  1. New York Giants safety Landon Collins was erroneously flagged for unnecessary roughness for a collision with Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess , according to Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network.Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was trying to fit a pass into Funchess between three Giants defenders. Funchess was bracketed by Michael Thomas, Janoris Jenkins and Collins, who was retreated toward the pass and lunging in an interception attempt when he collided with Funchess.Per Jones, the fact that Collins was trying to play the ball and the contact with Funchess was incidental meant that no penalty should have been called for the resulting collision.Collins’ shoulder hit Funchess in the side of the helmet and Funchess remained down after the play, which was immediately flagged by officials on the play. The Panthers would have faced a fourth-and-13 at the Giants 44-yard line with 14:09 remaining and while holding onto a 20-16 lead.Instead, the Panthers scored on a 18-yard pass from Newton to Christian McCaffrey five plays later and pushed their lead up to 27-16.Carolina ultimately won the game on a 63-yard field goal from Graham Gano as time expired. This week I spoke with Brandon Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation to get the inside scoop on what Eagle’s fans think about this weekend’s game. Take a look to see why they doubt this year’s match-up will be as close as last year’s and to read a whole lot of complaints about referees from a fanbase that won the Super Bowl last year.Cat Scratch Reader: This is not the Philadelphia Eagles team that rallied from Carson Wentz’s injury to finish last season with an impressive 13-3 record. What happened?Bleeding Green Nation: There are a number of reasons why the Eagles have taken a step back from last year. Those factors include, but aren’t necessarily limited to:Losing key assistant coaches (offensive coordinator Frank Reich, quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo)Losing key role players (Beau Allen, Trey Burton, Patrick Robinson , LeGarrette Blount)Natural regression to the mean (especially on third down and the red zone)Injuries Sustaining success in the NFL isn’t easy, as the perpetually back-and-forth Panthers know. The league has only seen ONE repeat Super Bowl winner in the salary cap era. The NFC East, meanwhile, hasn’t seen a back-to-back champion since 2004. But while the Eagles may not be in peak 2017 form, there’s still some positive carryover from last year. Carson Wentz is a prime example. The third-year quarterback has continued to play better with each passing game since he returned in Week 3. With Wentz playing so well, it’s hard not to have some level of optimism that this Eagles team can get back on track. They showed signs of being “back” with a blowout win over the Giants on Thursday Night Football. Now we’ll see if they can build on that success or if they managed to win just because New York is truly terrible. CSR: The Panthers have recovered suprisingly well from some big early injuries. How has the Eagles injury report looked this season?BGN: The Eagles have had to deal with a lot of injury issues. The most notable one was obviously Carson Wentz, who missed the first two games while still making his way back from his torn ACL. No. 1 wide receiver Alshon Jeffery wasn’t able to return until Week 4 after playing through a shoulder injury all last year and finally having surgery in the offseason.Starting defensive tackle Tim Jernigan suffered a herniated disc in some kind of offseason incident. He began the season on the reserve/non-football injury list and it’s unclear if/when he’ll return.Special teams ace Chris Maragos got hurt in last year’s Eagles-Panthers game and began this season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. It’s also unclear if/when he’ll return. Those are just the injuries that the Eagles were dealing with heading INTO the season. Add in the in-season injuries and the Eagles’ injured list now includes: starting running back Jay Ajayi, starting safety Rodney McLeod, starting wide receiver Mike Wallace, fourth wide receiver Mack Hollins Womens David Mayo Jersey , third tight end Richard Rodgers, and third defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao. A number of players have been banged up but not placed on IR. Darren Sproles, for example, has been out since Week 1 with a hamstring issue. Starting offensive tackles Jason Peters (torn biceps, quad) is playing through injury, as is starting right tackle Lane Johnson (high ankle sprain). Slot cornerback Sidney Jones is now expected to miss multiple weeks while sub-package contributor Corey Graham could also be out. Injuries have forced the Eagles to use players out of position. For example, the Eagles are starting Avonte Maddox at safety despite the fact he’s a fourth-round rookie who never played the position in his life until a few weeks ago. At defensive tackle, the Eagles are having to use Michael Bennett and Brandon Graham as interior players because Fletcher Cox and Treyvon Hester (who didn’t even join the team until September) are the only two full-time DTs on the roster. So, yeah. The Eagles have had to deal with a lot of injury issues. CSR: Wendell Smallwood seems to be getting most of the carries in Ajayi’s absence. Is he living up to the role of their number one running back?BGN: Wendell Smallwood is having a surprisingly good season. The 2016 fifth-round pick was hardly even considered a lock to make the 53-man roster as he was competing for a fourth running back job. But the Eagles kept him around and he’s proven his worth. He leads the team in rushing with 201 yards on 43 attempts for a 4.7 average. With that said, Smallwood does have his limitations. As evidenced by his longest run being a 15-yard gain Womens Devin Funchess Jersey , he’s not the most explosive backfield threat. Smallwood leaves too many yards on the field sometimes. He’ll have a big hole to work with and he just won’t get as much out of it as other backs would. Smallwood can also be a liability in pass protection; he’s really struggled with blitz pickups at times this year.Smallwood has been more effective than I thought he’d be but I hardly trust him as a full-time lead back. The Eagles need to get Corey Clement, who is hopefully recovered from a quad issue, more involved in the offense. Clement’s the better overall player. Getting