both Michael Campanaro and Darius Jennings got handoffs during team periods. That was a big part of the Rams offense in 2017 and it looks like it might pop up in Tennessee this year as well.Defense NotesI thought LeShaun Sims had his best day of camp today as he filled in for Malcolm Butler with the top defensive unit. He had a nice breakup against Nick Williams and looked like he belonged out there. After Cyprien went down with an injury, the first safety in to the starting rotation was Demontre Hurst. He’s consistently been playing high in the safety pecking order this camp and has a real shot at making the roster.Kendrick Lewis made his best play of camp today as well when he jumped in front of a Blaine Gabbert pass to make a diving interception (though I’m not 100% sure he held on to the catch).Austin Johnson had a really nice win versus Xavier Su’a-Filo in a pass rush drill between the offensive and defensive line as he used a nice club-rip combination to quickly dispose of his blocker.Bennie Logan flashed a couple times as a run plugger in team period. He is tough to move off the spot. The defense broke out a pass rush package featuring Aaron Wallace, DaQuan Jones, Derrick Morgan, and Harold Landry from left to right at one point today and it was quite effective, resulting in a split sack between Morgan and Landry. I would imagine that group will be Orakpo Taylor Lewan Jersey , Casey, Morgan, and Landry when everyone is healthy this season and that should be a ton of fun to watch. One defensive wrinkle I noted was a set that looked like man to man pre-snap, but morphed in to a cover 2 zone with cornerback Adoree Jackson dropping in to one of the deep half positions across from Kevin Byard. It was an interesting look.Josh Carraway flashed in team period with the 2nd team, picking up a sack on a nice speed rush around the right tackle. Odds and EndsOne thing that I like about Vrabel is that he really tries to bring the energy in practice. He sprints from station to station during individual periods and at one point ran by a group of offensive lineman, showing off his speed. Despite Landry’s overall strong day today, the battle between him and the Boss Hogg Taylor Lewan have been mostly one-sided in favor of the two-time Pro Bowler. That’s no surprise, but the cool thing to see is that Lewan makes a point to give Landry tips after each rep, trying to help the rookie improve. Working against Lewan will only make Landry better when he gets to have a go at lesser tackles. The handling of injuries has been a little frustrating for fans and media so far because the team simply doesn’t give any information about what’s happening with a player, but I will say that I think the very cautious approach with shutting guys down if they’re even a little banged up is a smart one. Being as healthy as possible entering the season is crucial for any NFL team. It seems like the Titans are monitoring practice reps and the amount of work that players put in on a day to day basis and giving days off to try to manage that workload.Tim Shaw was out at practice today. It’s always great to see him and the relationship he has with this team. The Titans got some kick return work in today and had five guys working as possible returners: Adoree Jackson, Michael Campanaro, Dion Lewis, Akrum Wadley http://www.thetitanslockerroom.com/authentic-kamalei-correa-jersey , and Rico Gafford. The Titans are back at the normal practice time on Thursday morning at Saint Thomas Sports Park. On Friday they will travel down to Williamson County to practice at Centennial High School for their second annual “Friday Night Lights” practice. Then Saturday, they’ll host an open practice at Nissan Stadium from 3:30-6:00. Lots of good opportunities to come out and get a glimpse of the team. Adam Schein wins Co-National Writer of the Week award as he says BUY IN to the Titans 3-1 start. It’s almost like he understands that the Titans beat 2 really good teams and won the third game with Blaine Gabbert. The other Co-National Writer of the Week is surprisingly Pete Prisco, who ranks the Titans at #3 in his power rankings. Pete understands what power rankings are. They are rankings of how teams are performing right now, not projections, current, real, rankings. I’ve seen the Titans as low as 20 in some places, and around 12 in others. Pete is by far the highest on the Titans, but with good reason. At the quarter pole of the season, the Titans are awarded the best coaching staff in the NFL by NFL.com. Couldn’t agree more. 5. METAIRIE M.J. Stewart Jersey , La. (AP) — No matter how much New Orleans’ defense may have improved since this season’s opening week, linebacker Alex Anzalone doesn’t see the benefit in dismissing as irrelevant the 48 points the Saints surrendered in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.“In the back of our minds, if anything, it’s just motivation to be on your Ps and Qs this week,” Anzalone said this week, as New Orleans prepared for the rematch in Tampa Bay. “They do have a really good offense. They have a bunch of play makers, so we know what they’re capable of. There’s a lot of motivation for this game, but as a defense, that could definitely be one of them.”In Week 1, New Orleans’ busted coverages led to a 529-yard day for the Buccaneers’ offense, highlighted by touchdown passes of 58 and 36 yards to DeSean Jackson and 50 yards to Mike Evans. Tampa Bay’s offense accounted 41 points, with one Buccaneers TD coming on safety Justin Evans‘ fumble return.Yet the Saints defense that was on the field that day scarcely resembles the one playing practically lights out for the past month. The Saints have held each of their last four foes to between 7 and 17 points.“That’s huge in this league when you can hold a team to under 20 points, especially with the offense we’ve got http://www.buccaneerslockerroom.com/authentic-jordan-whitehead-jersey ,” Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said. “I’m going to bet on us most times.”Confidence is surging. Botched assignments are few. Sacks and turnovers have risen sharply. New Orleans has sacked opposing QBs 13 times in the past two games, during which they’ve also taken the ball away six times.“It’s been impressive,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “As a coach, you’re encouraged because we’re receiving good end play, but we’re also receiving great tackle play and I think inside we’ve really been able to push the pocket.”Those recent performances have made New Orleans’ season-opening stumble look more like ancient history.“That was a lot of first-game errors that we had to work out,” Anzalone said. “It wasn’t necessarily who we were as a defense. It was just something that we weren’t locked in enough or didn’t execute enough to get the job done.”Rankins, a first round draft choice in 2016, is having arguably his best season with seven sacks. Five of his sacks have come since Week 8.Like the rest of the Saints defense, he did not have a sack in Week 1.If the Bucs study game video from their previous meeting, Rankins said, they’ll see the same scheme New Orleans us using now, but vastly different execution.“With the way we’ve been playing, I think they’re going to have to try to attack us in a different way Womens Cameron Brate Jersey ,” he said.Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter said he sees a Saints defense that has “evolved,” both in terms of young players improving as well as with some key personnel changes, such as a mid-season trade to bring in cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants. Apple quickly took over as starter in place of Ken Crawley.“Their defense is playing pretty well at this time, all the way across,” Koetter said.If New Orleans’ defense has been consistent in one area, it has been against the run. The Saints have been near the top of the NFL in that department all season and rank first through 12 games, and that’s not simply because opponents are choosing to pass more against them, Koetter said.“They’re playing with the lead a lot, and teams are throwing the ball,” Koetter began. “Still, when you watch the tape you go, ‘Man these guys are pretty good against the run.’ I think their front seven is really playing hard.”Notes: WR Michael Thomas practiced fully on Thursday after resting his sore ankle on Wednesday. … Offensive tackles Terron Armstead (chest) and Ryan Ramczyk (shoulder) were listed as limited on the practice report.Bucs officially announce they have brought back WR Dye The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that the team has signed wide receiver Donteea Dye, running back Devine Redding and long snapperGarrison Sanborn. Dye (5-10 Lee Roy Selmon Jersey White , 195) spent time with Tampa Bay from 2015-16, playing in 11 games, with five starts, catching 11 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown. A Cincinnati native, Dye played collegiately at Heidelberg. Redding (5-8, 205) played collegiately at Indiana. He originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 and spent that offseason and preseason with the team. He is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. Sanborn (6-1, 240) played in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season, after having played for the Buffalo Bills for eight seasons (2009-16). In his career, he has played in 144 games, recording 31 special teams tackles and one fumble recovery. A Tampa native, Sanborn played high school football at Jesuit High School and collegiately at Florida State. This report comes courtesy of the Buccaneers Communications Department.
