  1. Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans could not have started much uglier. They sure showed they can finish.Mariota threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis with 36 seconds left Adoree' Jackson Jersey White , and the Tennessee Titans rallied from a 16-point deficit and beat the New York Jets 26-22 on Sunday. The Titans (6-6) snapped a two-game skid to keep themselves on the fringes of the AFC playoff chase. Mariota, who had an interception returned for a touchdown in the first quarter, notched the 12th game-winning drive of his career and eighth since the start of the 2017 season."Marcus isn't going to be the guy giving pep talks," Titans coach Mike Vrabel said of his quarterback. "He's very calm, cool, collected. He takes control of the huddle, and you can see him in the most critical situations he's at his best. And so that's great to see."The Jets (3-9) had one last chance to snap their own losing streak, but Malcolm Butler intercepted Josh McCown's pass with 21 seconds left to seal Tennessee's victory and the Jets' collapse. New York now has lost six straight with this latest loss leaving Jets coach Todd Bowles "fuming.""Dumb mistakes at dumb times cost us ballgames, and that's why we're in the position we're in," Bowles said.Mariota looked nothing like the quarterback who turned in the second-best single-game performance in NFL history last week completing 95.7 percent of his passes in a loss at Houston. Home fans booed early and often as Jets cornerback Trumaine Johnson got only his second interception this season and ran it back 31 yards for an early TD and a 10-0 lead.It was the Jets' first takeaway after the franchise tied a league record for futility for not forcing a turnover in five straight games. The Jets also sacked Mariota three times.Mariota threw for 220 of his 282 yards in the second half. He also led the Titans with 43 yards rushing, including a 25-yard scramble on the game-winning drive where he recovered his own fumble at the end."Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and I got lucky," Mariota said.A facemask penalty on Johnson during the play added to the end, and Mariota hit Anthony Firkser for 25 yards. Three plays later, he found Davis who ran in for the TD and the Titans' first lead of the game.McCown started his third straight with Sam Darnold still limited with an injured foot, and the 39-year-old veteran threw for only 128 yards as the Titans outgained the Jets 403-280 in total offense.New York led 22-13 on Jason Myers' fifth and final field goal, a 39-yarder with 26 seconds left in the third quarter."You can't do that," McCown said. "You've got to get seven points when you're down there, and we didn't do that. And yeah, if you do that too much in the NFL, it will come back to get you, and it certainly did us today."The Titans had their chances to avoid the dramatic ending with first-and-goal on back-to-back drives in the fourth quarter only to settle for a pair of field goals by Ryan Succop. The Titans forced the Jets to punt with 1:46 left and found themselves starting at their own 14 to set up the game-winning drive.SPECIAL INDEEDThe Jets got production from across the board on special teams. Kevin Pierre-Louis blocked a punt in the second quarter to set up Myers' third field goal Tajae Sharpe Jersey , and Henry Anderson blocked Succop's extra-point attempt inside the final minute of the first half. Andre Roberts opened the third quarter with a 61-yard kickoff return.FLAG FESTThe Jets were flagged 11 times for 96 yards, including three times on the Titans' final drive with one offsetting. The Titans, who came in as the NFL's least penalized team, had eight for 75 yards.INJURIESJets O-lineman Spencer Long had an illness, so Dakota Dozier started at LG in his place. ... Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne hurt a shoulder, but returned.UP NEXTJets: Visit Buffalo next Sunday.Titans: Host Jacksonville on Thursday night.Follow Teresa M. Walker at teresamwalker INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Andrew Luck followed the perfect plan Sunday. He threw three more touchdown passes again, avoided getting sacked again and helped Adam Vinatieri achieve another record-breaking moment by leading the Colts to their fourth straight win.Luck and T.Y. Hilton hooked up twice for scores, Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins each ran for one touchdown and the Colts' defense stymied Tennessee in a 38-10 drubbing that gave Luck a 10-0 record against the Titans. "Andrew was just unbelievable," coach Frank Reich said after his quarterback improved to 10-0 in the series. "I mean every throw was with pinpoint accuracy."His timing was spot on, too. With some of the franchise's greatest players in attendance, Luck went 23 of 29 for 297 yards and finished with a rating of 143.8. He tied Dan Marino for the third-longest streak of consecutive games with three or more TD passes (seven) in league history. Only Tom Brady (10) and Peyton Manning (eight) remain ahead of Luck on the list.Hilton caught nine passes for 155 yards in front of Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison, the top two receivers in each of the Colts' most prominent receiving categories. And the victory, the 210th regular-season win of Vinatieri's career, allowed the 45-year-old to break George Blanda's record as Indy (5-5) moved squarely back into the playoff hunt. For the Titans (5-5), it was all too familiar. They've lost to Luck when he never gave them a chance, when he rallied the Colts late, when he was pulled early and even when he was hurt. This loss might have been the most frustrating yet. After defensive coordinator Dean Pees was taken to a nearby hospital when medical workers took him out of the press box in a wheelchair during the first quarter, first-year coach Mike Vrabel took over play-calling duties and Luck skewered the league's top-ranked defense.Losing starting quarterback Marcus Mariota with an injured right elbow in the final minute of the first half certainly didn't help.Vrabel provided no postgame update on Mariota but said Pees would be kept overnight for further tests. The 69-year-old Pees retired briefly after last season, and Luck and Reich both said they hoped Pees would be all right. Tennessee, meanwhile, has some soul-searching to do."They were ready to go. They played much better than we did. They coached much better than we did," Vrabel said. "We have to drop this and lose it after we make the corrections Kamalei Correa Jersey , and get going."Luck made it look easy. After Mack's 1-yard run and Vinatieri's 22-yard field goal gave Indy an early 10-0 lead, Luck connected with Hilton on a 68-yard TD pass. Wilkins' 18-yard scoring run made it 24-0.All the Titans could muster was a 42-yard field on the final play of the half — after Mariota left and only after the Colts drew an unnecessary roughness penalty.Indy put it away by winning a replay challenge that turned a Hilton's 11-yard catch into a 14-yard TD and a 7-yard scoring pass from Luck to Dontrelle Inman in the fourth quarter."I cannot speak to the previous years," Luck said of his mastery over Tennessee. "I'm just happy we're 1-0 this year against Tennessee and we'll face them again, obviously, when that time comes."WAYNE'S WORLD Wayne became the 15th member of the Colts' Ring of Honor on Sunday during a halftime ceremony where he was surrounded by former teammates including Manning, Marvin Harrison and Edgerrin James, and NFL Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian, who drafted Wayne in 2001.He played in a franchise-record 211 games and caught 1,070 passes for 14,345 yards and 82 TDs in 14 seasons — all in Indy."This (blue) jacket looks pretty damn good on me, thank you," Wayne said before jogging to the end zone to thank the fans — as he did for years just before kickoff.STAT PACKTitans: Mariota was 10 of 13 with 85 yards and one interception before leaving. Blaine Gabbert went 11 of 16 with 118 yards, one TD and one interception after replacing Mariota. … Tennessee allowed five sacks. … The Titans gave up a season-high point total.Colts: Luck was not sacked for the fifth consecutive game, breaking a tie for the fifth-longest streak in the league since sacks became an official stat in 1982. Luck has not been sacked in 214 consecutive dropbacks. … Starting center Ryan Kelly left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury and did not return. He said his knee will be examined Monday.THEY SAID ITTitans: "I was able to get the headset switched over, and everybody on the staff, just like they do with Dean, was able to help out," Vrabel said.Colts: "I guess I knew they kept that stat, but I didn't know I was close," Vinatieri said of passing Blanda.UP NEXTTitans: Vrabel returns to Houston next Monday.Colts: Welcome former division foe Miami to Indianapolis next Sunday.