Sproles back would also be ideal but he didn’t practice on Wednesday so he might not be back this week. CSR: The Eagles pass rush has been as frustrating as the Panthers this season. What will it take for them to get in gear against Carolina?BGN: The Eagles rank 18th in sacks per opponent pass attempt but that number doesn’t tell the whole story. According to Pro Football Focus the Eagles rank first overall in pressure rate. This pressure isn’t reflected with a high sack total because teams typically try to get the ball out really fast against Philadelphia’s defense. Despite this, the Eagles are still impacting the quarterback often. Jim Schwartz’s unit leads the league with 59 QB hits and rank third per game with 7.7. Last year, the Eagles sacked Cam Newton twice and hit him nine times. The pass rush also had a role in forcing the Panthers quarterback to throw three interceptions in that game. Fletcher Cox made life tough on Newton thanks to his ability to push the pocket. The Eagles will need another strong game from him in this one. CSR: What is your prediction for the game?BGN: I certainly don’t expect the Panthers to be a cake walk for the Eagles. Carolina is 28-17-1 against the spread (22-24 straight up) in games right after a loss since the Newton era began in 2011. That’s the fifth best rate in the league. The Panthers are also 21-14-0 against the spread (14-20-1 straight up) as road underdogs since 2011, which is the fourth best rate in the NFL.With that said, I feel good about the Eagles’ chances in this one. They’re coming off extra rest after blowing out the Giants — a team the Panthers struggled with — last Thursday. Philadelphia’s home field advantage is very real as they’re 17-3 in their last 20 meaningful games at Lincoln Financial Field. Then there’s the officiating factor. I can’t help but feel like last year’s Eagles-Panthers game wouldn’t have been so close if Pete Morelli’s crew wasn’t so terrible. The Eagles literally had to deal with a lopsided penalty disparity that was unprecedented. If history is any indication, the Eagles shouldn’t have to worry about the refs a ton in this game. Philadelphia is 9-1 when Clete Blakeman (Sunday’s referee) officiates their games. Under Blakeman’s crew, the Eagles have been penalized 56 times for 377 yards. Their opponents, meanwhile Womens James Bradberry Jersey , have been flagged 71 times for 588 yards. The Eagles have outscored their opponents by a total 327 to 193 in these games. That’s a 13.4 point average margin of victory. With Wentz looking sharp, the Eagles defense typically playing much better at home than on the road, and the bonus factors working in their favor, I’m taking the Eagles to win this one (shocker, I know). I’ll say the reigning Super Bowl champions win by a final score of 26 to 17.
  2. Bold Predictions: Ravens vs. Bengals Week 1 proved to be more of a primer than a challenge when Baltimore decimated the Buffalo Bills. But how will the Ravens fair in their first road test and divisional game? The Baltimore Beatdown staff forecasts how tonight’s edition of Thursday Night Football will shake out. Sage’s predictions:Only one member of the new receiver trio will score a touchdown. In a dominant performance over the Bills Cheap Maxx Williams Jersey , John Brown, Michael Crabtree and Willie Snead IV all scored in their debuts. However, on a short week against a divisional opponent on the road, only one of the new additions will have an encore performance in the end zone. The Baltimore defense gets far less pressure on the quarterback.Compared to an inexperienced Nathan Peterman, Andy Dalton will be much better at evading sacks. Expect the Ravens to fall significantly short of their six sack total against the Bills in Week 1. Janarion Grant shakes off his first game jitters. As an undrafted rookie, Grant displayed both flashes of brilliance with a 51-yard punt return and moments of ineptitude when he fumbled. With the nerves and anticipation of his first regular season appearance behind him, Grant will show more consistency as a returner in Cincinnati if his hand injury does not keep him off the field. Vasilis’ predictions:James Hurst will allow three sacks. The Bengals stable of potent pass rushers will attack an untested Hurst. Rookie Orlando Brown Jr. will become the starting right tackle sooner rather than later.Buck Allen will eclipse 100 yards from scrimmage. After Alex Collins’ fumble and Kenneth Dixon’s injury, Allen is in line for an increased workload. Buck will make the most of the opportunity and have a big impact in the short passing game.Tyler Eifert will record 10 catches. As the Ravens stack the box to shut down Cincinnati’s rushing attack, Eifert will serve as Andy Dalton’s outlet valve. Baltimore still does not have the personnel to effectively cover dynamic tight ends. Dustin’s predictions:Lamar Jackson scores a touchdown.Against the Bills Cheap Marlon Humphrey Jersey , we saw several different packages featuring Lamar Jackson. While none were particularly successful, opposing teams now know they must game plan for him now. Jackson will once again have a role in this game, and this time he will score a rushing touchdown in the red zone. A.J. Green will be shutdown. Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has given the Ravens fits for years. Ho wever, Green was virtually a non-factor in both games against Baltimore last season. This was in thanks to the excellent play from cornerbacks Jimmy Smith and Marlon Humphrey. Although Smith is currently suspended, Humphrey will once again step up to the task and limit Green to under 30 receiving yards.Joe Flacco will not throw an interception. Flacco started the season with a dominant performance over Buffalo last Sunday, throwing for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Flacco looks confident and poised in the pocket right now, which will be on full display against Cincinnati. Flacco’s decision making was impeccable in Week 1 and that will continue this week. While he will not throw for three touchdowns again, Flacco will protect the ball and manage the game well.Ravens vs. Bengals: Play of the Game In a key AFC North showdown, the Ravens comeback effort came up short against the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a great chance for Baltimore to make a statement on national television and place atop the division Cheap Justin Tucker Jersey , but they failed to capitalize. While not much went their