  1. It’s time for Vance Joseph to take control of the Denver Broncos One preseason game does not a season make Authentic Phillip Lindsay Jersey , but let’s be real. On the heels of two sub-par seasons, Saturday night’s Minnesota Vikings vs. Denver Broncos game was downright frightening. Last year, I railed against Broncos head coach Vance Joseph for not taking the reigns of the team forcefully enough. Poor play from Trevor Siemian, Isaiah McKenzie, and others was allowed to fester and persist long after identified. It was too little too late and by the time changes were made, the impacts negligible because the season was already a total loss. What was so frustrating on Saturday night was that despite reports of running back Devontae Booker and quarterback Paxton Lynch struggling in training camp, they were given nods to start over the fresh young talent that could benefit and thrive with the reps. There was no good reason to allow Booker to start over Royce Freeman. We already know what it looks like with Paxton under center. Didn’t Broncos fans suffer enough last year? Why is Denver starting 2018 by looking back fondly at 2017’s failures? Why isn’t Vance Joseph using these valuable preseason games to try new things? “If I know they’re bad, the other team obviously knows. Why Vance Joseph doesn’t seem to know is a mystery. We need him to stop being the last one to find these things out.”My father relayed these thoughts to me when we did our usual post-game debrief. I don’t believe that Joseph doesn’t know. He’s got a staff, hours of video, and mountains of other evidence that tells him what all of us already know. Heck, Mile High Report has all the information he needs and it doesn’t cost him a dime. I think it’s more complex. On the latest MHR Radio Podcast, Adam Malnati and Ian St. Clairshared their thoughts on Joseph. They’re thinking: If you had prior concerns about Joseph, he did nothing to alleviate those on Saturday night. It appears that Joseph affords under-performing players second, third, and fourth chances so he can justify (to himself? Elway? The individual players?) whatever it is he’s ultimately going to do with them. There’s a consistent pattern of allowing sub-par play to continue and this justification is the only thing I can reason as to why. While Joseph may be able to point his finger at the failure of these players, ultimately it’s on him. If the Broncos have any hope of success this season, Vance needs to grab the Broncos by the guts going forward. He needs to make bold decisions that show every player in that locker room that lackluster play won’t be tolerated. Bench guys, cut guys, give promising talent the opportunity to flourish. Don’t squander the preseason by playing the same people in positions that landed Denver a 5-11 season. If Vance does the same things, the results at season’s end will be the same as it was last year. He needs to find his voice and light some fires or it’s going to be a long season.HORSE TRACKSBroncos fans are already booing former first-rounder Paxton Lynch, chanting for Chad Kelly - CBSSports.comLynch appears to be in danger of losing his grip on the backup quarterback jobChicago Bears: Looking ahead to preseason game vs. BroncosFollowing the Chicago Bears' second preseason game, we take a look ahead at what to expect in their third exhibition matchup with the Denver Broncos.Broncos Staff Helps Fans During Debut Of Paperless Ticketing System 芦 CBS DenverPaper tickets are now a thing of the past, as the Broncos have transitioned to a mobile ticketing system of entry.Woody Paige: Denver Broncos produced good , bad, and Paxton Lynch | Sports Coverage | gazette.comDENVER 鈥?For three quarters Saturday night the Broncos looked inexcusably abysmal — as they were last season — against the Vikings in a throwaway exhibition at The Horse WithMcKenzie rebounds with return touchdown but knows his battle to make the roster remainsIsaiah McKenzie's electrifying 78-yard touchdown on a punt return offered perhaps a little redemption after a rough 2017 season, but he knows he's not out of the woods yet.Broncos claim tackle Austin Fleer off waiversThe Broncos waived an offensive lineman in a corresponding move.Three Broncos quarterbacks look to build on foundation after varying degrees of successCase Keenum, Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly achieved different levels of success on Saturday against the Vikings, but all three have room to improve.Eagles sign former second-round pick Christian Hackenberg, who's yet to play in NFL game - CBSSports.comYet another team is taking a chance on Hackenberg, who's never played in a regular-season gameRedskins and Jets brawl during joint practice, fans reportedly get in a fight of their own - CBSSports.comIt was a rowdy day at the Jets-Redskins' joint practice on SundayJaguars reportedly suspend Jalen Ramsey, Dante Fowler one week for violating team rules - CBSSports.comRamsey attacked media on Twitter while Fowler was involved in practice altercations with a teammateMiami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill throws rookie out of huddle for missed assignmentDolphins QB Ryan Tannehill yelled at rookie Kalen Ballage and kicked him out of the huddle after the running back missed a blocking assignment that resulted in a clean sack by Charles Harris.NFL must rewrite the new helmet rule, now – ProFootballTalkThe new helmet rules continue to be applied as written. 2. The injury report for the Seattle Seahawks’ pivotal Week 5 showdown with the Los Angeles Rams isn’t littered with names Kam Chancellor Jersey , but for an injury-riddled defense, it almost seems like a cruel joke that the team’s best pass-rusher is questionable not because of injury, but food poisoning. Seriously.Frank Clark is expected to play according to head coach Pete Carroll. He has missed the last two practices due to food poisoning, although he didn’t go into detail on what Clark ate that rendered him ill. Clark says he’s playing, though! The other name listed as “questionable” is left guard Ethan Pocic, who has been battling an ankle injury. Even if he is available on Sunday, J.R. Sweezy has taken his spot at left guard, so Pocic would just be a reserve. Two men who are confirmed out are linebacker K.J. Wright and defensive lineman Rasheem Green. Wright is still dealing with a knee problem, while Green has one of those “legit” ankle injuries that one can only assume means he’ll be out for a bit longer. With Wright out and Mychal Kendricks suspended, expect Austin Calitro to get the start alongside fellow linebackers Barkevious Mingo and Bobby Wagner.Everyone else who’s on the active roster should be good to go Authentic K.J. Wright Jersey , although we know a few will be healthy scratches come gameday.Pete Carroll provides injury updates ahead of Seahawks-Vikings Speaking to the media for the final time before the Seattle Seahawks face the Minnesota Vikings in the third week of the preseason, Pete Carroll provided updates on various players across the roster.Carroll confirmed what is generally assumed about the third preseason game: The starters will play into the third quarter in what is their biggest run out of August. A handful of other notes from Carroll’s presser on Thursday are of interest:After stating last week, ahead of Seahawks-Chargers, that they “Were going to give it another week” with Amara Darboh’s return from injury, Carroll essentially said the same on Thursday. Darboh is expected back for next week’s game against the Oakland Raiders, in what would be his first action of the preseason. Carroll confirmed Adam Schefter’s reported timeline for J.D. McKissic, who is set to miss 4-6 weeks with a Jones’ fracture in his foot. With McKissic out, David Moore is expected to get some action as a returner against Minnesota.Bradley McDougald will miss Friday’s game with a pectoral injury he picked up this week. Both Maurice Alexander and Delano Hill should benefit from McDougald’s absence. Elsewhere in the secondary, Byron Maxwell remains sidelined, giving Dontae Johnson a second opportunity to get reps with the first team as he makes a late roster push. J.R. Sweezy will also be out for Seattle’s matchup against the Vikings Youth Bobby Wagner Jersey , however when he returns, it will be in a new spot. Sweezy moved to left guard this week in his return to practice, competing with Ethan Pocic for the starting spot. D.J. Fluker, well established as the starter on the right, will play on Friday after suffering a finger injury in Los Angeles. Finally, George Fant will play at right tackle against Minnesota. Offensive line coach Mike Solari said earlier in August the plan was to move him over eventually, and this week Fant began getting reps on the right. The next time Carroll is set to speak to the media is Friday night, following the team’s game against the Vikings.