  2. The NFL has just about wrapped up Week 9 action Earl Mitchell Jersey , with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football to close it out. Both teams are still in the playoff picture and a win on MNF would be huge. Dallas is a game and a half back of Washington, while Tennessee is two and a half games back of Houston. We’re back once again with a look at NFL standings from a couple different perspectives. We’ll be breaking down the draft order, since the San Francisco 49ers are firmly in the mix for the top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. We will also break down the playoff picture since most of us will pay at least passing interest in the playoffs come January.2019 NFL Draft orderThe 49ers got back in the win column this week, crushing the Raiders on Thursday Night Football. Even with the win, the 49ers only dropped one spot in the draft order. The Giants and Raiders hold the top two sports, and the 49ers are now tied with the Bills at 2-7. The 49ers have the weaker strength of schedule (.504 to .529) thanks in part to losses by both the Rams and Seahawks. The next closest teams with weaker SOS are the 3-5 Indianapolis Colts (.458) and 3-6 New York Jets (.478).There are 11 teams with three wins at the moment. That’s where things could get really interesting as the 49ers host the Giants this week. The 49ers are a slight favorite in what could be Nick Mullens’ second start. If Mullens builds on last week (and/or the Giants remain a train wreck), the 49ers could be 3-7 a week from tonight. If they improve to 3-7, it gets interesting coming down the final month and a half of the season.Aside from 49ers-Giants, some big games in draft order include the 2-6-1 Browns hosting the 4-4 Falcons, the 3-6 Jets hosting the 2-7 Bills, and the 1-7 Raiders hosting the 6-2 Chargers. The Chargers will probably roll the Raiders, but divisional games can get a little crazy at times. The 8-1 Chiefs host the 2-6 Cardinals, and while we might expect an easy KC win K’Waun Williams Jersey , the Chiefs face the Rams in Week 11, so this could be a prime letdown opportunity. Here is the top six in the draft order heading into Monday Night Football.1. New York Giants (1-7 — .520)2. Oakland Raiders (1-7 — .547)3. San Francisco 49ers (2-7 — .504)4. Buffalo Bills (2-7 — .529)5. Arizona Cardinals (2-6 — .533)6. Cleveland Browns (2-6-1 — .567)2019 NFL playoffsThe big game in Week 9 saw the Saints win a wild one over the Rams. The Saints looked prime to blow out LA, leading 35-14 in the second quarter. However, the Rams stormed back to tie the game in the fourth quarter — only to give up ten unanswered points to close out the game. The Rams still hold a half game lead on the Saints for best record, but New Orleans holds the head-to-head tiebreaker once the Rams get through their bye.The NFC East is tightening up following the Cowboys and Eagles adding Amari Cooper and Golden Tate, respectively. Philadelphia had a bye this week and Dallas plays on Monday Night Football, but Washington was thumped by Atlanta to drop to a game ahead of Philadelphia and a game and a half ahead of Dallas.Week 9 had a pair of big inter-conference matchups. The Patriots outlasted the Packers on Sunday Night Football, putting up 14 straight points in the fourth quarter to win 31-17. Meanwhile, the Chargers went into Seattle to beat the Seahawks. There were some shaky penalties called against Seattle, but LA took control in the second quarter and never let up. Chiefs-Chargers in Week 15 could be a huge matchup for AFC West control.NFC playoff picture1. Los Angeles Rams (8-1)2. New Orleans Saints (7-1)3. Chicago Bears (5-3)4. Washington (5-3)5. Carolina Panthers (6-2)6. Minnesota Vikings (5-3-1)AFC playoff picture1. Kansas City Chiefs (8-1)2. New England Patriots (7-2)3. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2-1)4. Houston Texans (6-3)5. Los Angeles Chargers (6-2)6. Cincinnati Bengals (5-3) San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman remained in a walking boot Thursday. However he was adamant that his strained left calf is not related to his other more serious leg problems of the past year.Sherman hurt his calf in the second quarter of Sunday's loss at Kansas City and didn't return. Team officials said he'll miss at least two games, though Sherman said the only certainty was that he'd be sidelined for this Sunday's road game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The three-time All-Pro missed the final seven games of last season after having surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. But given that he also had surgery on his left Achilles during the offseason, Sherman was asked whether his current left leg injury might be connected to past issues."It just makes it an easy story for you guys. Makes it lazy reporting," Sherman said. "But nah Nick Bosa San Francisco 49ers Jersey , it's getting back out there and going through the trials and tribulations of a season, wear and tear of football and taking all these reps after not taking them for eight months. Your body's gotta get used to it again."The 30-year-old Sherman missed a practice leading into the Chiefs game for what the team described as a "heel" issue, so he at least was on the injury radar even before Sunday. His absence is a damaging blow for a 49ers pass defense that ranks 27th in the NFL at 287.7 yards allowed per game. The Chargers enter Sunday ranked fifth in total offense (415.3 yards per game).Jimmie Ward, who has spent part of his career at safety, is expected to start in Sherman's place. Second-year player Ahkello Witherspoon, who struggled two weeks ago against Detroit, likely will man the other cornerback spot.Compounding things is that both of San Francisco's starting safeties, Adrian Colbert and Jaquiski Tartt, are battling injuries and their status is unknown for Sunday. But aside from health, the biggest issue for San Francisco's defense has been poor tackling through the first three games. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said his unit is getting back to basics in practice, drilling on fundamentals even when the team is out of pads."It's very clear when you turn on the tape that we're actually lunging and ducking our heads at the point of attack," Saleh said. "When you teach tackling, everything that we talk about is you've got to run your body through their body."Get a body on a body Nick Bosa Jersey , step on their toes, wrap up, keep your feet moving, drive for five and get them to the ground."The biggest culprits last Sunday were inside linebackers Reuben Foster and rookie Fred Warner, who missed six and four tackles respectively. Those two are believed to be a promising young core of the 49ers defense. But Sunday was Foster's season debut after serving a two-game suspension. Saleh said Foster may have been knocking rust off, but the linebacker wasn't letting himself off the hook."That's uncalled for, just missing tackles like that," Foster said. "That's not like us as a team and that's not like me."NOTES: Tartt (shoulder) missed Thursday's practice as did guard Joshua Garnett (toe). Colbert (hip), running back Alfred Morris (knee) and guard Mike Person (knee) were limited. . Foster used "Roody-poo" in a quote earlier this week, a term made famous by "The Rock" during his wrestling days. Foster was delighted that the Hollywood star referenced it on Twitter. "It was amazing," Foster said of the shout-out.
  3. Two years removed from his dismissal as Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Womens Steve Largent Jersey , Darrell Bevell has a new job.It was announced on Wednesday that Bevell is headed for the Detroit Lions to replace the wonderfully named Jim Bob Cooter as the team’s OC. Bevell was not hired by any team in 2018, but did have interest from the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars this year before the Lions hired him.The Lions were a pretty disappointing 6-10 this season, which marked Matt Patricia’s first as the team’s head coach. One of the big problems Detroit suffered was a poor offense, ranking 25th in points scored, 23rd in DVOA, and Matthew Stafford had his fewest passing yards (3,777) since 2010, when he played only three games and had a season-ending injury. Bevell was, of course, Seattle’s OC from 2011-2017, and despite repeatedly fielding top-10 offenses by DVOA under Russell Wilson, he was a lightning rod for criticism even during Seattle’s best years, and then when the offense started to falter in his last two seasons, the Seahawks let him go. Patricia and Bevell certainly have a history of competing against each other. The Russell Wilson revolution started with Seattle beating New England in Patricia’s first year as Patriots DC, then Patricia exacted revenge with the play that shall not be named at Super Bowl XLIX, only for Bevell to return fire with Wilson torching the Patriots defense for 300+ yards and three touchdowns in a 31-24 win in Foxboro. That was New England’s only loss all season with Tom Brady starting. Now Patricia and Bevell are on the same coaching staff, and in need of the offense to be fixed up pretty heavily. Patricia’s first season was a major step down from the end of the Jim Caldwell era, so he might be one of the names on the hot seat entering next season. He’s indispensable to the Seahawks. He’s only 25. Clark’s performance on the field will make him a wealthy man, probably sooner rather than later. John Schneider should be lauded for getting top 10 value out of a pick nowhere near the top 10. Pete Carroll and his staff should be commended for developing Clark into a premier defensive end.Deep breath.Talking about Clark off the field is... much less easy. The police report from one messy night in the fall of 2014 will follow him wherever he goes, whether fair or not. I mention it in this story because without the incident, Clark’s getting picked in the first round. It’s relevant to how he landed in Seattle; besides, public relations help dictate how successful an athlete’s career can truly be. The domestic violence investigation, and the ensuing plea deal that saw him punished with jail time already served plus a fine, will remain a reason many fans will never fully embrace him — a fate he deserves, or doesn’t. By now, we know the story. As it was reported, at least. Here’s a link to the police report, which you shouldn’t read if you don’t want your heart broken by the kids’ statements on the final pages. We don’t know exactly what happened in that Ohio hotel room four and a half years ago, but we know there was violence because of the bruises and the blood, we know alcohol use was alleged, we know Clark pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, we know the Seahawks looked into the details of the arrest to one degree or another, and we know people have strong feelings about how everything has played out since. Do we ever. What we also know, and can more easily pass credible judgment on, is the public story of Clark since November 15, 2014. There has been professional growth, without a whiff of legal trouble. We have witnessed the definite emergence of a star Justin Britt Jersey , one who has slow-burned all the way from risky draft pick to core Seahawks football player, and team leader to boot.Pete Carroll, via seahawks.com, on Clark:Just yesterday, Clark was building bridges with the other Seahawk awaiting a gigantic payday:Safety Bradley McDougald speaks highly of Clark:One more citation, just for the impactful headline: “Frank Clark Says Seahawks Are His Team; Richard Sherman Era Is Over.” Read the story, if you’d like, but remember the headline.On-field production, and vocal leadership to match, have made Clark one of the main faces of the current Seahawks roster. It’s not necessary to like this development, to dislike it, to wish it away, or celebrate it — it just is. It’s true whether you and I want it to be. You do what you want with the new reality in which we live. We’re here because Clark, to his credit, hasn’t screwed up a second chance (some might say a third). We’re here, spectators in the Frank Clark Show, because the title character has blossomed in Seattle, hasn’t run afoul of the law, and has either matured quickly or changed for the better. Or... maybe he never needed to change as much as some believed, because perhaps he never broke the law in the first place. The evidence indicates otherwise, strongly. But things are not always as they appear. Police reports are not divinely inspired words. They’re fallible and misleading sometimes. Weird, huh?The Seahawks gambled on Clark four years ago, and that all he’s done since then is make them look like smart evaluators for placing that bet. As for the rest http://www.seahawkslockerroom.com/authentic-justin-britt-jersey , we’re free to believe as each of us sees fit. I won’t ever be able to unread the kids’ testimony, but I also am willing to allow that people (all of us!) can get help, get well, and get wiser. Why not Clark? He wouldn’t be the first, nor will he be the last, prominent athlete to mess up royally and learn from the experience. Isn’t that what we want people to do, anyway? We can designate any number of winners and losers in the Frank Clark saga, depending on how we choose to frame it, and which parts we choose to believe or deny. Nobody will stop you from thinking justice was served or mocked; you’re free to use him as an example of how domestic violence victims are not taken seriously by authorities, or lift him up as an example of redemption. Or whatever. What’s not up for debate is that because of one man’s hard work and talent, the Seahawks are a better football team. He’s a playmaker who has made them more likely to win, and for that he will be compensated by Seattle, at or near market value, in the millions upon millions of dollars. His bank account is a winner, the defense of the team we love is a winner, and everything else is up for debate.I’ll draw my conclusions and you draw yours. America. Thing is, though — while we dabble in condemnation and conjecture, opposing quarterbacks and their coordinators are watching film on Clark, trying to figure out how to stop one of the best young pass rushers in the league. They didn’t have a lot of answers in 2018, and I bet they still won’t in 2019.If interested in joining the brand new Seaside Joe daily morning Seahawks newsletter, here’s the link to sign up.