way throughout the night, particularly in the first half, several highlight plays were produced by the Ravens offense. Check out all the best moments from Week 2 and vote for “Play of the Week!” below. John Brown 45-yard reception: Facing a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter, the Ravens desperately needed a spark and John Brown provided it. As they did last week, Brown and Flacco hooked up for another big passing play. The ball was slightly underthrown and nearly picked off by Bengals safety Jessie Bates, but Brown made a nice catch. Javorius Allen 1-yard Touchdown Run: Brown’s long reception put the Ravens in Bengals territory. A pass interference penalty on Bengals cornerback Darqueze Dennard set Baltimore up at the goal line, and Buck Allen punched it into the end zone. Not the most flashy score, but it put the Ravens on the board for the first time. Mark Andrews 1-yard touchdown reception: Another pass interference call on the Bengals set the Ravens up at the goal line. On 3rd & Goal, Flacco was chased out of the pocket by Carlos Dunlap but was able to find Mark Andrews in the end zone. Andrews made a nice catch Cheap Terrell Suggs Jersey , for his first career touchdown. His score gave the Ravens 14 points just before halftime. Alex Collins 24-yard Reception: For the second consecutive week, Collins had a relatively pedestrian rushing stat line. He was much more effective against the Bengals, however, showing the elusiveness and burst we saw from him last year. In the third quarter, he took a short pass and turned it into a big gain. Collins somehow managed to elude two tackles. He caught three passes for 55 yards on the night. John Brown 21-yard touchdown reception: Brown was the most productive Ravens receiver on Thursday night, and arguably their best offensive player overall. In the fourth quarter, he leaped over Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick to make an impressive touchdown grab. Kirkpatrick played good coverage, but Brown made a nice play on the ball and managed to keep his feet in bounds. It trimmed the Ravens deficit down to just five points.
  3. The Redskins took first place in the NFC East back after the Eagles briefly took the top spot by beating the hapless Giants on Thursday night. Beating the Panthers after get smashed by the Saints was almost expected at this point of our roller coaster season. The Redskins host the NFL’s only other true roller coaster team this week , the hated Dallas Cowboys. One of the W-L-W-L flip-floppers will break that pattern this week, and we’re all hoping it’s the good guys. The Redskins continue to confuse everyone this season with their hot/cold streak. The Panthers win moved them up in a lot of rankings, but their average has returned to their season high from two weeks ago. He sees a Hall of Fame quarterback, a leaky pass defense, and a very dangerous weapon in the backfield. Washington senior vice president Doug Williams insisted the team’s decision-makers were unified on the decision the claim linebacker/accused domestic violence committer Reuben Foster off waivers. But at the moment Cheap Josh Norman Jersey , he and coach Jay Gruden are the only ones being sent out to talk about it, and Williams isn’t doing himself any favors with the talking. After his name was on the initial statement from the team, Williams then appeared on The Team 980 yesterday to expound on the addition of the former first-rounder, who was arrested on domestic violence charges before the 49ers released him.Like coach Jay Gruden, Williams said the team knew there would be backlash. “Rightfully so,” he said.“I’ve got six daughters, so it ain’t something I would condone,” Williams said Cheap Derrius Guice Jersey , via John Keim of “But at the same time, I think we are in the business of at least looking into [Foster’s case]. I could sit here, and I won’t, name a bunch of teams that took on players that got a lot of baggage that nobody’s saying anything about.“You can’t get into nitpicking what they do and what you do. You gotta look at it from your standpoint. There was a lot of thought that went into it. It wasn’t just a spur of the moment type of thing. We all gathered, we talked about it, we knew there was going to be some risk-reward involved in it.”But just in case “other teams are doing it too” wasn’t enough of a defense, Williams broadened his scope in an effort to defend an unpopular position.“We got people who are in high, high Cheap Da'Ron Payne Jersey , high, high places that have done far worse, if you look at it realistically. And they’re still up there,” Williams said. “This is small potatoes [compared to] a lot of things out there. But at the same time, it’s a big issue in America today, whether or not it’s in football, whether or not it’s in everyday life, whether or not it’s in politics Youth Brandon Scherff Jersey , it’s out there.”At this point, what’s abundantly clear is that team president Bruce Allen is perfectly content to let his subordinates do the talking on this issue (since it’s clear owner Dan Snyder won’t), and that Williams isn’t making things better by saying more words about a topic the league clearly hasn’t wrapped its arms around.Ray Rice was made an example of after his domestic violence was caught on tape. Other players have been treated far differently, such as when the Giants extended kicker Josh Brown while knowing about charges against him, only to see him suspended for one game by the league (the NFL later circled back and made it six). Brown was later released and hasn’t played in the NFL again.Foster has apparently been deemed more valuable than a kicker, and Williams is willing to put his reputation on the line for someone accused of things he deemed “small potatoes.” And those words will likely stick to Williams, no matter how many daughters he has. 5. With Ryan Tannehill throwing again Cheap Mike Gesicki Jersey , Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase is not about to give up on the season.Tannehill has taken an encouraging step in his recovery from a shoulder injury. It's undetermined whether he'll play this week against the New York Jets , but Gase believes the best is yet to come for the Dolphins (4-4), even though they've lost three of their past four games."Now it's about who wins the second half of the season," Gase said Monday.Because he believes the Dolphins remain in the playoff mix, Gase said it's "highly unlikely" they'll be sellers