  3. When the Jets signed cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a five-year Jamal Adams Jersey , $72 million contract this offseason, the thought was he should come in and immediately improve the Jets’ defense. In a sense, he did, as he intercepted a pass in Week One. But since then, the results have not been pretty.Johnson has been profoundly disappointing to people inside the organization, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who quotes one source as saying, 鈥淭hought he鈥檇 be better.鈥滻n fact, since that solid performance in Week One, the Jets’ defense has actually played better during the five games Johnson missed when he was injured. Many league observers believe Darryl Roberts, the minimum-salary backup who was starting while Johnson was hurt , has actually played better than Johnson this season. That’s despite the fact that Johnson will pocket $26 million in salary and bonuses in his first year with the Jets, while Roberts makes less than $1 million.Johnson returned to the lineup on Sunday, moving Roberts to the bench, and the Jets promptly turned in their worst defensive performance of the season. The 28-year-old Johnson looks like he’s not as good a fit in coach Todd Bowles’ defense as he was with what the Rams were asking him to do. That’s always a risk with a free-agent signing, that a player earns a big contract because he plays well in one situation, but doesn’t play well in the next situation.Bowles is likely to be fired after this season, which means it’s going to be some other coach trying to get the most out of Johnson next year. Whoever that coach is, they’d better get the most out of Johnson. He’s set to cost $12 million against the Jets’ salary cap in 2019 and $15 million in 2020, and the way his contract is structured makes it virtually impossible for the Jets to move on from him until then. He still has time to get things turned around, but through his first half season with the Jets, he’s looking like an expensive mistake. The New York Jets have filled two open spots on the practice squad by signing wide receiver J.J. Jones and center Jon Toth.J.J. Jones is a 25 year old (turns 26 in December) 5’ 10” Color Rush Brandon Copeland Jersey , 175 pound wide receiver. He went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft and was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. In three games with the Chargers Jones managed the unlikely feat of having zero receptions, one rushing attempt, and two fumbles. He returned five punts for 24 yards and a 4.8 yard average, as well as three kicks for 69 yards and a 23 yard average. It’s a bit difficult to understand what NFL teams see in Jones. He was never a dominant or even a mildly productive receiver at West Georgia. His best year he had 24 receptions for 278 yards. He had some success as a returner, but was by no means dominant. Jones has some straight line speed and some lateral quickness, so perhaps he can make something of himself as a returner and backup slot receiver. You can check out his college highlights, such as they are, in this Youtube video:Jon Toth is a 24 year old, 6’ 5”, 307 pound center out of the University of Kentucky. Toth is a powerful blocker but a middling athlete with heavy feet and little lateral quickness who struggles in space. He went undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft and was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles to the practice squad in December 2017. Toth spent the 2018 preseason with the Eagles before being cut on final cutdown day. The Eagles re-signed Toth to their 2018 practice squad before releasing him in late September.
  4. NFL Picks: Week 2 of the 2018 NFL Regular Season Last week Womens Customized Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys , everyone managed to pick at least half of the games correctly, but only two members of the staff cracked double digits. I managed to get 10 out of 16 right, but it was Lou Gorini, the only man on staff to pick against the Chargers, who came out on top with 11.This week, nobody will be making up ground based on the Chargers-Bills contest because this time we are all in agreement. The Los Angeles Chargers will get their first win of the season against the Josh Allen-led Bills. There are two other games in which we all felt the same. The Redskins will defeat the Colts and the Rams will beat the Cardinals. All three of those are pretty safe picks, but it will be interesting to watch as we all had the Saints winning against Tampa Bay last week.MatchupColeIsaacStanleyRichardGrantDanielMichaelGarrettRubenLouJamie.align-l { text-align: left; }.align-c { text-align: center; }.align-r { text-align: right; } { width: 100%; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px;} td, th { vertical-align: top; }table.bftb-table { width: 100%; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px; }table.bftb-table td, table.bftb-table th, table.bftb-table p { font-size: 13px; padding: 4px; font-family: "Gotham Narrow SSm A","Gotham Narrow SSm B",Arial,sans-serif; }table.bftb-table thead th { background-color: #3f77b0; font-weight: bold; color: white; text-align: center; }table.bftb-table tbody tr:nth-child(odd) td, table.bftb-table tbody tr:nth-child(odd) th { background: #f4f4f4; }table.bftb-table tbody tr td:first-child { text-align: left; }table.bftb-table tbody th { font-weight: bold; text-align: left; }table.bftb-table td { text-align: center; }table.bftb-table tfoot td, table.bftb-table tfoot th { border-top: 2px double #ccc; }.muted { font-weight: normal; color: #777; } The Los Angeles Chargers aren't ready to say farewell to Antonio Gates after all.Four months after the Chargers bade a public goodbye to the leading receiver in franchise history, Gates returned to the team on Sunday, one week before the start of his 16th season. The 38-year-old franchise stalwart is getting a one-year deal and another shot at his first trip to a Super Bowl. The Chargers intended to part ways with Gates last spring after his role declined behind starting tight end Hunter Henry in 2017. Their plans changed when Henry tore a knee ligament during offseason workouts in May Authentic Derwin James Jersey , likely sidelining him for the upcoming season.Although they've been discussing a reunion for many weeks, Gates and the Chargers waited until the day before the first week of game preparation for the regular season to formalize his return to his only NFL team. Gates' 114 career touchdown catches are sixth in NFL history and the most among active players."I'm grateful that he wants to come back and play with us," Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said. "But I'm also grateful he's coming back for all the right reasons. He's not coming back to put up more statistics. He's not coming back to prove anything to anybody, because he doesn't have to do that. He's coming back because he loves his teammates, and I think he sees something special in this football team that he wants to be a part of, and that's exciting."The Chargers are a popular pick to be a playoff contender after winning nine of their final 12 games last season. Gates and the Chargers have made the postseason just once since 2009.Telesco wouldn't say whether he expects Gates to play when the Chargers open the regular season at home against the Chiefs on Sept. 9."I guess we'll see," Telesco said. "I certainly wouldn't want to tell Kansas City."Once an undrafted free agent who played only basketball at Kent State, Gates is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and the Chargers' career leader in receptions (927), yards receiving (11,508) and touchdown catches. He set the NFL record for touchdown receptions by a tight end last September, surpassing Tony Gonzalez with his 112th TD catch. But Gates' 30 receptions last season were his fewest since his rookie year in 2003, and his 316 yards receiving were a career low as Henry took the majority of the big snaps. Gates started only four games, but he stepped up capably into a larger role when Henry was out with a bruised kidney late last season. The Chargers spent the past four months with a clear need for