  4. Aaron Hicks hit three home runs and the New York Yankees pummeled David Price again Josh Allen Jersey , connecting five times in the first four innings Sunday night on the way to an 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox. Luis Severino became the first 13-game winner in the majors, cruising through 6 2/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball after the Bronx Bombers quickly built him a big cushion. With the teams trading blowouts all weekend, the Yankees (54-27) took two of three from their longtime rivals to regain baseball’s best record and first place in the AL East. Batting leadoff against a left-hander, Hicks homered twice from the right side of the plate and once from the left. He smacked a two-run shot to right field in the second inning and a solo drive to center in the fourth that chased Price (9-6) and made it 8-0. Hicks pulled his 14th of the season into the right-field stands in the eighth off Hector Velazquez. It was the first three-homer game by a Yankees player since Alex Rodriguez, part of the ESPN broadcast team Sunday night, accomplished the feat at Minnesota in July 2015. CUBS 11, TWINS 10 CHICAGO (AP) – Jon Lester hit a three-run homer in an eight-run second inning and wound up with his NL-leading 11th victory. Ian Happ also homered for the Cubs. Snell (11-4) allowed one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings. Charlie Morton (10-2) struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings. DODGERS 6, ROCKIES 4 LOS ANGELES (AP) – Matt Kemp had three hits and drove in four runs, including a go-ahead homer leading off the eighth inning that rallied Los Angeles past Colorado to prevent a sweep. Kemp sent his 14th homer of the season over the center-field wall off Adam Ottavino (4-2) to put Los Angeles ahead 5-4. It was the Dodgers’ first homer of July after they hit a major league-leading and franchise-record 55 in June. One out later, Yasiel Puig doubled and Joc Pederson followed and reached on an infield single to second. Puig ran hard into third and hopped back and forth before taking off for the plate, sliding belly first. He got up and swung his arms in wild celebration with the Dodgers ahead 6-4. Kemp drove in the Dodgers’ first three runs with an RBI groundout in the first, a double in the third and a single in the fifth. Daniel Hudson (3-2) went one inning. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save. Nolan Arenado hit his 21st homer and had an RBI grounder for the Rockies. A four-run fifth inning highlighted by Pence’s double off reliever Silvino Bracho gave the Giants an 8-3 lead. Cory Gearrin (1-1) got one out in the fourth to earn the win in relief of starter Derek Holland. The Giants tagged Diamondbacks starter Zack Godley (9-6) for seven runs on nine hits in four-plus innings, ending his four-game winning streak. Arizona rallied with two runs in the seventh on Paul Goldschmidt’s 18th home run of the season, and Jarrod Dyson became the eighth player in team history to record at least two hits, two runs batted in and two stolen bases in a single game. The Diamondbacks brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with two outs, but Will Smith struck out Jake Lamb for Smith’s second save. ORIOLES 8, ANGELS 2 BALTIMORE (AP) – Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo hit consecutive homers after the Angels lost a popup in the sun, and Baltimore beat Los Angeles to end a seven-game losing streak. After the Orioles took charge with a six-run fourth inning, Trumbo homered again in the fifth and Trey Mancini also connected to help Baltimore secure its only victory during a seven-game homestand that began with four straight losses to Seattle. The Orioles improved to 1-15 against the AL West and won at home for only the second time in 19 games since May 13. Kevin Gausman (4-6) weathered temperatures in the upper 90s to go eight innings Ryquell Armstead Jersey , allowing two runs and six hits to end a run of eight straight winless starts. Kole Calhoun homered and Albert Pujols drove in a run for the Angels. Deck McGuire (0-1) was the loser. MARINERS 1, ROYALS 0 SEATTLE (AP) – James Paxton limited Ka Throughout the years there have been a large number of NFL players who have struggled with injuries throughout their professional career. Some were really good players who never reached stardom due to injuries every season. Some were able to have long careers despite being on the injury list every other season. Some were forced to end their careers early because of injuries. This article is dedicated to the most injury prone players in NFL history. I did not go really far back in time, but tried to keep it close enough that the viewers would be able to remember the players and their careers. Not all of the players on the list are playing and some of them are starting to fade away from memory. This past offseason, we saw a trend of younger players retiring, either from injuries or the fact that they felt the risk of injury wasn't worth a professional football career. The NFL more than any other major North American sports league, is full of players that have short careers. The average career is just three years. Some of these players were able to play through injuries, while others kept missing playing time because of them. One thing they all have in common? The unfortunate label of "Injury Prone" after consistently having injuries throughout their NFL careers.

Tyler Seguin assisted on the goals by Radulov and Benn. The barrage wiped out a 3-0 Anaheim lead and came against Ducks goalie John Gibson, who entered the game 3-0-1 with a 1.44 goals against average.Radulov became the first Dallas player to score a goal in each of the first four games.“It’s always hard to come back from 3-0 down,” Radulov said. “Today the hockey god was on our side.”Klingberg’s goal from the right point to the upper left corner of the net came at 17:46, 2 seconds before a roughing penalty against Gibson expired.“(The power play) was a huge key tonight, especially on that one when the game-winner was scored,” Radulov said. “We were winning all those neutral pucks.”Radek Faksa added a length-of-the-ice, empty-net goal with 1:28 to play.Anton Khudobin, making his Dallas debut in goal, had a good view of the action at the other end of the ice.“It was amazing to see that comeback Washington Capitals Hoodies Authentic ,” Khudobin said. “If I could have a pillow, I would probably fall asleep.”The NHL record for shots on goal in a period is 33, by the Bruins in the second period of a 3-2 home win over Chicago on March 4, 1941. Dallas is 3-1.Anaheim’s Jacob Silfverberg and Kiefer Sherwood had first-period goals, and Adam Henrique added a power-play goal at 8:09 of the second, when the Ducks had only four shots on goal.At the first intermission, Stars coach Jim Montgomery made changes.“I think it put a little desperation in us,” Montgomery said. “We changed all four lines. I wanted Radulov to get (Valeri) Nichushkin going. I thought (Jason) Spezza would be a good center with that group.”Nichushkin and Spezza assisted on Carrick’s goal.“Those lines all generated chances Washington Capitals Hats Authentic ,” Montgomery said.Gibson made 40 saves while playing the first two periods. Ryan Miller had six in the third.“We hung our goaltender out to dry,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “That’s inexcusable for a hockey club to put a guy in that type of situation, under siege for 20 minutes. They turned their game up.”Khubodin stopped 22 shots.Anaheim’s first-period goals resulted from long-range shots.Silfverberg took the puck in the right corner, skated around to the left point and sent a wrist shot past a screen by Max Comtois for the first goal at 9:01.At 13:28, Sherwood scored his first NHL goal when he tipped Josh Manson’s shot from the right point up and past Khubodin.Dallas finally took advantage of the huge advantage in shots on goal at 11:14 of the second, when Radulov scored from the left faceoff circle on the Stars’ first power play. At that point, they had outshot Anaheim 28-13.That goal seemed to energize Dallas. CHICAGO (AP) — Shea Theodore drove to the net, and Carl Dahlstrom took care of the rest.Vegas made its own luck in Chicago.Theodore scored 1:19 into overtime when Dahlstrom slid the puck into his own goal, lifting the Golden Knights to a 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks on Saturday night.“We just found a way,” coach Gerard Gallant said.Theodore was driving when Dahlstrom knocked it away — and through the legs of goaltender Collin Delia. It was Theodore’s first goal since he scored twice in an 8-3 victory at Chicago on Nov. 27.“I hadn’t scored for a while, so it’s good to get a bounce like that,” Theodore said.Alex Tuch, Ryan Carpenter and Paul Stastny also scored for Vegas www.officialhockeyjetsshop.com , which won for the eighth time in nine games. Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves.Tuch extended his points streak to a franchise-record nine games in the Golden Knights’ second season.Alex DeBrincat scored twice for Chicago, which lost for the fifth time in six games. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, and Delia made 29 stops. The Blackhawks led 2-0 after one and 3-1 late in the second.“We got a little passive and let them come at us,” coach Jeremy Colliton said. “They raised the tempo a bit there because they were pushing for a goal. That’s what you have to expect. We were on our heels.”Each team had a goal waved off. Vegas successfully challenged for offside in the first, and an NHL-initiated review took a tying goal away from Pierre-Edouard Bellemare in the third for kicking the puck in — a decision the Golden Knights felt was unfair.Vegas then tied it at 3 when Stastny knocked home a rebound with 4:04 left in regulation. Max Pacioretty sent one off the right post before Stastny got his sixth of the season.“I was just trying to throw if back on net,” Stastny said. “I thought (Pacioretty) would put that in, but I have to pick up his trash.”Looking to salvage the finale of a three-game homestand, Chicago got off to a fast start behind DeBrincat and Kane.DeBrincat skated across the middle, got a feed from Dominik Kahun and slid a backhand past Fleury 4:36 into the first. It was DeBrincat’s 11th goal in his last 16 games and No. 50 for his career in just his second NHL season.Kane then made it 2-0 with a power-play goal with 4:40 left in the period. 6. DENVER (AP) — Don’t be fooled: That third-period lead isn’t so safe. Not this season Mika Zibanejad Jersey , anyway. There’s been quite a comeback for the comeback. The NHL has seen 110 third-period comeback wins spanning 611 games through New Year’s Eve. That’s third-most in league history and not far off the 114 rallies in 2014-15 and 113 in ’13-14, according to research by the NHL stats and information department.Going into the new year, the only teams without a third-period comeback for a win in regulation were Carolina (0-13-2 when trailing after two) and Los Angeles (0-17-1). And the only team not to lose with a final-period lead remains Toronto, which is 19-0-0.Translation: Don’t leave early, because anything can and often does happen in the final period.