at this week's NFL trade deadline. There has been speculation they're shopping DeVante Parker, but Gase said he expects the injury-prone receiver to remain with Miami. As for Tannehill, progress is coming slowly. He has missed the past three games, including Thursday's 42-23 loss at Houston."He's making steps where he's in a position where he can throw a football," Gase said. "We're gaining strength in that area. We'll se e more the next two days, when he does get a chance to throw, how sore he is the next day or how much power he feels like he has."Tannehill is expected to take part in the Dolphins' next practice Wednesday but may be limited, as was the case last week. If Tannehill is ruled out against the Jets, Brock Osweiler will make his fourth consecutive start.Tannehill has a reputation for playing through pain, and Gase acknowledged a concern his quarterback won't be candid about how his shoulder feels."I told him Cheap Jerome Baker Jersey , 'You have to be honest with me,'" Gase said." He understands if he gives me wrong information, that can make it worse. It's killing him, because he wants to do anything he can to help us. But at the same time we have to be smart. I don't want this to turn into, we try one week and get a huge setback, and it's worse than it was before."The Dolphins have lost their past two games with Osweiler starting, but defense was the primary culprit."We've got some things to fix," Gase said. "It hasn't really gone as we thought. We've got to make sure we get a lot of things corrected, make some adjustments, make sure we have the right guys on the field."A long weekend off gave the injury-plagued Dolphins time to mend. Along with Tannehill, receiver Kenny Stills (groin), tight end A.J. Derby (foot) and defensive end Charles Harris (calf) might return this week."I like where we're at right now," Gase said. "I like this group. I'd like to stay healthy from here on out — I don't think we have much more room for losing guys for the year. I think we've maxed out on that. But for the most part, I feel we have the right guys."The Splash Zone 8/18/18: Dolphins Lose To Panthers 27 - 20 Ryan Tannehill looked sharp last night Josh Sitton Jersey , but just couldn’t get anything going on offense. 6. Plays to Love Ryan Kalil Jersey , Plays to Hate (aka “P2L, P2H”) looks at the most significant plays in swinging momentum and impacting the eventual outcome of the game. There is always plenty to hate about NFL officiating, so we will only focus on the plays on the field, not the refs.Three plays to love2nd Quarter 15:00 – Panthers 7, Ravens 7. Ravens ball 2nd-and-4 at BLT 31 The Situation: The first quarter consisted of one long Ravens touchdown drive followed by one long Panthers touchdown drive and a 7-7 tie. Baltimore had just started its second drive with six-yard reception as the first quarter ended. The Play: Kyle Love came unblocked up the middle and drilled Alex Collins the moment he took the handoff. Love’s huge hit jarred the ball loose and Vernon Butler recovered the fumble at the Baltimore 12. Three plays later, Cam Newton hit Greg Olsen for a touchdown and a 14-7 Panthers lead.2nd Quarter 5:26 – Panthers 14, Ravens 7. Panthers ball 3rd-and-1 at BLT 45 The Situation: Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. The Play(s): Facing 3rd-and-1, Cam Newton was pressured on a pitch to D.J. Moore and the errant pitch hit Moore’s hand then bounced off the ground as a fumble. Fortunately for the Panthers, the ball popped right back up into Moore’s arms and he ran for 37-yard gain to the Baltimore 17. Two plays later, Cam threw a laser to Devin Funchess but a Ravens defender tipped the ball up in the air just past the line of scrimmage. Christian McCaffrey alertly adjusted his route, leaped in the air, and high-pointed the ball for a zany touchdown reception before any Ravens defenders could pick it off. This drive could’ve ended with a lost fumble or an interception, but instead the Panthers ended up with seven points. To quote Napoleon Dynamite, “Luckyyyyy!” 2nd Quarter 0:05 – Panthers 21, Ravens 7. Panthers ball 4th-and-7 at BLT 49 The Situation: This was bizarre, but effective. Instead of attempting a 62-yard field goal to end the first half, the Panthers took a delay of game. Taylor Heinicke was inserted at quarterback to attempt a Hail Mary because Cam’s shoulder wasn’t feeling up to making the long throw. The Play: The Ravens dropped multiple defenders into deep coverage leaving Greg Olsen wide open off the line. Here’s what Heinecke said happened next, “Greg was yelling at me while he was going out for the route. ‘Taylor! Taylor! Taylor!’ That’s all he was yelling as the ball was getting snapped.” Heinicke hit Olsen for an easy 13-yard gain to the Baltimore 36 with :02 left, setting up a successful 54-yard Graham Gano field goal and a 24-7 halftime lead.Three Two plays to hate1st Quarter 10:23 – Panthers 0 Authentic Graham Gano Jersey , Ravens 0. Ravens ball 2nd-and-14 at BLT 46 The Situation: The Ravens faced 2nd-and-14 from near midfield on the game’s opening drive. They picked up five yards to now face an apparent 3rd-and-9, but the refs threw a flag after the play had ended. The Play: Dontari Poe was called for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for apparently making contact with a Ravens player while Poe was on the sideline! He wasn’t even in the game! Instead of 3rd-and-9 from the Carolina 49, it was now 1st-and-10 from the Carolina 34. The Ravens ended up scoring a touchdown on this drive thanks in large part to Poe’s dumb penalty. 