a pass-catching tight end. Newcomer Virgil Green is a veteran blocking tight end with pass-catching ability, but the only other tight end on Los Angeles' 53-man roster Sunday was undrafted second-year pro Sean Culkin, who has never caught a pass in an NFL game."I guess we're very lucky to have a player like Hunter get hurt and have a player like Antonio available and willing," Telesco said. "He knows the offense. He knows the quarterback. He knows our head coach. He knows this organization very well, and he finished the year on a strong note last year."Gates has a profound connection with Philip Rivers , who joined the Chargers in 2004 and has been their starting quarterback in every game since 2006. Rivers has thrown 87 touchdown passes to Gates, and they trail only Indianapolis' Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison as the most prolific TD duo in NFL history.Rivers publicly advocated for Gates' return in recent months, and Gates will be another solid target in the Chargers' potent offense, which led the NFL with 276.9 yards passing per game last season. With Gates back in powder blue, Rivers' top eight receivers from last season are still with the Bolts. The Chargers made several additional moves Sunday, a day after setting their roster and choosing Caleb Sturgis as their new kicker.Los Angeles released linebacker Hayes Pullard, who played extensively last year, and quarterback Cardale Jones. Telesco said the Bolts hope to re-sign Jones to the practice squad as their third quarterback behind Rivers and Geno Smith.Los Angeles claimed linebacker Emmanuel Ellerbee off waivers from Atlanta and nose tackle T.Y. McGill off waivers from Kansas City. Telesco believes Ellerbee can fit in well with the Chargers after learning the Falcons' defense of coach Dan Quinn, whose scheme is derived from the system run by Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley when they both coached on Pete Carroll's staff in Seattle.Telesco also lamented the season-ending ankle injury of receiver Artavis Scott, who spent last season as a rookie on the Chargers' practice squad after winning a national title at Clemson alongside receiver Mike Williams, the Chargers' first-round pick last year."He had earned a spot on this team and had done a great job," Telesco said. "Last year at this time, we thought he could play, but this time, we know he can play." Custom Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys
  5. It’s no secret the Broncos run defense has struggled the last few weeks. Naturally Authentic Von Miller Jersey , when you give up two back-to-back 200 yard rushers, something is going terribly wrong. I have discussed some of the things that have gone wrong in my game recap from week 6, and we will get more in-depth over the next week on what was going on, but Thursday night’s game was a step in the right direction. The Broncos held David Johnson, a very talented and dynamic back, to 39 yards on 14 carries, and held the Cardinals backfield as a whole to 2.5 YPC on 19 carries. Now, the Cardinals don’t exactly have an incredible rushing attack, but neither did the Jets. Isaiah Crowell entered his contest with Denver with a couple of 30 yard, 3 YPC games under his belt. So this was definitely a positive for the Denver defense. So what was it that Denver did?First, let’s look at where Denver was getting beat on the ground. As I pointed out in my recap of the Jets game, and saw after watching the Rams film, the biggest problem Denver had over the last few weeks in run defense was with adjusting their run fits to shifts and motions, poor tackling, and their nickel defense being exploited.Well, they shored up their tackling, which, as I have said, is a completely fixable problem and isn’t typical of this Denver defense who led the league in YPC given up on the ground last year. The bigger issue against the Jets and Rams was Denver’s nickel defense being exploited. The biggest plays of the Jets game happened against nickel personnel Authentic Matt Paradis Jersey , and nearly every Rams play did, as they stay in 11 personnel (3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB) for 95% of their plays. Those two teams would spread out with 11 personnel, which forced Denver to counter with 3 corners, putting them in nickel and taking away a defensive lineman from their front. This, by design, gives the offense light boxes to run against and makes stopping the run that much harder for the defense.Vance Joseph mentioned this when asked about the run defense last week leading up to Thursday’s game: So, we recognize this is a problem, but what can be done about it? There are a couple of things that Denver has done in the past that have worked well. They both involve playing your base defensive front 7 even against 11 personnel. In 2015, Wade Phillips orchestrated the destruction of the Packers in a game that saw them gain 140 total yards by running a base front against Green Bay’s 11 personnel, but swapping Bradley Roby out for one of the safeties. So you are still able to matchup man to man with the WRs, but have a better front to stop the run.The other option is one that Joe Woods used last year, and what Denver used on Thursday. For the entire game, Denver stayed in their base defense on non-3rd and longs against any 11 personnel look the Cardinals showed. How they covered it, was by shifting Justin Simmons into the slot over Larry Fitzgerald. Woods used this last year against Miami as well, and Simmons fared pretty well against Jarvis Landry in the slot most of the game. Here’s the first play from 11 personnel of the game. Simmons starts out in a two-high look, then slowly walks down into the slot, and Denver switches to a cover-1 look. This is a great move by Joe Woods , in my opinion, and something I had been calling for in the MHR chat room after the Rams game. Tim mentioned this in a piece last week as one of the options for helping the run defense. This allowed Denver to play with favorable fronts against the run, while also defending the pass pretty well. Simmons allowed only 2 catches for 18 yards to Fitzgerald when matched up against him. Here’s what happens as a result. You get plays like this. Here’s another one.And Denver didn’t just run cover-1 out of this look and have Simmons man to man on the slot. At times, they would drop into a cover-4 shell, so it wouldn’t get predictable for Arizona. Now, will this work against every team? I don’t think so. However, I think it is something Denver should utilize more, as Simmons has shown good cover skills from the slot, and it has proven to be an effective strategy. We’ll take a deeper dive later this week into the run defense, so consider this part 1, but it is nice to see adjustments being made to fix glaring weaknesses, and those adjustments working.Another thing I would love to see is swapping out Brandon Marshall with Su’a Cravens once he is healthy. This would give a little bit more of a dynamic cover element, while still maintaining the extra defensive lineman for the run. Hopefully there’s more to come on this package over the next few games. After days of pressers in which Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph promised changes would be made to stop the losing skid, today’s practice revealed at least one.Bench the starting QB? Overhaul the plays used from the playbook? Give Royce Freeman double the touches?Nope.Give Max Garcia a chance to compete with Connor McGovern for the starting right guard position - as reported by 9News’ Mike Klis. That would be the same Connor McGovern who is, according to Pro Football Focus, the third-highest ranked guard through the first five games this season (ironically, the first two play for the L.A. Rams). It’s true McGovern did not have a great game against the Jets, but it would be pretty tough to argue he was the main problem with the offense that day.Because obviously THAT’s what has been wrong with this team the last three games. On Sunday Garcia could be responsible for blocking Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Donald - two of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL.So that’s good news.