“Fans are getting what they want,” joked Montreal forward Tomas Tatar said. “It’s got to be pretty intense for them.”These days and in this speedy version of the game, no lead seems out of reach. Take Tampa Bay on Saturday: Down a goal in the third against Montreal, Adam Erne tied it up and then scored the game-winner with 1:02 remaining.“There’s no more of sitting back and closing and trying to suffocate the other team,” Montreal coach Claude Julien said when his team was in Denver on Dec. 19. “It’s a skating game now. With the skating game that’s being allowed right now, there’s more offense being showcased.”Try sitting on the puck to protect a lead with the likes of Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Nikita Kucherov or Nathan MacKinnon attempting to swipe it away.Good luck with that.“The league is just getting faster and faster, young guys are coming through the league and they’re really, really good skaters,” Tatar said. “It’s just a fast game. It’s faster than ever.”Not only that, but these youngsters don’t view things as erasing a deficit so much as an opportunity to crank up the intensity.“Everybody is good throughout the lineup,” Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said. “That makes it that much harder to put teams away. It goes to show how many good players there are in the league and how many game-changers there are Womens Pavel Buchnevich Jersey , that can turn things around.”And no slashing. Or holding. Or hooking. Defensemen need to be on their best behavior.“Defensively speaking, when you can’t clutch and you can’t grab — it’s been that way for 10 years now — that really opens up the ice and allows guys to score,” Avalanche defenseman Ian Cole said. “The guys are as skilled as they’ve ever been. Every year, they’re more skilled and scoring more and more ridiculous highlight-reel goals. Guys are shooting from the goal-line and it’s going off the side of the goalie’s mask and in. Guys are doing stuff now that they haven’t done before — or doing it more often.“The skill level is as high as it’s ever been in the league.”Hence, the volume of comebacks. This also helps when down: A positive attitude.“You always have to believe. You can’t give up,” Tatar said. “And you don’t have to. There’s a big chance you score one or two goals and you’re back in the game.”That was the case on Dec. 15 for Dallas, which fell behind the Avs 3-0 after one period and 4-2 after two. The Stars tied it up late in the final period before Colorado scored twice to earn the win.Nothing is easy.“I don’t feel comfortable with any lead until the buzzer sounds,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. “It’s a tribute to the talent around the league. When teams start feeling it, they start coming at you in waves, and it’s tough to defend.”That’s why the best defense is sometimes to remain on the offensive. Don’t sit back — keep striking.“We’re trying to stay aggressive,” Landeskog said. “The O-zone is the best place to play defense. At least, that’s the way we think about it. That’s easier said than done. The team that’s behind is always going to push.”THREE AMIGOSMikko Rantanen (17 goals, 45 assists) and MacKinnon (24 goals, 35 assists) get the lion’s share of the credit on the high-scoring top line for Colorado.Chalk up another assist for Rantanen, though, because he wanted to make sure Landeskog received full credit, too. Landeskog’s tied for the team lead with 24 goals.“He flies under the radar Vladislav Namestnikov Jersey ,” Rantanen said. “The way he plays the game is the right way always. That’s real fun to watch.”WINTER CLASSICThe 2020 Winter Classic will be held at the Cotton Bowl in Texas. New Jersey has lost four of its last five games and is just 3-7-5 in its last 15 while dropping into last place in the Eastern Conference. The Bruins (20-13-4) got Patrice Bergeron back from injured reserve Saturday and Bergeron had two goals, including his 300th Bobby Ryan Jersey , and two assists in a win over the Nashville Predators Saturday before getting blanked at Carolina. He has 30 points in 21 games this season. But Zdeno Chara, Kevan Miller and Jake DeBrusk are getting closer to returning — for a team that has been hammered by injuries from the start but is still currently in a playoff spot.Asked about his team getting healthier, and down the road in the playoffs, Boston’s David Backes said, “I’m not going to talk about that, because the second we talk about that, someone else might have an ailment.“Yeah, it’ll be nice to see where the marbles all lay at the end of it. That’s kind of been our M.O. all year: Wherever you’re inserted, you’ve got to be effective and bring what you can bring and contribute to a team win. We’ve done a decent job of that, and we find ourselves at the Christmas break in a playoff spot.”The Bruins have won the last six TD Garden games between the teams.Poor puck handling by Tuukka Rask contributed to Sunday’s loss, and coach Bruce Cassidy criticized his goaltender’s handling of the puck.Jaroslav Halak, in net for the three-game winning streak, will likely face New Jersey Thursday. You can tell the excitement in our fan base when we were going on that run, and when we clinched against Toronto last year, it was awesome. You have to get winning in order to feel that though.”On their website, the Devils point out that Hall has 37 points in 32 games —while he had 36 in his first 36 games last season.Bruins rookie Urho Vaakanainen, who missed two months with a concussion, is healthy again, but is on loan to the Finnish National Team in the World Junior Championships.

Veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots, making save after highlight save until things got interesting late in the third period. With San Jose trailing 4-0, Kevin Labanc, Tomas Hertl and Boedker scored in a 6:09 span to pull the Sharks within one with 4:16 remaining. However, Marchessault’s empty-netter with 21 seconds left sealed it for Vegas.Martin Jones allowed four goals on 31 shots before being pulled in the third. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ryan Hartman leveled Rasmus Dahlin on the open ice and wrestled Buffalo defenseman Zach Bogosian to the ground in a 20-second span that had the Philly crowd roaring and made the newest Flyer an instant fan favorite.Hartman’s first shift was a big hit — and a sign the Flyers still have some fight in their playoff push.“It sounded like they loved it. I plan on bringing a lot more of that,” Hartman said.Jake Voracek, James van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux each scored to keep the Flyers’ tenuous postseason prospects alive in a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.Philadelphia’s win capped an emotional 72 hours for the franchise — from the high of scoring three straight goals to beat Pittsburgh in overtime in the outdoor Stadium Series game on Saturday to the downer of trading former All-Star forward and fan favorite Wayne Simmonds at Monday’s deadline.Flyers fans waved white towels as a source of inspiration for a team that is 14-3-1 over the past 18 games more than a symbol of surrender for one that entered seven points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. There are 19 games left and the Flyers can’t afford many losses — and need teams ahead of them such as the Penguins Anton Khudobin Jersey Womens , Carolina and Montreal to struggle down the stretch. The new guy seems poised to help with the playoff push.Hartman, a 6-foot forward, was acquired from Nashville in the Simmonds deal and quickly endeared himself to his new city. Oskar Lindblom scored just 2:48 into the game to get the Flyers rolling. Hartman then crushed Dahlin, the No. 1 draft pick, with a clean check and was quickly jumped by Bogosian. The scrap was broken up as the crowd roared for the latest fighting Flyer.“That’s kind of how I play, I’ve been able to do that throughout my career,” Hartman said. “It’s got me to this point, so no reason for stopping.”Voracek knocked in his 17th goal of the season on his second whack at a rebound to beat Carter Hutton for a 2-0 lead. The Flyers never trailed thanks to van Riemsdyk’s 17th goal in the second and Travis Sanheim’s sixth goal of the season just 46 seconds into the third.Giroux, who scored the OT winner against the Penguins, had an easier time getting his 19th goal Wade Megan Jersey Womens , scoring an empty-netter late in the third.Van Riemsdyk was impressed with Hartman, who will be a restricted free agent this summer. Nashville had hoped Hartman would be more productive after offseason shoulder surgery, only to see him manage just 10 goals and 20 points.“He plays the game pretty hard, he’s really a smart and skilled player, too,” van Riemsdyk said. “Hopefully, we can build on that.”Jack Eichel scored his 22nd goal and Casey Mittelstadt had his ninth of the season for the Sabres, who were coming off a 5-3 loss Monday to Toronto.“We weren’t ready to go at the start of the game, for sure,” Eichel said. “You go down 2-0 that quick Tobias Rieder Jersey Womens , we weren’t ready to go.”Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour made his team debut after he was acquired in a trade with Anaheim. Buffalo remains in the playoff picture despite going 12-19-6 since a 10-game winning streak in November. The Sabres began the day in 10th place (66 points), but were passed by the Flyers (67 points) in the chase for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.“I think it’s just disappointing because it’s a game of mistakes, and right now we are making more mistakes than any team,” Sabres coach Phil Housley said. “I still like the fight in our group, though. They’re sticking together and fighting till the end, but we can’t be chasing or trading chances with teams, that’s not our game.”Brian Elliott was solid in net, stopping 34 shots to keep the Flyers afloat as they await the expected return of injured rookie goalie Carter Hart in another week.NOTES: The parent company that owns the NFL’s Buffalo Bills and NHL’s Sabres announced the departures of Chief Operating Officer Bruce Popko, Chief Administrative Officer Brent Rossi and Executive Vice President Erica Muhleman. … Buffalo completed the 12th of its 16th set of back-to-backs this season and fell to 5-5-2 in the second game. … Flyers D Philippe Myers had an assist on Voracek’s goal for his first career NHL point. … Flyers had 45 shots on goal.UP NEXTSabres host the Penguins on Friday.Flyers play Thursday at Columbus.