1st Quarter 7:57 – Panthers 0, Ravens 0. Ravens ball 2nd-and-10 at CAR 14 The Situation: The Ravens took the game’s opening possession on a long drive down to the Panthers 14. The Play: Alex Collins took a handoff up the middle. Eric Reid came untouched from the safety spot but allowed Collins to spin right out of his tackle and into the end zone for a touchdown. Thomas Davis fought off a block but whiffed on his tackle attempt as well. Better tackling by Reid and Davis would’ve forced a 3rd-and-4 instead of a Ravens score. Closing it out and summing it upMan, only two plays to hate and they were both in the first quarter. What a great game! Consistency is going to be the key for the 2018 Carolina Panthers. They can look absolutely awesome at times like they did this week against the Ravens and in last week’s second half against the Philadelphia Eagles. They can also look like a dumpster fire like they did against the New York GIants and against Washington. But at 5-2, the Panthers are rolling right now.D.J. Moore had the best game of his rookie season with five receptions (on six targets) for 90 yards with an additional 39 rushing yards on two carries. Cam Newton, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Week, was incredible yet again going 21-for-29 with 219 yards and two passing touchdowns, plus an additional 52 rushing yards and a score. Defensively, Donte Jackson is a stud in coverage and had a lightning-quick sack on Joe Flacco. Captain Munnerlyn made a nice play undercutting a route for an interception. I’m getting really worried about Dontari Poe, though. He’s made zero impact plays this year and I think I only heard his name called against the Ravens for the boneheaded penalty. On special teams, Michael Palardy pinned the Ravens once at the one yard line and another time at the eight. Graham Gano went 3-for-3, including a 54-yarder, to remain perfect on the season. These guys are flat out ballin’!At 5-2 the Panthers control their playoff destiny and with performances like this Carolina could make some serious noise in the postseason. There’s no nice way to say it. That’s the bottom line of how today’s 31-24 loss to the Falcons went. If the Panthers’ defense played a semi-competent game, the Panthers would be 2-0 right now. It’s unfortunate that it ended up this way, because the offense played well enough to win. It just wasn’t meant to be, it seems.Let’s dive into the winners and losers from today’s action.WinnersCam Newton: Newton had a great game today if you account for the fact that his receivers let him down multiple times by dropping perfectly thrown passes. He finished the day 32-of-45 passing for 335 yards with three touchdowns and one interception (that totally wasn’t his fault, but we’ll get to that later). Considering 14 of those receptions and 102 of those yards came from Christian McCaffrey, you can see that Newton would have probably left Atlanta with a win if his receivers would have been able to produce for him.Christian McCaffrey: As I mentioned previously, McCaffrey hauled in 14 receptions for 102 yards today and was a key factor in the Panthers moving the ball on offense. He lined up all over the field and made quality plays to keep the chains moving throughout the afternoon. It’s unfortunate that hardly anyone else stepped up, but if the Panthers can keep using McCaffrey like they did against the Falcons the offense has the potential to be dangerous this season.Jarius Wright: Wright grabbed five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown this afternoon, and he also picked up several key first downs for the Panthers to keep the chains moving. He is a key asset on third down and is one of the best free agent pickups the Panthers have made in a long time. The Panthers finally have their “go-to guy” on third down, and that will benefit the offense as the season progresses.D.J. Moore: Moore took his first career reception and turned it into an electrifying 51-yard touchdown reception that pulled the Panthers to within one score late in the fourth quarter. He almost hauled in the game-tying touchdown as time expired as well, but it just wasn’t meant to be. At any rate, we saw good things from Moore today and should continue to see them as he gets familiar with the speed of the NFL.Graham Gano: He buried a 54-yard field goal to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Yeah, that’s good enough to make the winner’s column today. Let that marinate for a few minutes.

Taking care of his 34-year-old body could allow Yanda to extend his career. Studs and Duds From the Ravens’ Week 2 Loss - Joe SchillerWith 136 yards, two scores and a 19.4-yard average per reception, John Brown has been the Ravens best offensive player through the first two games. The front office would be wise to offer a generous contract extension well before free agency begins. How Baltimore Ravens used Lamar Jackson in first 2 games -- and whether the plays worked - Aaron KasinitzThe coaching staff may find better results with their Lamar Jackson package if they remove Joe Flacco from the field. Lining either quarterback up at receiver has not created much deception.Take it to the Bank Ptokem.egc.ufsc.bodcastA complete review of the Week 2 loss in Cincinnati, along with forward-looking schematic and personnel suggestions. New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur is in charge of a bad team and a generally unproductive offense. The last thing he needs is a grumpy playmaker who bad-mouths teammates, but that's exactly what he has in Odell Beckham Jr.Still, Shurmur might want to reconsider imploring the media: "Let's talk football, not drama."Because the way things are going for the Giants at the moment, it actually might be better for him if the focus remains on the off-field stuff.Yet another loss on Sunday, 33-31 at the Carolina Panthers , dropped the Giants to 1-4. No one in the NFL has a worse record, and next up comes a game against the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions, even if they're only 2-3 themselves. The cause of all the fuss in the locker room in New York?An interview with ESPN in which Beckham managed to steamroll first-year coach Shurmur and quarterback Eli Manning.OBJ complained about New York's lack of big plays: "How come we don't attempt or try to throw the ball for more than 20 yards?" He criticized the team's heart and energy. Asked whether there were an issue at QB 鈥?an obvious chance to stand up for the much-criticized Manning 鈥?Beckham offered up a reply of, "I don't know."Give him points for honesty, at least. But not for leadership or maturity."I addressed it with Odell. I addressed it with our team. I publicly declared that I didn't agree with his comments," Shurmur said. Then he threw in a Shakespeare reference, saying: "I'm not going to give the public a pound of flesh on this. That would make me small, not strong."Moments later, Shurmur sent the reporters to go talk to Beckham himself.Anyone expecting a mea culpa was out of luck , because the receiver with the new $65 million in guaranteed contract money said he didn't regret a thing.Sure, he played well Sunday, with eight catches for 131 yards and a TD, plus a 57-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley. But he also was standing right there on the sideline while teammate Sterling Shepard threw a Beckhamesque