  6. 7 things we learned about the 2018 Seahawks during the preseason The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their 2018 preseason campaign on Thursday night Youth Will Dissly Jersey , finishing August winless after dropping the finale 30-19. More than wins, losses or gawking at a rookie punter, the preseason is about evaluating players. For the Seahawks, those evaluations are complete, and news of roster cuts will arrive over the course of the next 24 hours, ahead of the 1 pm deadline on Saturday afternoon. Looking past the roster decisions looming over Seattle, there was plenty to learn about the 2018 Seahawks over the course of the preseason. Mike Davis won the third down back competition At the beginning of training camp, Mike Davis was viewed as a relative long-shot. C.J. Prosise was almost certainly assured a roster spot, given his talent, cost and draft position, while J.D. McKissic provided excellent insurance if Prosise were to suffer another injury.Instead, it was McKissic who went down. And following his injury, it was Davis, not Prosise, who stepped up. As early as the second preseason game -- Prosise’s first -- Davis saw the majority of passing down snaps with the starters. Seattle used him in a variety of ways, splitting him out wide, keeping him in to block, sending him into the flats or simply handing the ball off. Davis’s run with the starters came as Prosise was covering kickoffs in the fourth quarter. By the end of the preseason, Davis had established himself as the Seahawks’ passing down back. He out-snapped Prosise, 78-62 , and outproduced him on the ground and through the air. Despite starting camp as the fifth or even sixth back on the depth chart, Davis should play a key role in Seattle’s offense to start the season. The 3 deep returners will be skill position playersOne of the more curious story lines before any football was played was how teams were going to handle the new kickoff rule. The new rule limits the receiving team on kickoffs to just three players deeper than mid-field — the remaining eight must be within 15 yards of the ball. Special teams coordinator Brian Schneider wondered how teams would handle the new rule, saying:As Schneider said, preseason told us everything we needed to know. The Seahawks stuck with three skill position players as the deep returners throughout the preseason. Most recently, David Moore was given reps on punts and kickoffs, in an effort to get him comfortable fielding them. Against the Denver Broncos, expect Tyler Lockett to line up as the deepest returner, with two of Rashaad Penny, Chris Carson or Moore ahead of him. Shaquem Griffin is going to push K.J. WrightA knee injury to Wright has Griffin in line to start the opener against the Broncos, and it may give the front office an early chance to begin considering Wright’s future. A free agent after this season, Wright would likely command an annual salary in the $7-9M range on a third contract. As terrific as Wright has been throughout his career, Seattle has to save money where they can. Griffin has been terrific on defense throughout the preseason, flying sideline-to-sideline looking every bit the instinctive, fast linebacker he was at UCF. Set to count less than $650k towards the cap in 2019, if Griffin appears ready to start in an NFL defense during his short run with the starters to begin the 2018 season, he could be a full-time starter come 2019. It’s Germain Ifedi’s job in 2018Just prior to the third preseason game, Pete Carroll allowed for some excitement to build, as he declared “The competition is on,” regarding George Fant’s switch to right tackle. Since then, the competition has all but turned off. Jamarco Jones’ injury in the first week of the preseason hurt the Seahawks’ depth significantly Bradley McDougald Jersey , and it will hurt their flexibility throughout the year. By the preseason finale, Fant was back on the left for the majority of the game, after Isaiah Battle struggled mightily. Between injuries and a lack of depth, Seattle’s tackle situation looks to have sorted itself out. Duane Brown will start on the left and Ifedi on the right, while Fant will be restricted to a reserve role. Just 10 days ago, the right tackle competition was beginning and now, there doesn’t appear to be any competition at all. Rasheem Green is ready to contributeWhen Green was selected in the third round of this year’s draft, he was viewed as a natural replacement for Michael Bennett. However, Green’s lack of technical ability and functional strength made him more of a developmental prospect than a day one contributor. As early as the first week of preseason, Green displayed promising growth in his game. During a productive preseason, Green won with hand usage, power and even held up against the run. There were snaps were he looked closer to the player he was at ‘SC, but overall, Green appeared to have grown his game considerably over the course of a couple months.Injuries will force Green into the rotation earlier than anticipated, but his preseason indicates he is more than ready to do so. Lining up both on the edge and inside, Green will get a chance to carry his production and performance into the regular season. The Seahawks are going to lean on their SAM linebackersBarkevious Mingo’s signing in March signaled the return of a skill set that has been missing since Bruce Irvin’s departure. A SAM ‘backer in base, Mingo, like Irvin, is a natural pass rusher capable of coming off the edge on passing downs. With a depleted group of edge rushers to begin the 2018 season, Mingo will be rushing the passer regularly. Both Mingo and rookie Jacob Martin played a considerable amount of snaps on the line of scrimmage in August Authentic J.R. Sweezy Jersey , especially on obvious passing downs. When Mingo was first signed, he was the sixth or seventh player down the depth chart for pass rushers; now, he should be one of the first in the rotation. Seattle has lacked versatility at the SAM linebacker position in recent years, but in 2018, they’ll be leaning on that versatility more than ever. David Moore will feature in the Seahawks’ offenseAlmost immediately, Moore began drawing praise out of training camp. Russell Wilson, Brian Schottenheimer and Carroll all commented on Moore’s ability to win in one-on-ones, and the trust of quarterbacks that comes with that trait. Schottenheimer stressed how important that is during his first media session of camp:Moore was excellent throughout the preseason, totaling six catches for 147 yards and a touchdown. There were several instances of quarterbacks, whether it was Wilson, Austin Davis or Alex McGough, targeting Moore despite blanket coverage. In a limited sample size, Moore has proven to be the team’s best contested catch receiver. Even when Moore didn’t complete the catch, his size and ability above the rim caused problems. Against the Oakland Raiders, Davis targeted a covered Moore in the end zone, who drew a pass interference flag after fighting back to the ball. Not only has Moore done enough to stick on Seattle’s 53-man roster after his second preseason, he has displayed the physical traits and ability to continue to see snaps as an outside receiver in the Seahawks’ offense. Brandon Marshall may have been brought in to provide the big-bodied presence vacated by Jimmy Graham’s departure, but it should be Moore who is given the chance to shine in that role. The Seattle Seahawks have played seven games.K.J. Wright has missed six games; Earl Thomas has missed three games; Bobby Wagner has missed one game; Tre Flowers has missed one game; Mychal Kendricks has been suspended for the last four games; Dion Jordan has missed two games; there’s a new defensive coordinator; the 2018 draft class has only yielded one productive player on defense so far; and yet Pete Carroll once again has this unit as one of the best in the NFL.On Tuesday, FootballOutsiders’ DVOA rankings for games through Week 7 has the Seahawks ranked second on defense, including third against the pass and sixth against the run. Seattle is sixth overall in DVOA Youth Sebastian Janikowski Jersey , with them coming in at 18th on offense and 17th on special teams. The Seahawks were 10th prior to their 28-14 win over the Detroit Lions. Offensively they are 10th in passing and 17th in rushing, a fact that may surprise some people who believe that Seattle’s recent rushing success if fueling the offense’s success. If you want to argue that “a fear of Chris Carson by defenses is causing them to shake their focus on stopping Russell Wilson and his weapons,” that’s one thing, but it’s efficient and successful passing plays that has kept the Seahawks’ offense floating in the middle of the pack by DVOA.Wilson, on a hot streak as of late, is now ninth in DVOA, 17th in QBR, and 19th in DYAR.Carson is 21st in both DYAR and DVOA. He’s 24th in success rate.Tyler Lockett is 19th in DYAR and second in DVOA, meaning he’s not making a high volume of plays (Seattle is 32nd in pass attempts) but when he does catch a pass, it’s for big gains.DVOA also outlines an incredibly difficult road ahead for the Seahawks in the next four weeks. They take on the LA Chargers this Sunday, the team ranked third in DVOA. Then it’s a road trip rematch vs the second place LA Rams. A short week brings them back home to face the 11th-place Green Bay Packers, followed by another road trip to face the fourth ranked Carolina Panthers. That’s three of the top four teams, with two of those games coming on the road, including a 10 AM start in Carolina.Seattle is 0-3 against teams with a top-10 pass defense. The Chargers are 15th in pass defense, the Rams are sixth, the Packers are 17th, and the Panthers are 20th. The Seahawks did defeat the Arizona Cardinals, who are 11th in pass defense.