  6. The game that almost got away A few choice quotes came out of the San Francisco 49ers 30-27 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 2. Those from Richard Sherman resonated with me more than the others. “A win’s a win http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-arik-armstead-jersey , but it feels like a loss to me,” Sherman said. He went on to add, “I think it’s a good lesson for a young team that we needed. It’s a humbling lesson. Thank goodness we got the win out of it, but there’s a lot of good tape, a lot of good learning from this.” Thank goodness we got the win. There’s several reasons why. The first being the obvious momentum we need this season. It’s been a weird start to this season. After we lost to Minnesota, the overall sentiment was positive, it was a loss that felt like a win. However this week after we won, it felt like a loss, as Sherman said above. Second, there’s a stat that’s thrown around ever year after week two that indicates teams who start 0-2 have about a 12 percent chance of making the playoffs. We did not want to be under the statistical eight ball this early in the year. What I saw on Sunday was a team in flux. Jimmy Garoppolo went from gunslinger in Week 1, to a timid quarterback in Week 2. He held the ball for an extensive amount of time, and despite great offensive line play, the Detroit Lions still managed six sacks. Kyle Shanahan, to me, seemed all over the place with his play calling this week as well. At times, he mailed it in, simply calling a play just to call it. I saw him reacting to offensive failures versus challenging the Lions defense which was often reeling during the contest. At other times, he pushed the envelope with over the top formations and calls, when all we really needed was a solid play the team could execute effectively. In the clips below, I’m hoping to emulate film study on Monday with the team. I intend to point out some misses both from the quarterback position and from a coordinator perspective that could be worked on this week. It’s easy for us to look at these clips and say Kyle should’ve called this, or Jimmy should’ve thrown that. Especially with the slow motion option on the coaches film. I want this to be more of a running story line for this year, because this year has just begun and the team we see now should be a lot better and more consistent in the future. Let’s see if any of the things I noticed are improved upon next week. In our first clip, it’s the 3rd quarter with about five minutes left. It’s a key 3rd down and 6. We have Trent Taylor running an out at the bottom of the screen. The area is cleared out by Dante Pettis running a deep route. From the top of the field we have Pierre Gar莽on and George Kittle in a bunch, which creates a natural pick. In looking at the tape, I feel like Gar莽on was open more, however the pass to Taylor still could have been completed. It was unsuccessful because of ball placement. The out route should’ve been thrown to the far outside, instead it was too far inside allowing the defender to break up the pass. When I saw this play in the game I immediately said if that was a better corner, it would’ve been a pick six. Jimmy never seemed to scan the rest of his options on this play. This play also foreshadows a bigger play that we will look at later. After this play, we were forced to punt, and Detroit drove down the field and brought the game to within three points. If we converted there, we flip field position, and with a few more successful plays, possibly get into field goal range and extend the lead. Instead we ended up in a dog fight. In our next clips we get the ball back and this is where most teams get into their four minute drill. We have the ball and the lead, we want to basically run as much clock as possible. Here’s were I want to challenge Kyle to push the envelope. First thing, we lined up in a big body bunch set with one wide receiver, an obvious run formation. Second, Alfred Morris entered the game, while he’s a great downhill runner, Matt Breida at this point had over 100 yards rushing and didn’t get enough carries in the 4th quarter, especially when it mattered down the stretch. In fact, We ran the exact same running play two times in a row, in the same formation same direction. Despite those obvious keys, we gained four yards on first down, and four yards again on second down. Those clips are below. However on third down, we bring in Matt Breida and run him on a pass route. Why? Even the announcer Thom Brennaman was heard saying why are we passing when we’ve been running the ball down their throats for most of the game. And so, on 3rd and 2 to gain, this happens. There’s so many things to analyze with the play above. We went from super basic line ‘em up and smash ‘em football to putting our best running back in the slot to run a route. I felt like Kyle overthought this third down. I’m not the offensive mind he is, I have zero accolades, but he comes across sometimes as arrogant with his play calls. Simply calling a dive, or a stretch run with our running back wouldn’t show off his expertise enough. He wants everyone to know how great he is. Just my opinion. Also remember the clip above, Jimmy threw the out route too far inside, and stared down his receiver. This play is no different, he stares down Breida and fails to throw the ball to the outside, except this time it ends up an interception that almost cost us the game. Shanahan did have this to say about the play after the game:Thankfully, for lack of a better term, we kept the ball on the penalty, and we go back to the same formation and plays as before with Alfred Morris. By now however Detroit knows for sure that we’re here to run Fred Warner Jersey White , because of all the previous tells. It almost seemed like Kyle got gun shy as well. Out of all of his vast offensive expertise, he goes back to the same exact plays? Are there no other running plays in the playbook? It was just overall confusing to watch for me. We run the same play once to the left once to the right with limited gain. Putting us in 3rd and a long 8. I combined those plays into one clips below. Our last clip is another situation I have questions on. I could say Kyle is using the first few games to see what works what doesn’t, maybe seeing who excels in certain formations and who does not. So it’s now 3rd and a long 8, we need to convert, we also need to run some clock to prevent Matthew Stafford from dicing up our defense again to win the game. The formation is creative, but the personnel I don’t get. Kittle is by far our best receiver, and the Lions knew this, he was often doubled limiting him to two catches on the day. He did draw several penalties which kept drives going, including the pivotal defensive holding call that saved the game.In this formation though he stay in the backfield to pass block versus being a weapon on the play. In theory I can grasp the concept, as he actually occupies three defenders. The one he’s blocking, and the two defenders that would’ve covered him if he ran a route. Here’s the problem, he gets manhandled by the defensive end and pushed into the Jimmy’s lap, and then one of the defenders guarding him smartly realizes he’s blocking and blitzes. All was not lost however, as highlighted in the video, Jimmy hit his plant foot with no pressure, Pettis was open on the drag route, and would have at least had a chance to run for the line to gain, but Jimmy doesn’t throw it. Instead he gets sacked, and we are forced to punt. As Sherman was quoted above, there’s a lot of good tape from this game. There’s several teachable moments all throughout on both sides of the ball. I’m pretty sure some of the things we saw today, the team also saw on Monday and they plan to improve upon those things in Week 3. Kansas City’s defense isn’t as tough as Detroit’s so I would hope to see a similar offensive performance. In most instances if your offense puts up 30 points, you should win.I do want to see Kyle get less “cute” in the red zone (no more sprint reverses to Pettis) and instead keep feeding the running game. The Lions were lost because the play action worked