  8. DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche could point to obvious flaws for their prolonged plunge: Erratic goaltenders Kris Letang Jersey , floundering special teams, inconsistent scoring from players not on their top line .Or just go with the more direct one.“We just haven’t played good enough,” captain Gabriel Landeskog said. The Avalanche were tied for the most points in the Western Conference after games on Dec. 7. Two months and a 5-15-6 record later, they’re trying to get on track and climb back into playoff contention. It’s been a perplexing freefall for an Avalanche team that hasn’t won since Jan. 19.“Everybody’s kind of taking their individual games down a couple of notches,” said Landeskog, whose team hosts Toronto on Tuesday looking to break a seven-game slide (0-4-3). “That adds up to the team not desperate enough, not hungry enough, not fast enough, not physical enough.”The silver lining to this grisly stretch: Colorado (22-22-11, 55 points) still sat just four points out of a playoff spot entering Monday. Any other year, the deficit probably would be even greater.“We’re lucky,” center Nathan MacKinnon said. “We’re lucky the West is bad this year. If we were in the East, we’d be (eight) points out. So, we’re lucky everyone’s kind of lost separately. It’s been weird. We had a great start. We were first in our division and we’ve been just losing ever since, so we’re lucky. It feels like we’re 30 points out, but we’re only (four) and we need to remind ourselves of that.”Colorado finished a three-game trip with three straight overtime losses . Those are a valuable three points earned in defeat, but the team desperately needs wins.“It’s been two months we’ve been losing Mario Lemieux Jersey , so if we don’t get wins we’re not happy,” said MacKinnon, whose team dropped to 1-11 in OT games this season. “We need wins. That’s all that really matters.”General manager Joe Sakic recently gave the reeling team a vote of confidence. Playoffs are still firmly on his mind.“I believe in the guys in that dressing room, that we can right the ship,” Sakic said. “I know they believe it. Right now, the confidence is a little low.”Colorado’s role at the trade deadline on Feb. 25 could be decided over the next few games. Once potential buyers — or comfortable making no moves — the team could become sellers. One thing Sakic won’t do is mortgage the future. He said the two first-round picks are off limits, along with some of their prized prospects.“For us, it’s got to make sense going forward,” Sakic said of a deal. The recent struggles in net have plagued Colorado. Semyon Varlamov is 13-13-8 with a 2.91 goals-against average. Backup Philipp Grubauer hasn’t been any more steady, going 9-7-3 with a 3.47 goals-against.“Got to get them playing with a little more confidence,” Sakic said. The power play of late has been problematic, too. Since Dec. 8, they’re last in the league in penalty kill percentage and 21st in converting power play chances.Colorado also is looking for more secondary scoring to help out the top line of Landeskog, MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, which has combined for 206 points.“Obviously, everything is magnified when you lose,” MacKinnon said. “When you win Matt Murray Jersey , those mistakes kind of get covered up and you don’t really see them in video or things like that. So, it’s been tough. Obviously, a lot of negativity, but we’ve played some decent games.”Sakic remains firmly in the corner of coach Jared Bednar, who led the Avalanche back to the postseason a year ago — he was a coach of the year finalist — after going 22-56-4 in his first season.“The problem is not coaching at all,” Sakic said. “We have good systems.”The skid hasn’t soured the locker room, MacKinnon said“Some losing teams kind of turn on each other, but everyone has each other’s backs and we’re trying to win with each other,” MacKinnon said. “We know (with) losing comes changes and we don’t want to change our team. So, the mood is still pretty good.“I think that’s the only way to get out of it. If you hang your head and be negative, I think you’re just kind of doomed from there. So we’re still positive.”

He beat Al Montoya with a wrist shot from the slot after Derek Grant won the faceoff against Leon Draisaitl.Following a wide-open overtime in which both teams had plenty of chances to win, Draisaitl and Connor McDavid scored in the shootout for Edmonton and Montoya stopped shots by Ryan Getzlaf and Ondrej Kase after Rakell made his.”When you’re not really in the hunt anymore you’ve got to find ways to keep yourself motivated and we’ve definitely been able to do that,” said McDavid, who had three assists. ”I think our last two games have been two of the best that we’ve played in a long time and it’s good to see.”Draisaitl scored in his third straight game for the Oilers, who have won three in a row and four of five. Montoya made 41 saves, and Anton Slepyshev and Iiro Pakarinen also scored. Michael Cammalleri had two assists, giving him 12 in his last 12 games.Rakell had his first career hat trick and Getzlaf added a goal and two assists for the Ducks, who have earned at least one point in six consecutive home games. Adam Henrique scored a power-play goal, and Ryan Miller stopped 37 shots. The Oilers haven’t had much go right this season. They made two trades over the weekend and appear poised to move Patrick Maroon before Monday’s deadline after the forward was held out for the third straight game. Despite the turmoil, they are also delivering some of their best performances right now.”It shows character in the room,” Montoya said. ”The core is committed to this team and they help and lead the way.”Strome, who had his fifth career multi-goal game, put the Oilers ahead 3-2 at 7:02 of the second period. Hampus Lindholm nearly broke up Draisaitl’s centering pass during a 3-on-2 rush, but Strome was still able to reach back and score. He added his fifth goal in five games by scoring 2:31 into the third for a 4-2 lead.Getzlaf’s long shot redirected off the back of Yohann Auvitu to cut the lead to 4-3 with six minutes to play, but Pakarinen scored 1:40 later to restore a two-goal margin. While the Oilers were surging this weekend Colorado Avalanche Hoodies Authentic , the Ducks went on a downward trend. They took only one of a possible four points against Edmonton and Arizona, the bottom two teams in the Pacific Division, and were sluggish from the start Sunday. Getzlaf made a poor pass at the blue line right to Cammalleri in the neutral zone, and he fed Draisaitl for a shot between Miller’s legs to put the Oilers up 1-0 after 13 seconds.”We played good for four or five games in a row and then this weekend we just kind of were a little bit flat. It’s hard to explain, but it’s just the reality of it. So, proud of the way we came back, got a point, and we’ve got to build off that and get ready for the push here,” said Getzlaf, who made amends by helping set up Rakell’s goal at 1:46 to tie it at 1.By rallying for one point, Anaheim moved into third place in the Pacific Division with 74 points. The Ducks are one point ahead of Calgary, which dropped to the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.”We pulled our goaltender and scored two goals,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. ”You don’t know what that point is going to mean at the end of the year.”NOTES: Oilers forward Zack Kassian did not return after being clipped by Kase midway through the first period. … Slepyshev scored for the second straight game. … The Oilers acquired forward Pontus Aberg from Nashville in a three-team trade. 11. WINNIPEG Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , Manitoba (AP) — Blake Wheeler knows the Winnipeg Jets don’t panic when they fall behind. That mindset paid off again Thursday night when Kyle Connor scored with 1:14 remaining to give the Jets a 4-3 victory over the slumping Columbus Blue Jackets.“We’ve done it enough this year that we have a lot of confidence that we know we don’t have to change our game,” Wheeler said. “We can continue to play the same way for 60 minutes.“We’re going to generate enough chances. It’s just a matter of finishing them. Some nights they’re going to go in, and some nights they’re not.”Winnipeg won its sixth consecutive home game and handed the Blue Jackets their four straight loss overall. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella had no update after the game.Despite the loss, Tortorella was satisfied with his team’s performance.“I thought our guys rallied together and played a good game Keith Yandle Jersey ,” he said. The Blue Jackets led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two, but Roslovic tied it at 8:47 of the third when his hit shot went into the corner with 17 seconds left on a Winnipeg power play.Winnipeg killed off a penalty with six minutes left and then Bobrovsky made a big save on Mathieu Perreault.Wheeler helped open the scoring after a Columbus turnover when he set up Scheifele for a one-timer that beat Bobrovsky at 4:34 of the first.Ryan Murray sent the puck between the skates of a Winnipeg defender right to Panarin’s stick and he fired it over Hellebuyck’s glove to tie it at 8:52. BUFFALO Authentic Nick Bjugstad Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo tells The Associated Press he’s feeling good while recovering from his third concussion in less than three years.A smiling Okposo made the comment Saturday while making his way through the press box to watch Buffalo’s home game against Washington. His appearance came after coach Phil Housley said Okposo has begun skating on his own a little over a week since being felled by a punch to the face during a fight with New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo.Okposo was cleared to travel for the team’s game at New Jersey on Feb. 17. He did not play against the Devils and instead was sent home, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.Housley didn’t provide a timetable in saying he imagines Okposo returning to play this season.“He skated again today and those are all good signs for us,” Housley said.Okposo’s concussion history includes him missing the final two weeks of the 2017-18 season and spending nearly a week in a hospital after what he called a routine hit in practice. He also missed three games last March after suffering a concussion in a collision with Ottawa’s Bobby Ryan.