  7. Jets Whose Stock Plummeted Against the Giants Eric Tomlinson - If you’ve followed this site since the start of last season Womens Jordan Jenkins Jersey , you would know that I have long been a staunch supporter of Eric Tomlinson, even toying with placing him on my top ten roster power rankings at a point during the 2017 season. However, that relationship has sadly crumbled to dust. I would not like for Tomlinson to make this roster. Known solely for his blocking ability, Tomlinson has struggled to produce in that area throughout the preseason, standing out most terribly against the Giants. He compiled two false start penalties, and added this gem in pass protection:Every tight end struggled against the Giants, but Tomlinson is no longer thriving with his one tool that made him a viable player. Chris Herndon, Clive Walford, and Neal Sterling all possess far more upside as receivers and have been comparable if not much better as blockers. It would be a shame in my eyes if one of those three players missed the final 53 in favor of Tomlinson.Trenton Cannon - After muffing two punts against the Falcons, Cannon fumbled away a kick return on Friday night. He has eliminated himself from consideration at either returner spot, all but securing Andre Roberts’ roster spot. However, Cannon did add 4 receptions for 30 yards and 5 carries for 24 yards against the Giants. Though he hasn’t found that big play yet, he’s flashed some quick change of direction ability and been efficient given his surroundings. Through three games, Cannon has 63 rushing yards on 16 carries, a 3.94 yards per carry average that while mediocre easily tops the other four backs that have carried the rock for the Jets so far. Cannon’s 7 receptions also lead the team. While he has certainly not helped himself with these muffs, it seems that Cannon still has a solid shot of sticking on the roster with the way the final 53 is shaping out.Juston Burris - Burris struggled in his relief appearance and has done nothing to help himself earn a roster spot at the bottom of the cornerback depth chart.Chad Hansen - ArDarius Stewart finally showed up and made a couple of plays in the receiving game, while Hansen continues to straggle for playing time and fail to make plays.Dimitri Flowers - The undrafted free agent who was once considered to have a great chance at a roster spot has been outperformed by Lawrence Thomas and relegated to small portions of snaps with the backups throughout the preseason. Against the Giants, Flowers compiled only 3 snaps. It doesn’t seem like he has a shot at the roster anymore.Brent Qvale - While the rest of the first team offensive line actually had an improved game Avery Williamson Jersey , Qvale continues to struggle mightily week after week in both the run and pass games. It’s puzzling as to why the team continues to feature him as a primary backup instead of giving some other competitors a bit of burn just to see what they’ve got. Qvale is clearly a far below replacement level backup. As has already been the case in recent seasons, the Jets will be in trouble if their starting offensive line cannot stay healthy, as if that starting unit wasn’t already stacked with question marks when they are healthy.Lorenzo Mauldin - Hopeful projection was probably the only trait that might have given Mauldin a case for the roster as he has failed to both stay healthy and produce throughout the offseason. Now, with the far younger Frankie Luvu showing up with a sack, in addition to Mauldin failing to gain any playing time, Mauldin’s time seems to be running out. Draft pedigree is his only hope, but it certainly should not be enough to save him, even in this barren position group.Jets vs. Broncos: Anatomy of a defensive bust When a defense busts an assignment, it provokes anger and outrage from fans. These guys are handsomely compensated professionals. How can they just blow an assignment? This was a popular refrain last week as we examined the Jets’ loss to Jacksonville. On many levels, the complaints ring true. The NFL has the best football players in the world. These players have a job, and it is to execute. Their opponents are also very talented paid quite well to execute, though. And complex plays are necessary to beat opponents of such high caliber. Complexity can lead to errors. The Jets aren’t the only team to make these errors. Take what happened to the Broncos in the third quarter of Sunday’s game.Defensive play calls are complicated by their very nature. A defense has no idea whether the opponent will run the ball or throw the ball before a play is run. Therefore, the defensive playcall must provide assignments for both possibilities. On this play, to defend the run, the Broncos have seven defenders committed to stopping the run. They are each assigned one of the seven gaps in the Jets’ formation. A gap is the space between blockers up front.Against the pass, the Broncos are playing man to man coverage. The most notable pass assignment is number 29 Bradley Roby matched up against Quincy Enunwa.Enunwa is sent in motion, and this starts a chain of events that leads to disaster for Denver. Roby follows him.Darian Stewart (number 26) makes a signal with his hand telling Roby to stop following Enunwa. It is difficult to follow a receiver in motion across the formation. As you can see above, Roby is behind Enunwa. The Jets could snap it quickly Youth Doug Middleton Jersey , and Roby would be out of position.Stewart is essentially saying to Roby, “Stay where you are. We are switching assignments. I will now have Enunwa in man coverage.”Taking Enunwa means that Stewart will no longer be able to help against the run. To compensate for this, two linebackers shift over. Brandon Marshall slides over to take Stewart’s old gap, while Josey Jewell slides over to take Marshall’s old gap. (Old gaps are in pink; new gaps are in yellow.)You can see the new gap assignments here. (Marshall’s and Jewell’s changed assignments are in yellow.)You might notice a problem here. The gap between Kelvin Beachum and Eric Tomlinson is unoccupied. Roby did not get the message and continued to follow Enunwa. That was Jewell’s old gap. When Jewell slid over, Roby was supposed to take it.Here’s what the assignment looks like with a lifelike illustration of Roby filling that gap.Stewart was supposed to take over for Roby covering Enunwa man to man. Marshall was supposed to slide to take Stewart’s gap against the run. Jewell was supposed to slide to take Marshall’s gap against the run. Roby was supposed to release Enunwa and take Jewell’s gap against the run.Everybody got the message except Roby, which left a gap undefended. The Jets were quite happy to run the ball into this undefended area.Isaiah Crowell ripped off a 54 yard gain.It is easy for fans to forget there are two teams on the field. A week ago, Jets fans were understandably upset with their defense for all of the blown defensive assignments. Part of the story, however, was that the Jaguars deserved credit for making the Jets pay. Just because the defense messes up doesn’t mean the offense will automatically create a big play. On the same note, the Jets deserve credit here for making Denver pay for a mistake. The Broncos bust this play, but the Jets also block up front very well, and Crowell runs with speed and authority to prevent Denver from covering for its error. In here there is also a lesson about why teams use presnap motion. It frequently forces the defense to adjust its assignments quickly before the snap. That requires quick and effective communication in a high stress setting. It only takes one person to miss the message for disaster to strike.(The motion has another impact. Had the Broncos executed better, the Jets still would have created more favorable matchups against Denver’s defense. If the Jets threw, a safety would be one on one against Enunwa. Against the run, a corner would have to defend rather than a safety.)You might now understand why offenses like Kansas City utilize so many complex presnap motions. The more the defense has to adjust, the greater the odds of a bust.