tantrum filled with punches and a tossed trash can. Beckham's attitude rubbing off on teammates, maybe? That is not a good look for him 鈥?or for his coach. In case you missed it, here are other top topics after the NFL season's fifth Sunday:WAY TO GO, ROOKA week after they went a combined 0-4, the four rookie QB starters went 4-0; there hadn't been four rookie quarterbacks with W's in the same week since Week 16 of the 2012 season (Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill Tavon Young Jersey , Russell Wilson). Wasn't always pretty this time. Baker Mayfield was 25 for 43 for 342 yards, a TD and an INT as Cleveland got past Baltimore 12-9 in OT; Josh Allen went 10 for 19 for 82 yards and a pick and ran for a score as Buffalo edged Tennessee 13-12; Sam Darnold was 10 for 22 for 198 yards with three TDs and one INT in the Jets' 34-16 victory over Denver; Josh Rosen was 10 of 25 for 170 yards and a TD to help Arizona top San Francisco 28-16.CAN I KICK IT?On a day that Carolina's Graham Gano hit a 63-yard field goal to win a game, Green Bay's Mason Crosby was about as poor as a placekicker can be, missing five kicks 鈥?four field-goal tries and an extra point 鈥?in the Packers' 31-23 loss indoors at Detroit. So no wind. No chill. No precipitation. No nothing. And yet Crosby failed to connect from 38, 41, 42 and 56 yards on field-goal tries, plus a PAT that was no good. For those keeping score at home, that's a total of 13 points left on the table in a game his team lost by eight. "Just couldn't find the lines today," Crosby said. "Kept adjusting, and it wasn't going in."BIG MAN TD!Linval Joseph Terrell Suggs Jersey , Minnesota's 329-pound defensive lineman, earned himself a little extra oxygen by rumbling 64 yards for a touchdown after Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz coughed up the ball during the second quarter of the Vikings' 23-21 victory over the Eagles in a rematch of last season's NFC championship game. After his score, Joseph plopped himself down on the bench, threw on some shades and put a mask on so he could suck air.AP Sports Writer Steve Reed in Charlotte, N.C., and AP Pro Football Writer Josh Dubow in Santa Clara, Calif., contributed to this report.Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at ://HowardFendrich
  8. Redskins Vs. Patriots - Studs and Duds Colt McCoy - McCoy was accurate and looked in complete command of a simplified offense. He was 13/18 for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Maurice Harris - Harris ran good routes Authentic Da'Ron Payne Jersey , caught everything thrown his way (including a 4 yard TD), and even showed some punt return ability.Robert Davis - Had 3 receptions for 35 yards and showed excellent RAC ability and good speed in limited action. Cam Sims - Sims did not catch a ton of passes in college, but he showed the ability Thursday night to beat coverage, and was dangerous after the catch. he hauled in a beautiful long pass in the second quarter which he made some nice moves and took it down to the three yard line. Byron Marshall - Not a ton of touches, but he shows how explosive he can be as a receiver out of the backfield. he had a nice touchdown catch where he broke a tackle and beat the defender to the endzone. Samaje Perine - Looked quick and powerful, especially on some plays that were not blocked extremely well. One nice run was brought back on yet another Kalis penalty. He did have a fumble in traffic though, that was not called. Matt Ioannidis - Ioannidis was a beast in limited action last night against the Patriots. He couldn’t be blocked one-on-one, and was even a menace when he was double teamed. Shaun Dion Hamilton - Had some splash plays, but also made some rookie mistakes. One thing that stood out though - this kid is very athletic. He’s not afraid to fill a hole. He did get de-cleated by Hill on a blitz, and dropped his head at the goalline and missed a tackle that could have saved a TD.Besides that, he showed out in both run support and coverage. This kids going to be good! Danny Johnson - I thought the rookie from Southern played very well, albeit against a pretty bland Patriots offense. He showed to be very active in coverage, making plays a few passes, and was not afraid to stick his head in the middle of the action to make a tackle, or come up to set an edge. Kenny Ladler - This kid is not afraid to come up and hit you! He looks like he was shot out of a cannon! Good game by the former Canadian star. Duds:Kyle Kalis - Three penalties and some inside pressures given up - not a good night at all for the backup guard fighting for a roster spot. Tyler Catalina - gave up two pressures Authentic Adrian Peterson Jersey , and was not effective in the run game as a blocker. Geron Christian - Christian may have some potential for the future, but it was very clear Thursday night that he’s not yet ready for the speed of the NFL game. He struggled mightily when he was asked to block an edge rusher in space.John Kling - Sorry, but Kling is NOT an NFL offense tackle. He looked horrible, with extremely slow feet, against the Patriots reserves. Elijah Wellman - I counted at least three missed blocks - one on what should have been an easy blitz pick-up in the first quarter if he worked inside out like he’s taught. He also was called for holding on Guices’ long run. He did have a few catches out of the backfield, but it looks like our dream of keeping a true fullback may not happen. Ondre Pipkins - Just a HORRIBLE showing by Pipkins. He was unable to hold his ground in the run game. I counted a few times where he was driven 5 yards down field. It’s completely unacceptable to get driven 10 yards off the ball on third and short when the play in coming right at you! Fall the heck down...or something!Deshazor Everett - He did not play a ton in this game, but I counted two missed tackles where he seemed to just drop his head and lose sight of his target. Not a good showing for the veteran. Fish Smithson - Had a few missed tackles, and generally looked lost in coverage. It seemed to be easy to manipulate his position in coverage with a simple shoulder shrug. Notes:Zach Vigil - Maybe he’s just playing by the new rules, but I noticed a bunch of times he went low (and I mean VERY low - like around the ankles) on ball carriers, allowing them to fall forward for extra yards. Troy Apke - Had a nice pass defended from his deep safety position late in the second quarter on a 3rd down