  12. VANCOUVER Dylan DeMelo Jersey Womens , British Columbia (AP) — Thatcher Demko was nervous before stepping on the ice.It sure didn’t show. The 23-year-old goalie made 36 saves in his second NHL game, leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.“An opportunity for me,” Demko said. “I’m just really excited and wanted to make the most of it.”Alex Edler, Sven Baertschi, Brock Boeser and Loui Eriksson scored for Vancouver. Bo Horvat had two assists.Buffalo got goals from Evan Rodrigues, Kyle Okposo and Sam Reinhart. Linus Ullmark stopped 19 shots.“For a large majority of the game we played the way we wanted to, but those mistakes we’re making are just a little too big,” Reinhart said. “I’m sure we can correct and we are going to.”Demko, who made one appearance for the Canucks last season, was called up Jan. 4 from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League after Vancouver traded backup goalie Anders Nilsson to Ottawa.“I’ve been working hard and just patiently waiting for that first chance,” Demko said.He was tested early and often Friday, and his performance had the crowd chanting “Dem-Ko! Dem-Ko!” in appreciation of some highlight-reel saves.“He was great. Good to see. He was one of our best players tonight Gabriel Gagne Jersey Womens ,” Vancouver coach Travis Green said.Rodrigues beat the young goaltender 8:48 in after Rasmus Ristolainen got a pass to the left wing down low and Rodrigues chipped it up over Demko’s pad.Vancouver had yet to register a single shot.Edler got the Canucks on the board 3½ minutes later with a massive slap shot from the blue line. The speeding puck squeezed through traffic and past Ullmark down low.Vancouver went up by one at 15:31 of the first after defenseman Derrick Pouliot sliced a pass through the Buffalo crease to Baertschi, who collected it on his tape and popped the puck into a wide-open net.The Swiss left wing sustained a concussion in October that kept him out of the lineup for 30 games. He has six points since he returned late last month.Early in the second, Pouliot and fellow defenseman Erik Gudbranson got caught behind the Vancouver net, leaving Okposo wide open at the hash marks. The right wing got the puck and flipped a backhand past Demko to even the score.Vancouver pulled ahead once again eight minutes into the period.Horvat stripped Buffalo’s Lawrence Pilut of the puck and made a beautiful pass to Boeser in front of the Sabres net. The right wing tipped it in for his 16th goal of the season.“Me shooting the puck hasn’t been working so I thought I’d give it to somebody who’s going to put it in the net,” Horvat said.Horvat doesn’t have a goal since Dec. 20, but his assist was his 200th career point.“Never when you’re playing in the NHL do you think you’ll be able to hit these kind of milestones,” he said. “It’s really exciting and it feels even better to get that win.”The lead didn’t last long. Almost three minutes later, Conor Sheary made a quick pass to Reinhart in front of the Vancouver crease and he put in a no-look backhand up high.“Probably half our team didn’t play their best hockey game. And when you can not play your best and win, that’s a real bonus in the NHL,” Green said.“Our goalie gave us a good period in the third period. And we found a way to win a hockey game.”Nearly six minutes into the third, Canucks left wing Josh Leivo dug out the puck from behind the Buffalo net and dished it to Eriksson. He put a one-timer past Ullmark for his fourth point in three games. The Sabres had opportunities to tie it again on a power play late in the third. Ullmark was pulled with 87 seconds left, but Demko held strong.“Responsibility without the puck James Van Riemsdyk Jersey Womens , that was the difference. But I can’t complain, we had a heck of a game,” Buffalo coach Phil Housley said. The Canucks registered just four shots in the opening period. Demko kept them in a game that got off to an “ugly” start, according to Horvat.“That’s unbelievable. Especially at a young age, coming in. 13. Titans Training Camp Day 6 Notes After a day off Womens Steve McNair Jersey , the Titans were back on the practice field Wednesday. They were in shorts and shells, so it wasn’t a full padded practice, but there was some physical hitting nonetheless. 3rd Star: Derrick HenryDerrick Henry and Dion Lewis both had good days, but Henry really stood out. He opened the team period with a really nice windback run off a zone look. That’s the second time I’ve seen that run open up big during practice and again Henry hit it hard and got in to the second level. Henry also stood out in ways that were encouraging for his overall development as a back. Possibly the hardest hit of practice was Henry stepping in to pick up a blitzing Jayon Brown in pass protection. Henry also has been better than most would anticipate as a pass catcher. The Titans offense has spent a lot of time flexing backs out wide and letting them run routes as a receiver. Henry will never have the quicks of a guy like Dion Lewis, but he’s quite capable of doing some damage as a receiver and he gives Mariota a big target on slants. It was a good all-around day for the Titans young starting running back.2nd Star: Adoree JacksonWhile Malcolm Butler has grabbed the headlines with his interceptions in camp and feisty attitude, Jackson is quietly playing like a budding star. Today Jackson starred, making some great pass breakups. First he got Tajae Sharpe with his physicality on a hitch route, then he used his hops to sky with Corey Davis and punch the ball free on a fade route near the goal line. Jackson appears to be more physical at the line of scrimmage this year and has completely erased receivers at times during camp. 1st Star: Harold LandryAs Mo noted earlier this week, Landry has been getting a lot of extra reps with Brian Orakpo out with a shoulder injury. He took advantage of those reps today as he was a force on the edge against the Titans first team offensive line. Landry got sacks on back to back snaps at one point during the red zone period at the end of practice. Once winning with speed around the edge and then teaming up with Derrick Morgan to run a game on the right side of the Titans line with both rushers ending up in Mariota’s lap. Landry’s strength setting the edge has been good as well. It’s clear that he’s going to get a lot of snaps in this defense, even when Orakpo is healthy. Injury UpdatesJohnathan Cyprien: Cyprien went down with a left knee injury during practice today. After staying down for a moment, he was able to get up on his own and walk to the locker room without help. His frustration was clear though as he threw his helmet on the way off. Hopefully the injury is nothing serious. No news will qualify as good news here. If we get to tomorrow without an announcement about him being put on IR, that should tell us that he’ll be OK relatively soon.Malcolm Butler: Butler sat out today after appearing to turn an ankle on Monday. It didn’t appear to be anything serious at the time as he got tape and tried to go back in, but it appears the team is being extra cautious with all injuries.Rishard Matthews: Matthews got some good news today as Jonathan Hutton of Midday 180 reported that the Titans receiver was out running routes before practice today Malcolm Butler Jersey , something we haven’t seen from him until today. Hutton said that Matthews looked good, with no noticeable limp or restrictions. Hopefully that means we see him back on the field soon. It will be interesting to see what the offense looks like with their top three receivers together on the field. It will also be interesting to see where he slots in relative to Taywan Taylor.Brian Orakpo: No update on Rak as he continues to be held out with a shoulder injury.Jonnu Smith: Smith was back in action today and looking to be 100%. Rashaan Evans: Still no Evans today. This is the most mysterious of all the injuries.Luke Stocker: Stocker was back today as well.Jack Conklin: No update here. Conklin continues to watch practice remaining on the PUP list.Phillip Supernaw: Supernaw was out at practice today walking around and watching. I don’t think I had seen him out there previously, but he remains on the PUP list with a mystery injury.Offense NotesOverall, it was a decent day for the offense. The defense probably won overall again, but it wasn’t a complete shutout like it was on Monday. Mariota was sharper today I thought. He had one bad miss on a throw to Luke Stocker in the flats, but besides that he was mostly accurate. He continues to be exceedingly accurate on deep throws down the field. Fades and posts have been on the money from Mariota consistently in camp which bodes well for the offense’s ability to create explosive plays in the passing game this season. Corey Davis was back in action after getting a planned day off on Monday. He had a couple good moments. My favorite was a post route in the red zone working against Adoree Jackson in a 7v7 period. He did a great job of leaning in to Jackson at the top of the route before breaking back inside to create separation and then went up high to catch the ball in the back of the end zone. Really good stuff there. He did have a bad drop during a team period though. He got free deep on a post route and Mariota dropped a great ball in, but he bobbled it and eventually had it knocked away by the recovering defensive back. Taywan Taylor continues to stack good days on top of each other. He simply eats defensive backs alive during 1v1 drills with his quickness in and out of breaks and has no issues beating press coverage there. He also made a great contested catch in the middle of the field on a deep dig with at two or three defenders all converging on him. I’m not 100% sure that Matthews steps right back in to the #2 spot when he comes back.Jonnu Smith’s return produced one of the offensive highlights of the day as he took a tight end screen to the house with a great run after the catch. Smith looks like a stud.Guard Cody Wichmann got some run with the first team at left guard during a team period late in the practice. He’s pretty clearly third behind Quinton Spain and Kevin Pamphile as the Titans look at their options at left guard. Dion Lewis looked excellent on some catches out of the backfield. He is just