to perfection with Breida tearing up the field. I want to see Jimmy continue to settle down and get comfortable in the offense. This weeks match up will be tough, but if we can slow down the Chiefs offense (easier said than done) we could pull this one out as well. Go Niners! “This is why you play the game!,” quarterback Nick Mullens yelled as he broke down the post-game cheer in the 49ers’ locker room. It was all smiles on the home side, as San Francisco finally break through without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, 34-3. It might not have been the Thursday Night Football showdown everyone was expecting, but it turned into a 49ers’ rout of their cross-town rivals. Never did I think that Shanahan and his third-string quarterback could run circles around a healthy, Jon Gruden-led Raiders’ team, but oh boy did it happen on Thursday.Shanahan’s group came out blistering hot on an opening touchdown drive and didn’t look back the rest of the way. Let’s take a look at the pre-game keys and see how the 49ers performed on a short week.1. Take the ball out of the 49ers’ quarterbacks hands and lean heavily on the running gameI figured that un-drafted free agent Nick Mullens would struggle in his debut, especially on a short week, under the lights in an extremely complicated offense. Subsequently, that meant running backs Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert would need to shoulder the load on offense.Boy, could I have not been more wrong. Mullens finished the night 16-of-22 for 262 yards, three touchdowns and a passer rating over 150 — the maximum score is 158.3, just saying. The 49ers’ ran 32 rushing plays, compared to 22 passing attempts, but the number is slightly skewed because San Francisco led by so much at the end of the game, forcing them to run the ball more.In the pivotal moments early, Shanahan put faith in his third-string quarterback and decided to let it fly against a poor Raiders’ pass defense. The 49ers definitely didn’t follow this key closely, but managed to easily win on Thursday night.2. Limit the Raiders’ most productive pass-catchers, TE Jared Cook and RB Jalen RichardRaiders’ quarterback Derek Carr has a lot of weapons at his disposal, but prefers to throw to large target tight end Jared Cook and shifty running back Jalen Richard. The 49ers haven’t been very effective in covering these two positions, due to multiple linebacker injuries, so it was an area of concern. In the absence of linebacker Reuben Foster, linebackers Fred Warner and Malcolm Smith stepped up, making numerous plays in the passing game to limit Carr’s favorite targets. Richard led the Raiders in catches with four for 45 yards, while Cook only had two catches for 20 yards. The 49ers’ linebackers did an outstanding job in coverage, limiting the yards after the catch. This allowed them to get off the field in key third-down situations.3. Don’t give Derek Carr extra chances against the 49ers’ defenseWith a third-string signal caller in for the 49ers, I was terrified of the potential turnovers on Thursday — but Mullens did a fantastic job protecting the ball.Unlike backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, Mullens tends to release the ball sooner, preventing defenders from creating a sack or strip fumble. The former Southern Missisippi quarterback was particularly accurate too, not allowing Raiders’ defensive backs a chance at interceptions.Fumbles have been another issue for the 49ers, but it’s something they didn’t allow on Thursday. With zero turnovers on Thursday, San Francisco employed its best defense against Carr and the Raiders — keeping the 49ers’ offense on the field. With the Giants up next on the schedule, will Mullens and Co. be able to string together two wins?

One of the Buckeyes’ potential first-round picks, wide receiver Parris Campbell, reportedly came away from the event with an official invite to visit the Seattle Seahawks. In his senior season at Ohio State, Campbell was quarterback Dwayne Haskins’ favorite target, hauling in 90 receptions for 1,063 yards. His 12 touchdowns tied sophomore running back J.K. Dobbins for the most on the team. His productivity earned him 1st-team All-Big Ten honors for 2018.As noted on Alistair Corp’s Seahawks Draft Board, Campbell’s performance in the broad jump and vertical check the boxes for what the Seahawks have typically looked for in the draft. His speed is tops anyone the Seahawks have drafted at the position. The nearly 6-foot, 205-pound Campbell ran a 4.31 40-yard dash, third-fastest at the combine this year and faster than the 4.37 recorded by former Seattle speedster Ricardo Lockette, an undrafted free agent in 2011.Not only does Campbell have speed, but he has lateral quickness, too.Unfortunately, Campbell wasn’t able to finish Wednesday’s event after slipping at one point during the workout. Land-Grant Holy Land, SB Nation’s Ohio State community, has a full scouting report on Campbell. For those who are into the smokescreen aspect that teams may engage in during draft season, Doug Baldwin took time on Twitter after the Pro Day to hype up Campbell’s teammate Terry McLaurin and retweeted a play that showcased McLaurin’s blocking skills on a pass to Campbell.McLaurin caught just 35 passes in 2018, but 11 were for touchdowns. His average of 20 yards per reception topped all players the Buckeyes. His 10-foot-5 broad jump, 37.5-inch vertical and 4.35 40 time aren’t far off from Campbell’s measurables.Baldwin retweeted his agent, Buddy Baker, who says that a team told McLaurin “to make sure his phone is on during Day One of the NFL Draft.” Baker is also McLaurin’s agent.Expect to hear more reports of players visiting Seattle leading up to the draft. Each team is allowed to have a maximum of 30 players who travel in from outside the team’s “metropolitan area” to conduct interviews and physical examinations. The Seattle Seahawks finished the 2018 NFL regular season with a mark of 10-6 and a wild card berth, with a playoff game at the Dallas Cowboys coming up this Saturday night. As promised, I’ve given Arizona Cardinals fans a break from Enemy Reaction because, well, they aren’t a large fanbase and a 3-13 year tends to make doing these screenshots a little bit difficult. I’d think so. I had them at 8-8 before Week 1, which would’ve only put them a game out of a wild card spot this year. For the “experts” who predicted doom and gloom and a bad season for Seattle, and then stuck with it even through the slow start to the regular season? 8. Davenport away Wesley Woodyard Jersey , almost as far as they could have. With yesterday’s conference championship games in the books, most of the 2019 NFL Draft order is now known. The Chiefs will pick 29th overall after losing to the Patriots, and the Packers own the 30th spot, after last year’s trade with the Saints (who fell to the Rams last night). The Saints gave up the pick in the move up to get Davenport this year. The pass-rushing project from Texas-San Antonio had 4.5 sacks (with only 0.5 of them coming after Halloween) and a forced fumble this season, and they’re obviously going to need more from him in the future to justify the pick. He had four total tackles in the postseason, including one for a loss and a quarterback hit.The Packers also pick 12th overall for their own work this year. The loser of the Super Bowl will slide into the 31st spot, and the winner will own the last pick in the first round. Here’s a look at the draft order as it stands after the conference championship games:1. Cardinals 3-132. 