and long. He showed willingness in run support, with some ups and downs in tackling. Rob Kelley - It does look like the off-season weight loss paid off, as he looks much quicker this year.Matt Flanagan - He looked like the better option if the team does decide to keep a FB/H-Back.Casey Dunn - I thought Dunn played pretty well in reserve duty at center. he anchors very well when he gets his hands inside a defender. Jerod Fernandez - made some nice tackles, but also missed a few in space. You can see he’s more of a box player, as he looks very limited when matched up in space against a quicker player. Tim Settle - had some splash plays where he looked quicker than any player on the field at the snap of the ball. Then he had some plays where it looked like he was just going through the motions out there. Boy, you can see the potential though! He’ll need to be rotated quite frequently to keep him fresh. He did have a fumble recovery late in the game as well. To be honest , there was no way for Washington to come out any worse than they did in their outing against the New Orleans Saints. Forget the “Primetime” element of the football game that is secondary to the issue at hand; with a great opportunity that rarely comes for Washington, they flat out wet the bed. Whether or not one thought the Redskins were going to win or lose coming into the game, the last thing that would have been taken into consideration would be the minimal effort by the players and coaches. There are a few things that need to be brought to light and discussed after such a game.An ugly loss against the Saints exposed a Gruden tenure coaching flawOver the five years Washington has been led by Gruden, opportunities such as a chance to take an early two-game lead on the rest of the division, or compile a decent win streak early in the year come very seldom. However, this is what makes these games most memorable; the Gruden-led Redskins came out flat and unprepared. This was one of the worst outings his teams have shown in some time but the point of preparedness, or lack thereof, remains. Post-game Gruden stated that his team played poorly and it was a reflection on himself, and he is absolutely correct. The issue with Gruden acknowledging the lack of preparedness by him and his staff is a flaw that can prove to be fatal. The rate in which he has admitted this post-game after blown opportunities in big spots continues to grow. The Players have a flaw too - Urgency and Awareness of what is at stake is not presentGruden has his issues that only he can worry about; however, the players run into issues in big games consistently as well. The Saints offense could do anything they wanted against the Redskins defense, the execution by the Saints along with the Redskins effort, resulted in a brief second-half benching of cornerback Josh Norman. It was terrible; the Redskins had a better team on the field than 2017 heading into this Monday night matchup against the Saints and found a way to lose the game in the first two quarters. The Redskins offensive line could not handle the Saints defensive front or their blitzes, and neither could quarterback Alex Smith, who played poorly, to say the least. The Redskins have time in and time out no matter who was the coach , underperformed in spots to prove they are better than the perceived thoughts of them and Monday Night was no different. The defense is not ready to shoulder the load for this team yetComing into the game the Redskins had the first-ranked defense in the NFL in points and yards, and obviously due to the early bye week, it looked better than what they were. The Redskins defensive line was a staple of this defense, controlling the line of scrimmage and making it difficult on opposing quarterbacks to sit in the pocket with little concern. Their most significant test of the season to date was against the Saints and it was a gauge to see where they truly stood in the ranks of other NFL defensive fronts. They are not ready yet. Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, and Daron Payne did not have to dominate the entire game to prove how good they were. The trio is young; dominating a good offensive line an entire game should not be an expectation, however making a noticeable difference should be expected. That was not the case; they still have a ways to go before being considered a top defensive front, because there are offensive lines just as good as the Saints the Redskins will face this year. “Pressure Percentage” ratings are overratedFor those who have made excuses for the edge rushers not being able to get sacks to this point in the season, the Saints game showed why pressure percentage ratings are overrated. All the pressures in the world mean nothing if you are unable to get home to the quarterback, and last night was another example of why many need to see the production of Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith for what it is. Their impact is minimal, and it is a problem. Playing with leads is essential for the Redskins offenseAlex Smith is a good quarterback, no question about it, but he is also a limited quarterback. Smith is incapable of keeping up in a shootout or getting a team back into games if the lead is too big, and a 20-point first half deficit was proven to be too costly. Smith is a quarterback who works well with a productive running game and balanced offense overall. If the Redskins struggle to run the ball effectively and even protect Alex, which was the case Monday , the Washington offense will struggle. Overall, it just was not a good game for Alex, even when things were going well during drives, he looked flustered and was off on throws he was not pressured on. It is imperative that Washington continue to emphasize getting ahead early in games moving forward, trailing and getting behind in games will be a great challenge for this team.Do not overreact too much this week, the Saints are Super Bowl contenders and showed whyBefore the start of the season, I firmly believed the Saints would contend and come out of the NFC to play for the Super Bowl in our season prediction article. The Saints showed why they are a force to be reckoned with Monday night, an elite offense with great balance alongside a defense that has the capability of settling down and getting back to their 2017 form. The Redskins did not even face them at full-strength and still experienced how great of a team they are, especially with a leader as great as Brees. Do not overreact as many do after losses, and the Redskins are not as bad as they showed against the Saints. The bigger question is; wherever you saw them before the start of the game, are they truly as good as you thought they were? One thing is for sure; they are not on the level of New Orleans.