ridiculously quick. He also took a carry around the corner for what would have been a touchdown during team period. The Titans backfield is going to be really good.Anthony Firkser continued to get some reps high in the rotation despite the return of Smith and Stocker. It’s clear that he has made an impression and he continued his good play today with a couple catches. It was a rough day for the backup quarterbacks. Gabbert had a couple nice throws, but also threw a few in to coverage and missed bad on a deep ball that should have been open. Falk also badly underthrew a deep post and generally struggled to get completions. Jet sweeps showed up in the offensive repertoire today as both Michael Campanaro and Darius Jennings got handoffs during team periods. That was a big part of the Rams offense in 2017 and it looks like it might pop up in Tennessee this year as well.Defense NotesI thought LeShaun Sims had his best day of camp today as he filled in for Malcolm Butler with the top defensive unit. He had a nice breakup against Nick Williams and looked like he belonged out there. After Cyprien went down with an injury, the first safety in to the starting rotation was Demontre Hurst. He’s consistently been playing high in the safety pecking order this camp and has a real shot at making the roster.Kendrick Lewis made his best play of camp today as well when he jumped in front of a Blaine Gabbert pass to make a diving interception (though I’m not 100% sure he held on to the catch).Austin Johnson had a really nice win versus Xavier Su’a-Filo in a pass rush drill between the offensive and defensive line as he used a nice club-rip combination to quickly dispose of his blocker.Bennie Logan flashed a couple times as a run plugger in team period. He is tough to move off the spot. The defense broke out a pass rush package featuring Aaron Wallace, DaQuan Jones, Derrick Morgan, and Harold Landry from left to right at one point today and it was quite effective, resulting in a split sack between Morgan and Landry. I would imagine that group will be Orakpo Taylor Lewan Jersey , Casey, Morgan, and Landry when everyone is healthy this season and that should be a ton of fun to watch. One defensive wrinkle I noted was a set that looked like man to man pre-snap, but morphed in to a cover 2 zone with cornerback Adoree Jackson dropping in to one of the deep half positions across from Kevin Byard. It was an interesting look.Josh Carraway flashed in team period with the 2nd team, picking up a sack on a nice speed rush around the right tackle. Odds and EndsOne thing that I like about Vrabel is that he really tries to bring the energy in practice. He sprints from station to station during individual periods and at one point ran by a group of offensive lineman, showing off his speed. Despite Landry’s overall strong day today, the battle between him and the Boss Hogg Taylor Lewan have been mostly one-sided in favor of the two-time Pro Bowler. That’s no surprise, but the cool thing to see is that Lewan makes a point to give Landry tips after each rep, trying to help the rookie improve. Working against Lewan will only make Landry better when he gets to have a go at lesser tackles. The handling of injuries has been a little frustrating for fans and media so far because the team simply doesn’t give any information about what’s happening with a player, but I will say that I think the very cautious approach with shutting guys down if they’re even a little banged up is a smart one. Being as healthy as possible entering the season is crucial for any NFL team. It seems like the Titans are monitoring practice reps and the amount of work that players put in on a day to day basis and giving days off to try to manage that workload.Tim Shaw was out at practice today. It’s always great to see him and the relationship he has with this team. The Titans got some kick return work in today and had five guys working as possible returners: Adoree Jackson, Michael Campanaro, Dion Lewis, Akrum Wadley http://www.thetitanslockerroom.com/authentic-kamalei-correa-jersey , and Rico Gafford. The Titans are back at the normal practice time on Thursday morning at Saint Thomas Sports Park. On Friday they will travel down to Williamson County to practice at Centennial High School for their second annual “Friday Night Lights” practice. Then Saturday, they’ll host an open practice at Nissan Stadium from 3:30-6:00. Lots of good opportunities to come out and get a glimpse of the team. Adam Schein wins Co-National Writer of the Week award as he says BUY IN to the Titans 3-1 start. It’s almost like he understands that the Titans beat 2 really good teams and won the third game with Blaine Gabbert. The other Co-National Writer of the Week is surprisingly Pete Prisco, who ranks the Titans at #3 in his power rankings. Pete understands what power rankings are. They are rankings of how teams are performing right now, not projections, current, real, rankings. I’ve seen the Titans as low as 20 in some places, and around 12 in others. Pete is by far the highest on the Titans, but with good reason. At the quarter pole of the season, the Titans are awarded the best coaching staff in the NFL by NFL.com. Couldn’t agree more. 14. METAIRIE M.J. Stewart Jersey , La. (AP) — No matter how much New Orleans’ defense may have improved since this season’s opening week, linebacker Alex Anzalone doesn’t see the benefit in dismissing as irrelevant the 48 points the Saints surrendered in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.“In the back of our minds, if anything, it’s just motivation to be on your Ps and Qs this week,” Anzalone said this week, as New Orleans prepared for the rematch in Tampa Bay. “They do have a really good offense. They have a bunch of play makers, so we know what they’re capable of. There’s a lot of motivation for this game, but as a defense, that could definitely be one of them.”In Week 1, New Orleans’ busted coverages led to a 529-yard day for the Buccaneers’ offense, highlighted by touchdown passes of 58 and 36 yards to DeSean Jackson and 50 yards to Mike Evans. Tampa Bay’s offense accounted 41 points, with one Buccaneers TD coming on safety Justin Evans‘ fumble return.Yet the Saints defense that was on the field that day scarcely resembles the one playing practically lights out for the past month. The Saints have held each of their last four foes to between 7 and 17 points.“That’s huge in this league when you can hold a team to under 20 points, especially with the offense we’ve got http://www.buccaneerslockerroom.com/authentic-jordan-whitehead-jersey ,” Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said. “I’m going to bet on us most times.”Confidence is surging. Botched assignments are few. Sacks and turnovers have risen sharply. New Orleans has sacked opposing QBs 13 times in the past two games, during which they’ve also taken the ball away six times.“It’s been impressive,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “As a coach, you’re encouraged because we’re receiving good end play, but we’re also receiving great tackle play and I think inside we’ve really been able to push the pocket.”Those recent performances have made New Orleans’ season-opening stumble look more like ancient history.“That was a lot of first-game errors that we had to work out,” Anzalone said. “It wasn’t necessarily who we were as a defense. It was just something that we weren’t locked in enough or didn’t execute enough to get the job done.”Rankins, a first round draft choice in 2016, is having arguably his best season with seven sacks. Five of his sacks have come since Week 8.Like the rest of the Saints defense, he did not have a sack in Week 1.If the Bucs study game video from their previous meeting, Rankins said, they’ll see the same scheme New Orleans us using now, but vastly different execution.“With the way we’ve been playing, I think they’re going to have to try to attack us in a different way Womens Cameron Brate Jersey ,” he said.Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter said he sees a Saints defense that has “evolved,” both in terms of young players improving as well as with some key personnel changes, such as a mid-season trade to bring in cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants. Apple quickly took over as starter in place of Ken Crawley.“Their defense is playing pretty well at this time, all the way across,” Koetter said.If New Orleans’ defense has been consistent in one area, it has been against the run. The Saints have been near the top of the NFL in that department all season and rank first through 12 games, and that’s not simply because opponents are choosing to pass more against them, Koetter said.“They’re playing with the lead a lot, and teams are throwing the ball,” Koetter began. “Still, when you watch the tape you go, ‘Man these guys are pretty good against the run.’ I think their front seven is really playing hard.”Notes: WR Michael Thomas practiced fully on Thursday after resting his sore ankle on Wednesday. … Offensive tackles Terron Armstead (chest) and Ryan Ramczyk (shoulder) were listed as limited on the practice report.Bucs officially announce they have brought back WR Dye The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that the team has signed wide receiver Donteea Dye, running back Devine Redding and long snapperGarrison Sanborn. Dye (5-10 Lee Roy Selmon Jersey White , 195) spent time with Tampa Bay from 2015-16, playing in 11 games, with five starts, catching 11 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown. A Cincinnati native, Dye played collegiately at Heidelberg. Redding (5-8, 205) played collegiately at Indiana. He originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 and spent that offseason and preseason with the team. He is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. Sanborn (6-1, 240) played in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season, after having played for the Buffalo Bills for eight seasons (2009-16). In his career, he has played in 144 games, recording 31 special teams tackles and one fumble recovery. A Tampa native, Sanborn played high school football at Jesuit High School and collegiately at Florida State. This report comes courtesy of the Buccaneers Communications Department.