49ers 4-123. Jets 4-124. Raiders 4-125. Buccaneers 5-116. Giants 5-117. Jaguars 5-118. Lions 6-109. Bills 6-1010. Broncos 6-1011. Bengals 6-1012. Packers 6-9-113. Dolphins 7-914. Eagles 9-726. Colts 10-627. Raiders (via Cowboys 10-6)28. Chargers 12-429. Chiefs 12-430. Packers (via Saints 13-3) The young linebacker from Temple is starting to look like a long term piece to the Titans defensive puzzle."We, here at Derrick Henry Miracles, would like to take a brief break from gushing over the greatest running back performance in NFL history to talk about another young Titan on the rise, Sharif Finch. We will be back to your regularly scheduled Derrick Henry programming shortly. When Titans training camp opened for the 2018 season, it wasn’t hard to notice Sharif Finch. Even among Tennessee’s other outside linebackers Finch physically stood out as the tallest and longest guy in the group. However, he really got my attention when he unleashed a string of six distinct pass rush moves on former Titan Byron Bell in a single drive during the preseason. Finch would make the team’s 53-man roster a couple weeks later.Fourteen weeks later, Finch is still making plays. On Thursday night it was a strip sack of Jaguars quarterback Cody Kessler that he also recovered to create the only turnover of the night for the Titans defense. Watch No. 56 come screaming off the edge here and then have the presence of mind to rip the ball out on the way down.NFL Game PassJust a few days before that, he was making a big tackle for loss on a screen pass. NFL Game PassA few weeks before that it was one of the best individual effort defensive plays I’ve seen all season as he beats Jack Doyle’s block and then somehow forces the fumble while diving over him to make the tackle. NFL Game PassJust weeks before that he’s bullying Patriots blockers and smashing Sony Michel in the backfield.NFL Game PassAnd finally, just a few weeks before that he’s getting his first career sack against Carson Wentz.NFL Game PassFinch has only played 164 snaps on defense over the course of the season. That ranks him 17th among Titans defenders. For some context, the top guys — players that never leave the field like Kevin Byard and Logan Ryan — are approaching 900 snaps and Brian Orakpo, the leader at outside linebacker Rodger Saffold Jersey , has close to 600.I point that out because Finch’s production far outstrips his opportunity so far. He’s 13th on the team in tackles with 23, tied for 5th on the team in tackles for loss with 3, tied for 8th on the team in sacks with 1.5, and tied for 1st on the team in forced fumbles with 2. However, if you look at those stats on a per snap basis, he’s 2nd on the team in tackles, 2nd in tackles for loss, 4th in sacks, and 1st in forced fumbles. That’s a lot of bang for your buck when you have 56 in the game.Pro Football Focus currently rates Finch as the Titans highest graded player on both defense and special teams with a 88.2 score on defense and a 84.5 on special teams. He hasn’t played enough snaps to qualify for their positional rankings, but if he did, he would currently stand as the NFL’s 10th best edge defender, slotting in between DeMarcus Lawrence and Jerry Hughes. That’s pretty elite company for an undrafted rookie.Small sample size disclaimers apply here of course, but it’s hard not to look at Finch’s impact as an undrafted rookie playing limited snaps and be excited for his future in Tennessee. He’s slowly climbing the depth chart at outside linebacker for the Titans, now ranking 4th in the pecking order behind veterans Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan in addition to fellow rookie Harold Landry. If he keeps playing like he did against Jacksonville on Thursday night, it’s going to become increasingly difficult to keep him off the field.

If AAF co-founder Bill Polian has his way, it certainly seems possible.Talking with USA Today recently, Polian commented about the possibility of the two leagues partnering in some fashion, saying,While those words alone may not seem all that impactful, the fact the two leagues are talking, and that talks are ‘ramping up’ is big by itself.Right now, the idea seems to be centered around players who don’t take a whole lot of physical abuse in the regular season. Guys like third-string quarterbacks and practice squad players.Of course, one player specifically comes to mind when thinking of how this ties to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it’s quarterback Ryan Griffin.Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY SportsThe Bucs are entering a season where they’re in search of a back-up quarterback for Jameis Winston and prefer a veteran who won’t immediately cause conflict in the locker room about who the starter should be. Griffin has been in the league for six seasons, so he meets the veteran status in that light, but he’s yet to take a single regular season snap. Turning 30-years old, teams have no indication of what Griffin might do were he to be thrust into regular season play suddenly following the injury to a starting quarterback. While the AAF is not the NFL, having seen Griffin play two or three or six seasons as a starting AAF quarterback would let teams see what he might bring to the table. So Womens Chris Godwin Jersey , for guys like Griffin this system would work beautifully.Of course, we’ve yet to hear what active coaches think, as well as owners, players and the NFLPA. My initial thought turns to the fact the AAF season is 60% as long as the NFL season. So in my mind, players who took fewer than 30% of their teams snaps would be eligible while players who took more than 30% would be exempt. This would be one step towards protecting players from compounding physical damage by making them play significant snaps in both the NFL and AAF. Of course, follow on criteria could and likely would be applied. In the meantime, Polian isn’t promising anything, saying,But Polian’s new league is off to a promising start, and if anyone knows how to navigate the NFL waters among the owners and executives it’s Polian. So the fact there are even talks at all is encouraging when looking towards the future. When the Buccaneers spent the 38th overall pick in the draft on running back Ronald Jones, they thought he could make an instant impact on their offense. It hasn’t worked out that way.Jones is inactive for tonight’s game against the Steelers, just as he was inactive for the first two games of the season. Jones isn’t on the injury report, he’s just inactive because the Buccaneers don’t think he’s ready to contribute.Given how bad Jones looked in the preseason, they’re probably right. In four preseason games Chris Godwin Jersey White , Jones had a shockingly bad stat line of 28 carries for 22 yards. He was awful.Jones ran for 1,550 yards at USC last season, so it’s hard to believe he has no talent at all. Seattle SeahawksSay it with me: “BUT SEATTLE CAN’T LOSE AT HOME!” That’s exactly what happened as they got throttled for three quarters against the San Diego Chargers. But then the Seahawks channeled their inner Seahawk and made a game out of it into the final minutes. The loss puts the Seahawks at .500 and second in the division. 49ers fans should feel good, they were mighty competitive against this Chargers team on their game, until things fell apart (like 49ers games do) at the end. Into Week 10The Seahawks travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams in their second divisional matchup of the year. The Rams managed to beat the Seahawks in Seattle 33-31 in their first game, so this one should be rather interested and maybe one-sided for the Rams. Clark, whose rookie deal expired following the 2018 season, is currently set to play 2019 under the franchise tag, however he reportedly has no plans to do so. As recently as last week, Clark’s name has come up in trade rumors, and it has become increasingly apparent a trade is something the Seahawks are open to. On the most recent episode of The Draft Analyst Podcast with Tony Pauline, we learned more specifics about a potential trade for Clark—including a team that was interested, and could be again. Here’s what Pauline had to say:Pauline, who previously reported New York’s desire to trade down in the first round, went on to say the Jets could circle back on Clark: If the draft comes and goes and Clark is still on the roster Womens Justin Britt Jersey , a trade becomes far less likely, with Seattle unlikely to deal one of their best players without the chance to replace him for 2019. But, until Clark signs his tag or an extension with Seattle, his name will continue to show up in rumors. Mike McCarthy knows his job is on the line. The Green Bay Packers' 13th-year head coach acknowledged he is aware that the team's 4-5-1 