  9. Baltimore Ravens Hats , the Ravens are preparing to play their first home game since September 23rd. They will host the New Orleans Saints, who are coming off of their bye week. On the first day of practice this week, Baltimore only had four players absent and two limited participants.Alex Lewis (neck), John Brown (NIR), Eric Weddle (NIR), Brandon Carr (knee) were the only players who did not practice. However, Lewis was the only player who missed due to an injury. As like most weeks, Weddle, Carr, and Brown were given the day off to rest. The biggest concern is Lewis, who is reportedly day-to-day with a ‘pinched nerve’, according to head coach John Harbaugh. If Lewis is unable to play on Sunday, the Ravens will certainly have to switch up their offensive line.Rookie cornerback Anthony Averett returned to practice as a limited participant Baltimore Ravens Hoodie , which marked the first time since Week 3 that he has participated in any capacity. Averett may be buried on the cornerback depth chart with the return of Jimmy Smith, but he is still a valuable special teams player. In a game where not many analysts were picking the road team, the Baltimore Ravens shocked the masses with their stunning victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. After leading by as many as 14 points, the Ravens went into the half tied. All the momentum was leaning in favor of Pittsburgh, but like the previous three games, Baltimore’s defense tightened up in the second half. Below are six takeaways from the Ravens’ impressive 26-14 victory over the Steelers.1. Questionable coaching decisions did not haunt the RavensHead coach John Harbaugh has a reputation for being an overly aggressive coach, but that was not the case on Sunday night. After Pittsburgh had tied the game 14-14, Baltimore had a difficult decision to make. Fourth-and-inches on their 45-yard line, and uncharacteristically, Harbaugh punted the football. Given the way the momentum shifted, this may have been the incorrect decision. However, it was evident Baltimore wanted the second quarter to end as quick as possible, and this strategy worked well. The other questionable decision came late in the fourth quarter. The Ravens had a narrow six-point lead with the ball deep in Pittsburgh’s territory. There was a little under four minutes left Customized Baltimore Ravens Jerseys , and Baltimore opted to throw the ball on second and third down, which led to only 11 seconds being taken off the clock. This gave the Steelers extra time to attempt a comeback as they were down by nine points with three minutes and 37 seconds left. Fortunately for Baltimore, Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception. 2. Pay that man his moneyMuch of the talk regarding impending free agents has been centered around inside linebacker C.J. Mosley, but John Brown is proving to be worth much more than his one-year deal. Brown has been a shining star through four games, and he could command a hefty price on the open market following this season. He was a huge factor in Sunday night’s victory as he stretched the field and made a couple of big-time receptions, including a 71-yard catch. 3. Let’s get trickyAfter Baltimore’s collapse in week two against the Bengals, Marty Mornhinweg has dialed up two ‘masterful’ game plans. Last week, he completely took away Von Miller. On Sunday night, Mornhinweg utilized a variety of unique play designs and aggressive concepts to allow his playmakers to get open. The play of the night was the trick play involving an unbalanced line, where Maxx Williams was lined up next to Matt Skura. Williams, because he was lined up off the line of scrimmage, was an eligible receiver, and he was wide open to pick up the first down. It was a great night for the offense as they totaled 26 points Authentic Mark Andrews Jersey , but they also left points on the board. Alex Collins fumbled the ball in the red zone, while Flacco was unable to connect with Michael Crabtree on a play where he would have likely scored. 4. Bend, but don’t breakBaltimore’s defense was dominant for much of the game, specifically in the second half. Remarkably, they have not allowed a touchdown in the final two-quarters of any game in the 2018 regular season. Don Martindale’s ability to adjust and shut down opposing offenses has been remarkable. The pass rush was not as active as Wink would have hoped, but the secondary played well. The Steelers did not have a receiver break the 70-yard mark, while they totaled less than 20 total rushing yards. 5. Don’t forget about meBrandon Carr will likely lose his starting spot next week as Jimmy Smith will return from his four-game suspension. However, Carr was spectacular under the bright lights. He recorded two pass breakups, but his performance was much better than the stats may suggest. Carr is a savvy veteran, who displayed great patience on several plays, including a clutch end zone pass breakup on JuJu Smith-Schuster. Baltimore’s general manager Ozzie Newsome made it his mission in the offseason to improve the wide receiver room. He signed three veteran free agents, and John Brown has been the biggest difference maker. Due to his big-play ability, Brown has received a majority of the attention Authentic Maurice Canady Jersey , but Willie Snead has made several clutch plays through the first four games of the season. Snead’s ability to work from the slot and beat man-coverage has been a key part of Baltimore’s success, specifically on third down. 6. This might be a different Joe FlaccoThroughout training camp and the preseason, Flacco has looked like a man on a mission. Whether it was the team selecting Lamar Jackson in the first round or not, he is a different quarterback this season. Although he struggled against the Bengals, Flacco has put together one of his best four-game stretches in recent memory. If he continues this pace, he will hit the 5,000 yard mark for the first time in his career and the 4,000 yard mark for only the second time. Flacco’s decision-making has dramatically improved, and he is spreading the ball around as a total of 11 different players caught passes on Sunday night.