  8. Los Angeles Chargers Daily Links: Mike Williams Needs To Take a Step Forward More expected from Mike Williams ahead of Chargers training camp - Eric WilliamsBradley oversaw the creation of the Legion of Boom while serving as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks Womens Denzel Perryman Jersey , and has now put together a similarly talented defensive backfield with the Chargers. Cornerbacks Casey Hayward and Jason Verrett have Pro Bowls to their credit, strong safety Jahleel Addae is an ascending player and James is expected to compete for defensive rookie of the year honors.Chargers are in tight spot without injured Hunter Henry. Could Antonio Gates be the answer? - Dan Woike“Don’t forget that we have some guys here who can play who we like,” Telesco said. “And we still have all of training camp and the [final] cut to 53. There are different avenues to look at, but we have some guys we like too. We’ll see how it plays out.”3 Chargers flying under the radar heading into camp - Travis WakemanThe Chargers have had plenty of these role players step up and help the team win games. In recent years, players such as Tyrell Williams and Austin Ekeler have been guys who have done just that, and most fans didn’t give them much chance of making the team when they first donned a Chargers jersey.Akbar Gbaja-Biamila Using Personal Experience to Create "Parkour 4 Parkinson's" - Hayley Elwood“You can be a football fan and enjoy it, you can be a fan of the show and enjoy it or you can just be a person looking to give to a good cause to help find a cure for Parkinson’s disease,” Gbaja-Biamila said of the event.Tom Telesco Opens Up on Eve of Training Camp - Ricky HenneTalk of Antonio Gates potentially returning to the Chargers has been bandied about ever since Hunter Henry suffered his ACL injury. I’m not a sadist or anything like that, but one of my favorite things to watch in the NFL is a rookie quarterback going up against a team that’s known for having an elite pass rusher or two. So obviously, I was ecstatic about the opportunity for Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram to sack Browns’ rookie quarterback, Deshone Kizer. The Cleveland game, surprisingly, had all the feelings of a revenge game. After all , the Chargers are the only team to fall to the Browns over the last two seasons, giving them their only victory for a record of 1-31 since the start of the 2016 campaign. No team ever, EVER, wants that to be something others can hold over them. You know the Chargers were going to come out with a vengeance, and that was evident from the first snap.Bosa gobbled up and chased down running backs Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson all day long. Kizer didn’t fare much better, being brought down hard after escaping the pocket. The hit also knocked the ball out of the quarterback’s hands late in a series where the Browns were knocking on the end zone’s door late into the fourth quarter. The Big Bear was a dominant force from start to finish in this game and he exemplified the complete player he is quickly becoming after just two seasons in the NFL. Look for him to show up again later in this series.*shrugs* Custom Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys
  9. . Just have to get the rest of the secondary on the same wavelength. The six-time Pro Bowl safety picked off a pass and collected five tackles Sunday in Seattle's 27-24 l oss at Denver 72 hours after he reported to the Seahawks with his pay-me-or-trade-me demand having failed on both counts.Still , it wasn't up to the standards set by the old "Legion of Boom" defense that's imploded like Seattle's Kingdome with the offseason departures of Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor."Just glad to get through the first game and get that out the way," Thomas said. "That's it. It felt like we did pretty good up front, but it was just sometimes throughout the game it was small little plays that we should've had, we didn't communicate right and they had big plays."Coach Pete Carroll managed Thomas' snaps as he said he would. Thomas had four days of practice after ending his holdout Wednesday."I think I had about 65 plays," Thomas said. "I felt good. I felt like my training with my brother and my team back home has been great and has been right on it. The only thing right now is my big toe hurt and my feet hurt, but that's about it."Oh, and his feelings. His Instagram post on Wednesday morning announcing his return made it clear Thomas wasn't happy or satisfied.By reporting last week, Thomas assured he won't miss out on his roughly $500,000 weekly paychecks. But he wants more than the $8.5 million he'll make in 2018 in the final year of the four-year, $40 million contract he signed in 2015 after Seattle's win over Denver in Super Bowl 48."During the game I'm not thinking about it," Thomas said. "I'm out here having fun with B-Mac (safety Bradley McDougald) and the guys. So, I'm not thinking about it. When I get asked about it, it definitely runs across my mind."Other takeaways from Denver's 18th win in its last 19 home openers:ROOKIE RUSHERSBroncos rookie running backs Royce Freeman, the Pac-12's all-time rushing touchdown leader at Oregon, and Philip Lindsay took different paths to the NFL. Freeman was a third-round draft choice and Lindsay signed as an undrafted free agent after not even getting an invitation to the combine.Their debuts were identical , however: 15 carries for 71 yards, a 4.7-yard average. While Lindsay added a 29-yard TD catch-and-scamper, Freeman helped salt away the win with several strong runs in the closing minutes, two of which covered 17 and 15 yards just before the 2-minute warning."I mean, first game you're going to have a little bit of nerves," Freeman said, "but they churn more to excitement."RECEIVER'S REDEMPTIONDemaryius Thomas had an awful start as three passes went off his hands, his holding call negated a 12-yard run and a miscommunication led to an interception in the first half."It was like my first game again," Thomas said. "I was so excited to be back on the field. Those first three plays were kind of tough, kind of tough. Couple quick drops."Quarterback Case Keenum never lost faith in the ninth-year veteran, who bounced back with six catches for 63 yards and scored the winning TD with his tip-toeing 4-yard grab in the fourth quarter."Demaryius is just like all of us — he's human," Keenum said. "I know he's going to make the play when he needs to. I have no doubt in him. I'm going to keep slinging him the ball."DISSLY DEBUTThe book on Seahawks rookie tight end Will Dissly coming out of Washington was that he's a strong blocker. He proved he's much more than that Sunday. The fourth-round draft pick twice burst past linebacker Bradley Chubb, the fifth overall pick in the draft, first for a 15-yard TD catch and then for a 66-yard gain that set up a field goal."It was just a cool opportunity to go out there that first game and do something special," said Dissly White Derek Wolfe Jersey , who caught three passes for 105 yards."He was on fire," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "He was like Mike Ditka out there."DOUBLE TROUBLEShaquill Griffin's twin brother, rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin, started the game with K.J. Wright out following minor knee surgery. It's another chapter in the remarkable story of Griffin, who had his left hand amputated as a child. The Griffins had back-to-back tackles on Seattle's second defensive series. Shaquill had six tackles and Shaquem two."There is no better feeling," Shaquem said of playing in the pros alongside his twin. The Los Angeles Rams (5-0) are an offensive powerhouse, but they have lacked in one key area and that is on defense where they also give up a lot of points. Not quite as bad as the Kansas City Chiefs, but bad enough to give the Denver Broncos (2-3) some hope if they can find a way to, well, get out of their own way.The mood around Broncos Country is one of despair and acceptance of losing. Losing is something we have all come to except in the Vance Joseph era and collectively we don’t think it will be much different this week with the Mile High Report staff predicting a 37-21 home loss. Here is how we expect things to play out individually.Broncos 31, Rams 28Never give up, never surrender! That is my motto this week as I predict yet another Broncos win - which is something I have done every week this year. I feel like this is Joseph’s last chance to change the narrative of this season and get things back on track in a big way. Do I think it’s likely? Not really, but I have to go into each game hoping for the best - especially this early into a season. - Tim LynchRams 44, Broncos 2431-3 at halftime. Then Case Keenum is benched and Chad Kelly comes in to usher in a new era as our franchise quarterback. What will the final score be? Not a clue as I’m not sure if the Rams will call off the dogs and prevent defense their way home, or if Chad Kelly lights it up and keeps it within 3 scores. But I know at some point , it will be a 28+ point game. - Pete BaronRams 32, Broncos 17The Rams are going to want to make a statement against the Broncos on Sunday. Wade Phillips will have his defense fired up, and things could get ugly quick. As I mentioned on The MHR Radio Podcast, after three quarters the Rams will probably be up by enough to call off the dogs. The game will be over at 32-0 heading into the fourth, but Keenum will snag a few garbage time points in the fourth against the backups. 