record has led to questions about his future. But he insisted he and the team are focused on next week's pivotal NFC North matchup with the Vikings in Minnesota, and not the uncertainty surrounding his job security."That's the job. That's the way this business has gone," McCarthy said Friday. "We set a standard here the past 12 years, and it's our responsibility to play to that standard. That's the way we approach it."The 27-24 loss in Seattle on Thursday left the Packers 0-5 on the road and third in the division behind the Chicago Bears (6-3) and the Vikings (5-3-1). A seemingly softer portion of the schedule follows next week's showdown with Minnesota, but a loss in that game could put the Packers in a hole too deep to climb out of.McCarthy has had teams rally late in seasons past, including in 2016, when quarterback Aaron Rodgers famously said the team could "run the table" over the final six weeks. After starting 4-6, the Packers won eight straight games to win the NFC North and advance to conference title game, in which they fell to the Atlanta Falcons. That was Green Bay's fourth NFC championship game under McCarthy, who led the 2010 team to the Super Bowl title. His Packers made the playoffs in eight consecutive seasons before missing the postseason last year http://www.seahawkslockerroom.com/authentic-david-moore-jersey , when Rodgers missed nine-plus games with a broken right collarbone."I have great confidence. I've been in this position before, so I have confidence in how we do things," McCarthy said. "You have to react 鈥?there's no doubt about that 鈥?but you can't overreact. So, you've just got to stay in tune with the specifics and the details of why we're not getting it done in those situations."The Packers have lost three of their last four games, despite being in position in the fourth quarter to win on the road against the Rams, Patriots and Seahawks."We're not going to turn on each other or nothing. We love each other and we stick together as a team," defensive back Tramon Williams said. "Is it frustrating? Yes, it's very frustrating to come out on these types of losses when you know you should be winning these games."Against the Seahawks, the Packers had a 21-20 lead with 9 minutes left and were facing third-and-5 at Seattle's 12-yard line when Rodgers was sacked, forcing them to settle for a field goal to make it 24-20.Seattle responded with a 75-yard touchdown drive. When Rodgers missed an easy third-down throw on the ensuing possession, McCarthy opted to punt on fourth-and-2 with 4:20 to go. Green Bay never got the ball back."It's tough losing on the road. It's tough losing by one possession. Obviously, I'm frustrated, not just by the last throw but some other stuff that we could've done better out there Richard Sherman Jersey Green ," Rodgers said. "This is an important, obviously, six-game stretch left. I still believe we have a lot to play for."McCarthy said Friday that he still felt it was a "solid decision" to punt in that situation, and that his decision not to challenge a 34-yard Russell Wilson-to-Tyler Lockett completion that set up the go-ahead touchdown was based on not having a clear replay to look at in the coaches' booth. But he acknowledged both calls were open to second-guessing."Frankly, those are the kind of decisions that keep all of us up," McCarthy said. "Now that I'm standing here and I know what the result is of them running out the clock, you go, 'Oh, yeah, I wish I would've went for it on fourth-and-2.'""My first reaction was to go for it," he added. "But we talked it over game management-wise and that's the decision I made."

It’s usually tight series and one-goal games. We’re excited about this one.”It’s hard not to get the ”Groundhog Day” feeling about these teams meeting for the fourth time in the past 10 years. The Penguins won the previous three series despite not having home-ice advantage, twice winning Game 7 in Washington on the way to capturing the Stanley Cup.But this year is different in many ways, most notably on the Pittsburgh injury front. Malkin and winger Carl Hagelin will miss Game 1 on Thursday night in Washington. Coach Mike Sullivan said Malkin will travel, making him a possibility to play in Game 2 this weekend after missing the end of the Philadelphia series with an apparent lower-body injury.”I think guys have to step up in different roles maybe,” Crosby said. ”I don’t think anybody has to put too much pressure on themselves. Collectively we can find ways and those are guys who aren’t easy to replace, but that’s what we’re faced with.”A year after the last series between these two division rivals, gone from the Penguins are forwards Nick Bonino, Chris Kunitz and Matt Cullen, defensemen Trevor Daley, Ian Cole and Ron Hainsey and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Gone from the Capitals are forwards Justin Williams, Marcus Johansson and Daniel Winnik and defensemen Nate Schmidt, Karl Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk.”They have different personnel, we have different personnel,” said Penguins defenseman Kris Letang, who’s back after missing the 2017 playoffs because of neck surgery. ”The series is going to play out differently. The game is going to be won differently. You don’t know how it is going to go.”Pittsburgh, trying for a rare championship threepeat, has won nine of 10 all-time series against Washington Tim Heed Jersey , many of which predate current players and coaches. But Capitals coach Barry Trotz said it’s ”fitting” his team must again go through its nemesis to advance.Asked why this year the outcome will be different, Ovechkin said: ”I don’t know. One day, it have to happen. If we want to get success, we have to beat Pittsburgh and move forward.”SID VS. OVICrosby has won 44 of the 70 previous games against Ovechkin in the NHL regular season and playoffs, world junior championships, world championships, World Cup and Olympics. There may not be another dueling hat tricks game like the one in the 2009 playoffs, but Crosby and Ovechkin are red hot going into their latest showdown. Crosby is tied at 13 points with linemate Jake Guentzel for the scoring lead in the playoffs, and Ovechkin’s five power-play goals helped Washington beat Columbus in six.”This year I think he’s playing his best, but it’s good to see,” Backstrom said of Ovechkin. ”Hopefully everyone can raise our level here in the second round.”POWER PLAYERSThe Penguins relied heavily on their top-ranked power play unit to land a 12th straight playoff berth – the longest active streak in the NHL – but their title bid will rely heavily on a penalty kill that’s been uneven at best. Pittsburgh was a middling 17th during the regular season (80 percent) but killed 90.5 percent of Philadelphia’s power plays in the opening round. Washington scored just once with the man advantage in four regular season meetings with the Penguins, who kept Ovechkin in check.”You have to reduce his time,” Letang said. ”You don’t want him to have all kinds of time to really use that puck.”MURRAY’S METTLEPenguins goaltender Matt Murray won the Cup twice as a ”rookie” by NHL standards after backstopping the Penguins to titles in 2016 and 2017. He missed all of Pittsburgh’s playoff series against Washington, however, while recovering from a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old has been up and down against Washington in his brief career and is coming off a Philadelphia series in which he flip-flopped between great (two shutouts) and not-so great (allowing four-or-more goals twice). Still, Murray has never lost a playoff series he’s played in, and even after giving up four quick goals in the first 21 minutes of Game 6 against Philadelphia, he limited the Flyers to just one the rest of the way to give his teammates time to rally.HOLTBY DIALED INCapitals goaltender Braden Holtby allowed six goals on 35 shots through the first two games of the Penguins series last year before getting his game back together. He has only allowed 10 on 137 shots in four-plus games since replacing Philipp Grubauer this time around and looks like a goalie who can match Murray save for save.