  15. The game that almost got away A few choice quotes came out of the San Francisco 49ers 30-27 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 2. Those from Richard Sherman resonated with me more than the others. “A win’s a win http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-arik-armstead-jersey , but it feels like a loss to me,” Sherman said. He went on to add, “I think it’s a good lesson for a young team that we needed. It’s a humbling lesson. Thank goodness we got the win out of it, but there’s a lot of good tape, a lot of good learning from this.” Thank goodness we got the win. There’s several reasons why. The first being the obvious momentum we need this season. It’s been a weird start to this season. After we lost to Minnesota, the overall sentiment was positive, it was a loss that felt like a win. However this week after we won, it felt like a loss, as Sherman said above. Second, there’s a stat that’s thrown around ever year after week two that indicates teams who start 0-2 have about a 12 percent chance of making the playoffs. We did not want to be under the statistical eight ball this early in the year. What I saw on Sunday was a team in flux. Jimmy Garoppolo went from gunslinger in Week 1, to a timid quarterback in Week 2. He held the ball for an extensive amount of time, and despite great offensive line play, the Detroit Lions still managed six sacks. Kyle Shanahan, to me, seemed all over the place with his play calling this week as well. At times, he mailed it in, simply calling a play just to call it. I saw him reacting to offensive failures versus challenging the Lions defense which was often reeling during the contest. At other times, he pushed the envelope with over the top formations and calls, when all we really needed was a solid play the team could execute effectively. In the clips below, I’m hoping to emulate film study on Monday with the team. I intend to point out some misses both from the quarterback position and from a coordinator perspective that could be worked on this week. It’s easy for us to look at these clips and say Kyle should’ve called this, or Jimmy should’ve thrown that. Especially with the slow motion option on the coaches film. I want this to be more of a running story line for this year, because this year has just begun and the team we see now should be a lot better and more consistent in the future. Let’s see if any of the things I noticed are improved upon next week. In our first clip, it’s the 3rd quarter with about five minutes left. It’s a key 3rd down and 6. We have Trent Taylor running an out at the bottom of the screen. The area is cleared out by Dante Pettis running a deep route. From the top of the field we have Pierre Gar莽on and George Kittle in a bunch, which creates a natural pick. In looking at the tape, I feel like Gar莽on was open more, however the pass to Taylor still could have been completed. It was unsuccessful because of ball placement. The out route should’ve been thrown to the far outside, instead it was too far inside allowing the defender to break up the pass. When I saw this play in the game I immediately said if that was a better corner, it would’ve been a pick six. Jimmy never seemed to scan the rest of his options on this play. This play also foreshadows a bigger play that we will look at later. After this play, we were forced to punt, and Detroit drove down the field and brought the game to within three points. If we converted there, we flip field position, and with a few more successful plays, possibly get into field goal range and extend the lead. Instead we ended up in a dog fight. In our next clips we get the ball back and this is where most teams get into their four minute drill. We have the ball and the lead, we want to basically run as much clock as possible. Here’s were I want to challenge Kyle to push the envelope. First thing, we lined up in a big body bunch set with one wide receiver, an obvious run formation. Second, Alfred Morris entered the game, while he’s a great downhill runner, Matt Breida at this point had over 100 yards rushing and didn’t get enough carries in the 4th quarter, especially when it mattered down the stretch. In fact, We ran the exact same running play two times in a row, in the same formation same direction. Despite those obvious keys, we gained four yards on first down, and four yards again on second down. Those clips are below. However on third down, we bring in Matt Breida and run him on a pass route. Why? Even the announcer Thom Brennaman was heard saying why are we passing when we’ve been running the ball down their throats for most of the game. And so, on 3rd and 2 to gain, this happens. There’s so many things to analyze with the play above. We went from super basic line ‘em up and smash ‘em football to putting our best running back in the slot to run a route. I felt like Kyle overthought this third down. I’m not the offensive mind he is, I have zero accolades, but he comes across sometimes as arrogant with his play calls. Simply calling a dive, or a stretch run with our running back wouldn’t show off his expertise enough. He wants everyone to know how great he is. Just my opinion. Also remember the clip above, Jimmy threw the out route too far inside, and stared down his receiver. This play is no different, he stares down Breida and fails to throw the ball to the outside, except this time it ends up an interception that almost cost us the game. Shanahan did have this to say about the play after the game:Thankfully, for lack of a better term, we kept the ball on the penalty, and we go back to the same formation and plays as before with Alfred Morris. By now however Detroit knows for sure that we’re here to run Fred Warner Jersey White , because of all the previous tells. It almost seemed like Kyle got gun shy as well. Out of all of his vast offensive expertise, he goes back to the same exact plays? Are there no other running plays in the playbook? It was just overall confusing to watch for me. We run the same play once to the left once to the right with limited gain. Putting us in 3rd and a long 8. I combined those plays into one clips below. Our last clip is another situation I have questions on. I could say Kyle is using the first few games to see what works what doesn’t, maybe seeing who excels in certain formations and who does not. So it’s now 3rd and a long 8, we need to convert, we also need to run some clock to prevent Matthew Stafford from dicing up our defense again to win the game. The formation is creative, but the personnel I don’t get. Kittle is by far our best receiver, and the Lions knew this, he was often doubled limiting him to two catches on the day. He did draw several penalties which kept drives going, including the pivotal defensive holding call that saved the game.In this formation though he stay in the backfield to pass block versus being a weapon on the play. In theory I can grasp the concept, as he actually occupies three defenders. The one he’s blocking, and the two defenders that would’ve covered him if he ran a route. Here’s the problem, he gets manhandled by the defensive end and pushed into the Jimmy’s lap, and then one of the defenders guarding him smartly realizes he’s blocking and blitzes. All was not lost however, as highlighted in the video, Jimmy hit his plant foot with no pressure, Pettis was open on the drag route, and would have at least had a chance to run for the line to gain, but Jimmy doesn’t throw it. Instead he gets sacked, and we are forced to punt. As Sherman was quoted above, there’s a lot of good tape from this game. There’s several teachable moments all throughout on both sides of the ball. I’m pretty sure some of the things we saw today, the team also saw on Monday and they plan to improve upon those things in Week 3. Kansas City’s defense isn’t as tough as Detroit’s so I would hope to see a similar offensive performance. In most instances if your offense puts up 30 points, you should win.I do want to see Kyle get less “cute” in the red zone (no more sprint reverses to Pettis) and instead keep feeding the running game. The Lions were lost because the play action worked to perfection with Breida tearing up the field. I want to see Jimmy continue to settle down and get comfortable in the offense. This weeks match up will be tough, but if we can slow down the Chiefs offense (easier said than done) we could pull this one out as well. Go Niners! “This is why you play the game!,” quarterback Nick Mullens yelled as he broke down the post-game cheer in the 49ers’ locker room. It was all smiles on the home side, as San Francisco finally break through without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, 34-3. It might not have been the Thursday Night Football showdown everyone was expecting, but it turned into a 49ers’ rout of their cross-town rivals. Never did I think that Shanahan and his third-string quarterback could run circles around a healthy, Jon Gruden-led Raiders’ team, but oh boy did it happen on Thursday.Shanahan’s group came out blistering hot on an opening touchdown drive and didn’t look back the rest of the way. Let’s take a look at the pre-game keys and see how the 49ers performed on a short week.1. Take the ball out of the 49ers’ quarterbacks hands and lean heavily on the running gameI figured that un-drafted free agent Nick Mullens would struggle in his debut, especially on a short week, under the lights in an extremely complicated offense. Subsequently, that meant running backs Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert would need to shoulder the load on offense.Boy, could I have not been more wrong. Mullens finished the night 16-of-22 for 262 yards, three touchdowns and a passer rating over 150 — the maximum score is 158.3, just saying. The 49ers’ ran 32 rushing plays, compared to 22 passing attempts, but the number is slightly skewed because San Francisco led by so much at the end of the game, forcing them to run the ball more.In the pivotal moments early, Shanahan put faith in his third-string quarterback and decided to let it fly against a poor Raiders’ pass defense. The 49ers definitely didn’t follow this key closely, but managed to easily win on Thursday night.2. Limit the Raiders’ most productive pass-catchers, TE Jared Cook and RB Jalen RichardRaiders’ quarterback Derek Carr has a lot of weapons at his disposal, but prefers to throw to large target tight end Jared Cook and shifty running back Jalen Richard. The 49ers haven’t been very effective in covering these two positions, due to multiple linebacker injuries, so it was an area of concern. In the absence of linebacker Reuben Foster, linebackers Fred Warner and Malcolm Smith stepped up, making numerous plays in the passing game to limit Carr’s favorite targets. Richard led the Raiders in catches with four for 45 yards, while Cook only had two catches for 20 yards. The 49ers’ linebackers did an outstanding job in coverage, limiting the yards after the catch. This allowed them to get off the field in key third-down situations.3. Don’t give Derek Carr extra chances against the 49ers’ defenseWith a third-string signal caller in for the 49ers, I was terrified of the potential turnovers on Thursday — but Mullens did a fantastic job protecting the ball.Unlike backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, Mullens tends to release the ball sooner, preventing defenders from creating a sack or strip fumble. The former Southern Missisippi quarterback was particularly accurate too, not allowing Raiders’ defensive backs a chance at interceptions.Fumbles have been another issue for the 49ers, but it’s something they didn’t allow on Thursday. With zero turnovers on Thursday, San Francisco employed its best defense against Carr and the Raiders — keeping the 49ers’ offense on the field. With the Giants up next on the schedule, will Mullens and Co. be able to string together two wins?