32-17 Rams. - Adam MalnatiRams 38, Broncos 21I think Lindsay and Royce go HAM against a weak Rams run D but the Broncos turn into the same pass happy outfit they’ve been so far as Jared Goff torches the secondary. Denver scores 21 but gives up more than 5 touchdowns. - Joe RowlesRams 51, Broncos 23I think its 51-23, Rams. That was the score of the Eagles game last year and this season is shaping up to look pretty close to last year’s season.I think Denver comes out with some energy, but succumbs to turnovers and their losing ways in the second half. - Jeff EssaryRams 34, Broncos 9Most seem to agree the weather is the only chance the Broncos have on Sunday. The Rams want to prove they have what it takes to win on the road in the cold and snow. Todd Gurley is going to absolutely shred the Broncos defense — think Bo Jackson on Tecmo Bowl — and the Rams D will own the line of scrimmage, thus taking away the only thing Denver does well on offense. At least Bill Musgrave won’t be surprised by the calls this week. Of course, Wade Phillips and the Rams will benefit from the Broncos not playing one of their better run-blocking offensive lineman. - Ian St. ClairGive us your score predictions in the comments section below. 10. Broncos Country with the news that wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was being traded for essentially a fourth round pick to the Houston Texans on Tuesday prior to the NFL Trade Deadline. With Thomas <a title="" href=""></a> , 30, nearing the end of his contract and on the wrong side of 30, Elway decided there was value in dealing a player who will likely end up in the franchises Ring of Fame someday. That decision was partly due to the emergence of rookie standout Courtland Sutton who is quickly coming into this own after just eight games in the NFL.“I think that they’ve all—Courtland’s played very, very well,” Elway said when asked about Sutton. “Tim Patrick played very well last week. Emmanuel is obviously playing very well, too. We thought that this would give Courtland a chance to get out there, play more and become a bigger part of it because we think he’s ready to go. He’s played well up to this point in time. Hopefully this accelerates his maturity.”However, the player that sealed the deal and the decision to move on from Thomas came down to his partner in crime on the field, Emmanuel Sanders.“We leave Emmanuel out, he’s had a great year,” Elway said. “He’s played hard, he competes, he’s tough and a great competitor. What he’s done has also made this decision easier.”Sanders, 31, is the real star in 2018. He has three 100-yard receiving games so far this season and has amassed 50 receptions for 660 yards and 3 touchdowns in eight games this year. Easily eclipsing Thomas’ production of 36 receptions for 402 yards and three scores. Rookie Sutton, already has 17 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns this season and figures to see his role expand exponentially moving forward. Hopefully it translates to more production on the field for the Broncos offense as reps will now be more evened out among a core of starters. After starting off the year with three straight losses, the Houston Texans have embarked on an extraordinary gridiron journey to reel off five straight victories. That trek of success has propelled them to the top of the AFC South with a realistic shot at winning the division or at the very least securing a wildcard playoff berth. That is a stark contrast to what we have witnessed with our beloved Denver Broncos <a title="Youth Chris Harris Jr Jersey" href="">Youth Chris Harris Jr Jersey</a> , who started off the year with two impressive wins but have lost five out of their last six games. A loss at home to the Texans would more than likely eliminate the Broncos from playoff contention and cast an even darker and ominous cloud over their 2018 season. Can the Broncos get back on track and begin to salvage their season with a win on the road in Houston or will the Texans run wild and extend their winning streak to six games?Let’s take a deeper look at the Texans and how they have went from a 4-12 squad a year ago to one of the hottest teams in the National Football League.A quick glance at the Texans’ offenseThe Texans’ offense is an above-average unit, but one that has big-play potential. They rank fifteenth in the league in points scored (24.6) and yardage (379.0) per game. Their rushing offense is eleventh league-wide averaging 123 yards per game, with their passing attack coming in at eighteenth overall amassing 256 yards per contest.Missing half of his rookie campaign due to a season-ending knee injury, second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson has come back strong and been a primary reason for the team’s offensive success to date. In half a season of play, Watson is completing nearly 65 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,176 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also continued to establish himself as a threat running the ball, amassing 230 yards and a touchdown on 44 carries.All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has undoutedbly been Watson’s favorite target. Through eight games, the former Clemson product has reeled in 53 receptions for 789 yards and six touchdowns. He is on pace for his best season statistically since his 2015 campaign where he caught 111 passes for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Texans’ wide receiving corps suffered a huge blow when Will Fuller was lost for the season after suffering an ACL tear against the Miami Dolphins. In order to replace Fuller, the Texans became late-night bidders and acquired Demaryius Thomas before the trade deadline. With Hopkins and Thomas, the Texans have one of the best wide receiver duos in the league. The two could be in for huge games with the Broncos having a few players in their secondary ruled out for tomorrow’s game. After enduring a relatively mediocre beginning to his 2018 campaign, running back Lamar Miller is starting to hit his stride as of late. In his last two games, Miller has rushed 40 times for 233 yards and two touchdowns and has gotten better as the season has progressed. There is no question the Texans would love to establish the run and help him achieve his third straight 100-yard game. When Miller is out of the game, the ball is placed in the hands of Alfred Blue who has rushed the ball 79 times for 258 yards and 1 touchdown on the year.A quick glance at the Texans’ defenseOne of the primary reasons for the Texans’ positive overall transformation has been their success defensively. After struggling immensely in that regard in 2017, the Texans have had an incredible turnaround on that side of the ball. In fact <a title="" href=""></a> , it may be one of the most under-heralded story-lines of the season across the league.Last season, their defense allowed the most points in all of football. This year they have improved demonstrably in that regard surrendering just 20.9 points per game — ninth best in the league. In terms of yardage allowed, they are also ninth best allowing 334.9 yards per game. Their rushing defense is staunch and is only giving up a paltry 95.1 yards per contest which ranks seventh-best in the league. Their passing defense is ranked twelfth overall, allowing 239.8 yards per game. Their defense also has a penchant for forcing turnovers, reeling in seven interceptions and recovering seven forced fumbles. It all starts up front on the Texans’ defense who have a formidable pass rush headlined by J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. They rank eleventh in the league with 21 total sacks with the aforementioned duo combining for 12.5 sacks. They also do a great job of opening things up for their highly-touted linebackers Zach Cunningham and Benardrick McKinney, who have been all over the field this year making plays and are on pace to break 100 tackles each this season. Those are the four key players the Broncos will have to account for on each and every snap on Sunday. While Tyrann Matheiu and Kareem Jackson are their most well-known and respected members of their secondary, there is one under-the-radar player who has made an impact in his first season with the team. That’s rookie safety Justin Reid out of Stanford. He has been a revelation as of late, earning four consecutive starts and amassing 39 tackles and two interceptions. He has been the most active member of their secondary and appears to be progressing each and every game. It certainly looks like they found a gem in the third round with Reid. Make no mistake, the Texans’ top-ten defense is for real and poses a real threat to shut down the Broncos’ offense. Two Keys to the GameBroncos’ offensive line versus Texans’ defensive frontOne of the biggest concerns for me in respect to tomorrow’s game is how the Broncos’ offensive line will perform against the Texans’ ferocious defensive front. The key match-up in my eyes is Garett Bolles going up against Jadeveon Clowney. Can Bolles handle his speed and power off the edge and put together a consistent performance or will he continue to underwhelm and implode at the most inopportune of times? If the Broncos’ offensive line can’t protect Case Keenum (who definitely needs to get the ball out a lot earlier), things could get ugly real quick. Will the Broncos’ secondary be able to cover DeAndre Hopkins and Demaryius Thomas? With Bradley Roby being sidelined, it’s expected that Traimaine Brock will be matched up against Demaryius Thomas and Chris Harris Jr. locked in on DeAndre Hopkins. Darian Stewart is also out for a second-straight game, which will make the Broncos’ defensive back end even more vulnerable. I’m extremely worried about the Broncos’ ability to contain both Hopkins and Thomas on the field. The No Fly Zone has turned into the Frequent Fly Zone this season and has given up a lot of big-time plays. This will be a huge test for them and I have no doubts that Thomas will bring his best going up against the franchise that just jettisoned him away for a fourth round draft pick.Hart’s PredictionThe Texans are scorching hot, the Broncos are on the verge of collapse. One team is headed in the right direction, one team is on a familiar road to nowhere. The Texans’ defense is one of the best in the league and their aerial attack has a lot of offensive firepower. Unfortunately, I think both of them will cause problems for the Broncos on Sunday and result in a victory for the Texans.Texans 27, Broncos 24.