—AP Sports Writer Will Graves in Pittsburgh contributed.— BUFFALO, N.Y. 17. Alex Ovechkin is built like a linebacker with the motor of a steam engine and the mentality of a wrecking ball.He can score like no other player of this generation and few in history and has the physicality to match. That was evident from his first NHL shift when he powered up ice and crushed Columbus defenseman Radoslav Suchy so hard it knocked out the stanchion between the panes of plexiglass.Ovechkin at 32 is no longer the human bulldozer he once was Womens Samuel Girard Jersey , but his hard-hitting style never put a dent in his prime years as he became the fourth-fastest player to 600 goals . On Sunday in Pittsburgh, the Washington Capitals‘ 2004 No. 1 pick will be the first player from that draft class to play 1,000 NHL regular-season games, a testament to his durability that is also difficult to duplicate in modern hockey.”That he has reached 1,000 games this quickly is an amazing accomplishment with the way he plays,” Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said. ”These are big men, and the league has gotten faster but it’s also gotten much more fit, and that Alex has been able to span those generations and continue to play and be incredibly productive is really a historic feat.”In 13 seasons, Ovechkin has missed more than four games only once and never missed more than 10. Take out the eight games for suspensions and the Russian winger has only sat out for injury 21 times out of a possible 1,028.”I heard a couple years ago that he said he’s the Russian Machine,” longtime teammate Nicklas Backstrom said. ”That probably has something to do with it.”Ovechkin brushed off an injury in his second season with the now-famous line, ”Russian machine never breaks.” Ovechkin has played through knee and back pain and finished one playoff series on a fractured foot Semyon Varlamov Jersey , illustrating his pain tolerance while also avoiding the kinds of serious injuries that derail other players’ careers.Goaltender Braden Holtby pointed out that it helps Ovechkin to not kill penalties and risk injuries in those situations while also marveling at how the Moscow native is built. His 6-foot-3, 235-pound frame gives him the tools to punish opponents with his body as much as his shot.”When you’re big guy like Ovi, you’re not gonna be afraid to hit no one,” Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov said. ”And when people gonna hit you, they’re gonna feel it, for sure.”When Barry Trotz coached in Nashville, he remembered players seeing Ovechkin down the hallway cutting his stick and whispering about how big he was. Ovechkin had that intimidating presence to him.”Trust me, we had a lot of nervous defensemen,” Trotz said. ”We had a couple of nervous cats.”Watching Ovechkin’s sometimes reckless play could have at one point made the Capitals nervous, too, because of how valuable he is and how important it is he stay healthy. In recent years, he has toned it down with age and as hockey has gotten faster with lower priorities on hitting.”As soon as you get a little older Sergei Boikov Jersey , you realize when you have to get a hit and when you have to take a hit,” Ovechkin said. ”You can see right now in the playoffs it’s different hockey. Of course, every shift you try to do something out there, but in the regular year you don’t have to run around and hit everybody because if a game is 5-2 or 4-1 you don’t have to do it. Obviously you have to play smarter and try to do different things.”Evolving his game as a scorer and a power forward has helped Ovechkin get to this point where he’s on the verge of leading the league in goals for the seventh time and reach 50 for the eighth time.If Ovechkin, who still has Stanley Cup aspirations and three years left on his contract, maintains this level of durability and wants to keep playing in North America toward age 40, reaching 1,500 games isn’t out of the question.”There are a lot of players that have played 1,000 games but not as many players have scored 600 goals,” Leonsis said. ”If he takes cares of himself – which he has been, he looks great – he can play a lot of years in the league.”— CHICAGO (AP) — Patrick Kane is heating up, and so are the Chicago Blackhawks.Kane had a hat trick Youth Jake McCabe Jersey , Brandon Saad scored twice and Chicago beat the Minnesota Wild 5-2 on Thursday night for its fourth victory in five games.Kane completed his fifth career regular-season hat trick and first since March 2017 by scoring into an empty net with 26.9 seconds left. He leads the Blackhawks with 20 goals and 47 points, and has five goals and five assists during a six-game point streak.“It’s always nice to produce,” Kane said. “It was fun with both (Saad) and me on the ice at the same time.“We were trying to play hockey and make the right play, and hopefully one of us finished it off.”Collin Delia made 46 saves, and Jonathan Toews, Erik Gustafsson and Dylan Strome each had two assists for Chicago, tied for last place with St. Louis in the Central Division.Delia was sharp in his second start since being called up to fill the roster spot of No. 1 goalie Corey Crawford, who suffered a concussion on Dec. 16 against San Jose.Minnesota outshot Chicago 48-20 and the 24-year-old Delia, who appeared in just his fourth NHL game, drew as much postgame praise as Kane.“Shots were a little bit misleading, I think, but they had their chances Jason Pominville Jersey Kids ,” Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. “We got the lead but they really pushed.“We had a little trouble getting out of the D-zone, but Delia was excellent. And we had some guys make some plays.”Zach Parise and Eric Staal scored for the Wild, who dropped their season-worst fifth straight (0-4-1).“Our margin for error isn’t very high right now,” Staal said. “We’re not scoring enough to make some of the mistakes we’re making.”Minnesota starter Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on 10 shots before being replaced by Alex Stalock early in the second period. Stalock blocked eight of nine shots.“We have a lot of Grade-A chances and we’re not putting them in and we’re not getting the save when we need to get the save,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “It’s not a good combination.”Chicago went 2 for 4 on the power play, scoring more than one goal with the man advantage for the first time this season.Kane opened the scoring 4:02 into the first. Although he was covered by Parise in the left circle, Kane batted in Gustafsson’s cross-ice feed before Dubnyk could slide across the crease.Parise tied it on a rebound with five minutes left in the first period, two seconds after a penalty to Chicago’s Brendan Perlini expired. Minnesota tested Delia with a flurry of tough chances during the power play. As the man advantage lapsed, Delia stopped Staal’s backhand stuff attempt, but Parise slid in a loose puck.Saad put Chicago back in front 23 seconds into the second period on a shot from the slot. Toews’ pass from behind the net bounced off Jason Zucker’s stick and deflected to Saad, who ended a six-game goal drought.Kane’s second goal, a power-play score off a faceoff 3½ minutes later Womens Johan Larsson Jersey , made it 3-1. Toews pulled the draw to Gustafsson at the left point, and he fed Kane in the right circle for a one-timer over Dubnyk’s glove. That prompted Boudreau to replace Dubnyk with Stalock.“I hate pulling goalies,” Boudreau said. “I just didn’t think he was seeing the puck well.”Delia was sharp the rest of the way as the Blackhawks reverted to a close checking game and limited rebounds and mistakes.Saad’s second goal, a power-play score at 12:17 of the third, gave Chicago some insurance. After Stalock misplayed a loose puck, Alex DeBrincat intercepted it and fed Saad, who scored from the slot.Boudreau pulled Stalock for an extra attacker with 3:42 left, and Staal scored on a rebound from a pileup with 50.3 seconds remaining to cut it to 4-2.Kane completed his hat trick into an empty net on a shot from center ice.NOTES: Parise was hit under the left eye by the stick of Chicago’s Duncan Keith early in the second period. Gerard Gallant for months talked about his team’s hard work Carl Soderberg Jersey , ability to battle and their devotion to playing a full ”200 feet of hockey.”In pockets of Game 2 in the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night, the Golden Knights were surprisingly outworked, outbattled and outhustled in losing 3-2 to the Washington Capitals. Game 3 is Saturday night in Washington and Vegas is going to need to up the energy level even further in a frantic series with scoring chances galore.Vegas outshot the Capitals 39-26, but the hustle stats in Game 2 went to Washington, which handed the expansion club just its second home loss of the postseason. Washington had 18 blocked shots to eight for Vegas, helping goaltender Braden Holtby turn things around. He allowed five goals in the opener but was sublime in Game 2 as he made 37 saves – none bigger than stopping Alex Tuch with the paddle of his stick in a sprawling move with just 1:59 left.Washington also showed its mettle on the penalty kill, limiting the Golden Knights to a single goal in four attempts – including a 5-on-3 on the third period.”You’ve got to try and capitalize on those,” Vegas defenseman Luca Sbisa said. ”It’s just one of those games, even at the end, with Tuchy having that chance. And 5:38 into the second period, with the game tied at 1-all and the Capitals on a power play, Ovechkin scored his first career Stanley Cup Final goal to give the Capitals the lead.”I think they got energy from that, I think they were pissed off, that’s how sports go,” Vegas forward Erik Haula said. ”You see one of your best players go down and you’re pissed off, that’s part of it. It’s no excuse for us. Bottom line is we were right in that game I think, it was right there for us to grab, we just came short.”Vegas unraveled and gave up more uncharacteristic chances in front of Marc-Andre Fleury, who has yet to lose consecutive games this postseason. The Golden Knights also had 12 turnovers compared to Washington’s four.”We shot ourselves in the foot a few times with some turnovers http://www.officialavalanche.com/authentic-adidas-j.t.-compher-jersey ,” Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt said. ”At the end of the day you really have got to see where your game is at. If you look at it as a whole, we played really well for parts of the first period and we got caught up in the transition game in the second period – and that’s not the game we want to play.”Instead, Washington fed off the momentum and dictated the tempo, and a little less than four minutes after Ovechkin scored, Brooks Orpik broke a 220-game goal drought with the eventual game winner. It was his first goal since Feb. 26, 2016.”I haven’t yelled that loud for someone to score a goal since Ovi scored one of his milestones,” Washington forward T.J. Oshie said.Though the Golden Knights outshot Washington 15-6 in the third period, the Capitals skated faster, competed better, worked harder and played smarter to steal home-ice advantage with their first-ever Final win. The Capitals return to Capital One Arena, where they have just a 4-5 record in the postseason. Vegas is 6-2 on the road in the playoffs.—More Stanley Cup coverage: https://apnews.com/tag/StanleyCupFinals PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jack Johnson has spent nearly half his life tangling with Evgeni Malkin in front of the net in rinks all over the world. Bruising affairs that often left one or the other — and occasionally both — skating away in aggravation. The truce finally came this summer when Johnson joined Malkin and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins after signing a five-year, $16.25 million deal. The move allowed Johnson to breathe a sigh of relief on many levels, not the least of which was the knowledge the 31-year-old defenseman wouldn’t have to crash into Malkin multiple times a year. When Johnson approached Malkin as training camp began Youth Matt Nieto Jersey , he discovered the feeling was mutual.“We gave each other a half hug and said ‘Alright, no more fighting, now we finally get to play with each other,'” Johnson said with a laugh on Wednesday as the Penguins prepared for their opener against Stanley Cup champion Washington on Thursday. “I said ‘Don’t worry, I’ll just pass you the puck.'”Don’t get Johnson wrong. He understands his job responsibilities extend far beyond finding a teammate on Pittsburgh’s star-laden roster streaking up the ice. The Penguins allowed the most goals of any playoff team last season, and their bid to win a third consecutive title ended in the second round of the playoffs against the Capitals.Johnson is well aware his top priority is to shore things up in front of the Pittsburgh goal before jumping in on the fun at the other end of the ice. He also is intent on not merely being a tag along for longtime friend Sidney Crosby — a former classmate at Shattuck-St. Mary’s boarding school in Minnesota — and company as the Penguins pursue their fourth Cup in a decade.“I want to be a contributor, I definitely don’t want to be a passenger,” Johnson said. “That’s definitely the biggest thing that’s in my head. I want to help these guys win another one.”The Penguins believe Johnson can do it in multiple ways. Though he has never been labeled a “defensive” defenseman, at 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds, he’s capable of clearing goaltender Matt Murray’s line of vision. Yet that’s not all he can do. While he’s never scored more than 42 points in a season or been named to the All-Star team during his 11-year career, he’s developed a reputation as a pro’s pro who can play all 200 feet.“I think he’s a pretty complete player,” Penguins star defenseman Kris Letang said. “He’s got good speed, good size and he doesn’t get enough credit for his skill. He’s really skilled guy. He sees the ice really well.”The beauty of Johnson’s new gig is that he might not have to. Given the talent in front of him Mikko Rantanen Jersey , he know there’s going to be plenty of chances to pick up a cheap assist by flipping the puck 20 feet to Crosby, Malkin or some other guy in black and gold and let them do the rest of the work.“That’s one of the exciting things and fun things about playing with guys of this caliber,” Johnson said. “I’m sure there’ll be a point here or there I may get where I pretty much had nothing to do with play.”Johnson’s optimism plays in stark contrast to the end of his seven-year run in Columbus, when he asked for a trade in January then watched from the press box as a healthy scratch as the Blue Jackets lost to Washington in the opening round of the playoffs. That’s all behind him now. And there are worse places than Pittsburgh to kick start your career. The proof is a few stalls down in the Penguins dressing room. Justin Schultz arrived in Pittsburgh in 2016 after three-plus underwhelming seasons in Edmonton and played a vital role on consecutive Cup winners. Jamie Oleksiak flourished after the Stars sent him to the Penguins last December.“It’s a great place to play,” defenseman Brian Dumoulin said. “Obviously playing in the playoffs and winning helps so I think guys get some confidence coming here and it gets their game back on track.”Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan doesn’t expect Johnson’s transition to be seamless but also knows there’s no rush. The Penguins believe they have solid depth at the blue line. Johnson isn’t being called upon to be some sort of savior or give his game some sort of radical makeover to fit in.“I don’t think they’re trying to reinvent me in any way,” Johnson said. “They just ask me to be myself, come here and do what I do best.”He’s well aware the length of his contract raised some eyebrows. But he’s all in. His family bought a house not too far from the team’s training facility. He happily joined Crosby and others in some of the formally informal skates before training camp officially started. After more than a half decade clashing with Crosby, Malkin and company, he prefers his current view.“Pittsburgh was tough to play against, they have the championships to prove it,” he said. It’s nice to play with these guys instead of against him.”
  21. Through the early part of the season Andrew Hammond Jersey Womens , have had a hard time holding leads and closing out opponents. After a disappointing road trip, San Jose looks to reverse those trends on Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sharks are back at SAP Center after dropping three of five, capped by a 3-2 setback to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday. In three losses, San Jose (2-3-1) either let leads slip away or failed to capitalize before a contest was out of reach.Article continues below ...“We’re not scoring enough and not getting enough saves; it’s a bad combination,” coach Peter DeBoer said after the game in New Jersey. The Sharks surrendered three third-period goals in a 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders on Oct. 8. Three nights later, San Jose yielded the tying goal in the third before falling in overtime to the New York Rangers. DeBoer’s club then gave up two goals in the final 20 minutes of the loss to the Devils. In the opening game of the trip on Oct. 5, the Sharks wasted an early two-goal lead before beating the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime. But San Jose’s struggles go beyond end results. One facet of the club’s special teams unit is struggling while another is flourishing. The Sharks are 2 for 21 with the man advantage, but also has three short-handed goals this season. The club registered eight such tallies in 2017-18.“We have to find a way to get another goal a night, and part of that is power play and part of that is 5-on-5,” said DeBoer. “We have to find a way to get another save a night. Part of that is defending a little tighter and part of that is getting another save.” One player off to a solid start is San Jose winger Evander Kane, and he’s scheduled to face the team that traded him away last winter for the first time.Selected fourth overall in the 2009 NHL Draft, Kane never lived up to high expectations in nine-plus seasons with three clubs before being dealt to the Sharks in February. But Kane provided an immediate boost for San Jose. In 17 games, he collected nine goals — including a career-high four against the Calgary Flames on March 16. In his first playoff action, the 27-year-old notched four goals in nine contests, but the Sharks lost in the second round to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in six games.Kane, who signed a seven-year contract extension in May J.T. Brown Jersey Womens , leads the Sharks with four goals and is tied with Kevin Labanc for the team lead with five points.Buffalo has split the first two games of a five-game swing after falling 4-1 to Vegas on Tuesday. Vladimir Sobotka scored in the final minute to help the Sabres avoid being blanked for the second time this season.“We’ve got to make sure our execution has to be ready when the puck drops,” coach Phil Housley told the Buffalo News. “Not 10 minutes into the game or at the end of the first period.”Even with the loss, Buffalo is 6-1-1 in its last eight road games against Pacific Division foes. However, the Sharks swept both meetings in 2017-18 and are looking for their fourth straight win in the series.Sobotka, who is playing with his first Eastern Conference team after nine seasons with the St. Louis Blues, has eight points in his last eight matchups versus the Sharks. The native of the Czech Republic registered the only hat trick of his NHL career on March 9, 2013, in San Jose. While Carter Hutton has struggled with nine goals allowed in his last two games, the Sabres’ new starting netminder could be poised for a bounce-back game. Hutton is 4-1-1 with a 1.32 goals-against average and .955 save percentage in his career against San Jose.Linus Ullmark, who earned his first NHL shutout last Saturday by making 36 saves in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes, has never faced the Sharks. GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Coyotes‘ homestand couldn’t be any better. The Philadelphia Flyers‘ road trip could get a whole lot better Monday night. The surprising Coyotes take their first five-game winning streak since the 2011-12 season — coincidentally, the last time they made the playoffs — into their interconference game against the Flyers at Gila River Arena.Arizona (7-5-0) has won six of seven since being shut out three times while starting 1-4. The Coyotes will be trying for their first six-game winning streak since that 2011-12 season, when they had three winning streaks of five games or longer, and looking to close out a 5-0 homestand.Article continues below ...Before that string of home games began, coach Rick Tocchet stressed the importance of establishing a home ice advantage — and Tomas Plekanec Jersey Womens , perhaps, doing away with any lingering memories from an 0-10-1 start a season ago.But even Tocchet probably didn’t envision the Coyotes outscoring their opponents 24-7 during the first four games, or getting at least one short-handed goal in every game. They have six short-handed goals during the homestand, the longest such streak in franchise history, and an NHL-leading seven altogether.“I like the fact that we’re a hard-working team. For the most part, I’ve got to tell you, we’ve worked really hard,” Tocchet said. “We’ve defended well and we’re getting really good goaltending. Our identity for me is a team that defends well and can transition well.”The Flyers (6-7-1) can’t say the same thing. Their penalty kill is a problem, allowing at least one power-play goal in seven consecutive games. They have allowed a league-high 16 power-play goals, while Arizona has given up a league-low three power-play goals. The Coyotes have more short-handed goals (7) than they do power-play goals allowed.Despite their penalty-killing issues, the Flyers opened their four-game western road trip by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 and the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 before losing 4-3 in overtime to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. One concern is starting goaltender Brian Elliott’s status. Backup Cal Pickard played Saturday, and Elliott was expected to play Monday night until leaving practice early Sunday following a collision with Travis Konecny.Earlier in the trip, backup goalie Michal Neuvirth returned to Philadelphia with a lower-body injury, and he isn’t expected to be available until next weekend at least.Despite the injuries, the Flyers could return home with five of a possible six points on the trip if they can win Monday. General manager Ron Hextall said the road trip will be viewed by the result of the Arizona game.Win, and it’s a great trip. Lose Tomas Tatar Jersey Womens , and it’s an OK one.“I think our commitment to defense, our cleanliness has been better,” Hextall told reporters Sunday. “It really comes down to an attitude. When players are dialed in, players are playing hard, playing the right way, all the analytics, all the numbers, your feel for the game is good. That’s what it’s about.”One set of numbers jumps out: The Flyers goaltenders are third from the bottom in the league with a 3.86 goals-against average; the Coyotes lead the league with a 2.00 average. Antti Raanta has started all but two Coyotes games, which Darcy Kuemper played, and Raanta (2.10 goals-against average) is expected to start Monday.Raanta made a career-high 48 saves as the Coyotes withstood 51 shots by Carolina, and squandering a three-goal lead, by defeating the Hurricanes 4-3 Friday on Michael Grabner’s overtime goal.“Last year around December until now, he (Raanta) has just been terrific,” Tocchet said. “He’s a leader. You could put a ‘C’ on his chest, he’s that type of guy. … He’s done whatever it takes to be that guy and he wants to be that guy. He gives us a chance every night.”The Coyotes ended their season-opening 11-game losing streak last season by winning at Philadelphia 4-3 on Oct. 30. The Flyers then won in overtime at Arizona 4-3 on Feb. 10.