  11. have switched places The Seattle Seahawks won last Sunday ... but fans were not happy about it.As we continue to track fan confidence in the Seahawks this season <a title="Cheap 12th Fan Jersey" href="">Cheap 12th Fan Jersey</a> , things went from a small bump following a win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, to a relatively steep plummet after the win over the Arizona Cardinals; from 51% to 24% when asked “How Confident Are Seahawks Fans In The Direction Of The Team?”That’s obviously a season low and there are several factors why:The loss of Earl Thomas to a broken legThe choices made by offensive coordinator Brian SchottenheimerAnd probability the inability to utilize Russell Wilson in his most effective mannerSeattle hosts the LA Rams this Sunday, and there couldn’t be a more confident bunch in the NFL. For good reason, the Rams have the league’s best offense and potentially a top-five defense. Fans wavered slightly after Week 3, dipping to a season-low 97%, but they’re right back at 100%. Could there be a number higher than 100% following this weekend’s game?Seahawks-Chargers final score: Seahawks suffer 24-14 defeat, fall to 0-2 in 2018 preseason The Seattle Seahawks dropped to 0-2 in the 2018 NFL preseason, blowing early opportunities and losing to the Los Angeles Chargers 24-14 in Carson, California. Russell Wilson looked sharp with his deep ball, throwing for almost 200 yards in the 1st half, while Chris Carson had some exciting moments, but had an unfortunate fumble at the goal line. Seattle’s first-team defense gave up a touchdown and nothing more, and the special teams was clearly headlined by the punting excellency of Michael Dickson.Seattle got off to a brilliant start, as Russell Wilson found a wide open Jaron Brown off play-action for about 30 yards on the first play of the game, then added 15 yards due to a helmet-to-helmet shot by Jaylen Watkins. Chris Carson scored on a toss just two plays later <a title="Cheap Kam Chancellor Jersey" href="">Cheap Kam Chancellor Jersey</a> , but rookie TE Will Dissly wiped it out with an illegal block in the back. The Seahawks kicked a field goal, as Jason Myers split the uprights.Making his preseason debut, Chargers QB Philip Rivers found Tyrell Williams for an impressive 21-yard gain, as Justin Coleman was beaten on the play. Rivers, Melvin Gordon, and Keenan Allen all had strong moments picking apart Seattle’s defense, and the Chargers were able to finish their opening drive with a two-yard score for Melvin Gordon.Wilson hooked up again with Brown for 45 yards on the next possession, but the Seahawks again settled for 3, this time with Sebastian Janikowski making what was a chipshot field goal.David Moore set the Seahawks up deep in enemy territory with a remarkable 52-yard snag in double coverage, then came up inches short of the goal-line on his next catch. Unfortunately, the ball was at the 1, and the Seahawks ran it, so guess what happened? Carson fumbled at the goal-line and former Seahawk Brandon Mebane recovered it.Rivers’ day was done before Wilson’s, so Geno Smith came in for Los Angeles. He got them a couple of first-downs before a Quinton Jefferson sack killed off his first drive. Not to fear, as after a couple of three-and-outs by the Seahawks <a title="" href=""></a> , Jon Ryan’s 57-yard punt would be taken back 72 yards for a touchdown by the speedy J.J. Jones. Wilson stayed in for the rest of the half and didn’t add any more points.By the time Austin Davis saw playing time, the Chargers extended the lead to 21-6, as Geno Smith found 2017 first-round draft pick Mike Williams for a touchdown, with Akeem King unable to jar the ball free in coverage. Davis played poorly, and frankly I’ve wiped most of his snaps out of my memory even while writing this recap up.Rookie QB Alex McGough brought the Seahawks back into the ballgame with a lofted 39-yard throw to Cyril Grayson, and then a touchdown to Malik Turner, followed by a two-point conversion to Grayson. Not exactly a great series of plays by cornerback B.J. Clay, who was roasted on all of those passes.Just like last week, the Seahawks defense had the chance to get the ball back by making a three-and-out stop, only for the opposition’s run game to get the conversion. Detrez Newsome broke through for a 31-yard gain that put the Chargers into field goal range, and Roberto Aguayo iced the game shortly thereafter.Injury reportRG DJ Fluker suffered a finger injury and did not return.Next week’s opponentThe Seahawks travel to Minneapolis for a showdown with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, August 24th at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
  12. <a title="Youth Brian Winters Jersey" href="">Youth Brian Winters Jersey</a> , there was a lot of moving and shaking going on within my ranking of the top ten Jets. Let’s dive in!The weekly rankings are based on my perception of total positive impact on the team over the season to that point, discounting player reputation, talent, or past performance.Previous rankings: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 410. Sam Darnold, QB (Last week: 9th)Keeping Darnold in the top 10 was an extremely tough decision. He has played very poorly two weeks in a row now. After going ultra-conservative against Cleveland, Darnold started to air it out against Jacksonville and just could not find a rhythm as he was wildly inaccurate downfield. He was bailed out of at least 3 should-be interceptions. On the season, he is now 30th of 34 qualifiers in passer rating. Darnold played well below average quarterback in the first quarter, following up two solid games with two very bad ones in which he played a large role in tanking the offense.Of course, this is all fine in grand scheme of things, as Darnold’s production level very closely matches what is expected of the average rookie. We knew the bumps would come. He’s slowly progressing, gradually getting more aggressive and getting closer with his deep passing.Despite Darnold’s struggles over the past two games, I could not find a player who deserved to be here over him. As I mentioned, he played two good games. He was very efficient in Detroit and played a strong game in Miami in which he was left hanging by his supporting cast. I don’t think anybody who is not on this list has played more than one good game or had as much net impact as Darnold has with the way he played over the first two weeks.Check out the rest of the list, and definitely comment below on if you think there is anybody more deserving than Darnold who is not on the list.9. Leonard Williams, DL (Last week: Unranked)Williams had a very strong game in Jacksonville to rejoin the list. He had a sack, 3 run stuffs, and forced a ton of pressure. On the whole, Williams’ first quarter was not up to his usual standards. However, he has still been a good player. He has a high floor based on his physical ability and the attention he draws. However, it’s fair to be critical of him and expect more from him as an interior lineman who was drafted with the 6th pick and was pitched as the best player in his draft class.8. Morris Claiborne, CB (Last week: 10th)While he seems to be walking a tightrope, you can’t argue with Claiborne’s production to start the year. While he lucked out quite a bit against Miami in Week 2, Claiborne maintains season numbers of only 72 yards and 3 first downs allowed on 17 targets. All in all, he’s allowed just a 29.5 passer rating when targeted.Has he been as good as that passer rating number indicates? Certainly not. He should’ve been toast in Week 2 and over the past couple of weeks opposing offenses simply took advantage of greater weaknesses. However <a title="Womens Morris Claiborne Jersey" href="">Womens Morris Claiborne Jersey</a> , Claiborne has taken hold of his new #2 role and thrived with it thus far. I’m hesitant to rank him highly until he can string together a few more lockdown performances without being bailed out, but to this point, his production is respectable.7.Avery Williamson, ILB (Debut)After a silent first couple of weeks in which he was not himself, Williamson has come alive over the past two weeks. He had 0 run stuffs and 2 tackles in the run game short of the first down marker over the first two weeks. Over the previous two, he has racked up 5 run stuffs and 14 tackles in the run game short of the sticks - the latter number leads the league over that span.He forced two turnovers against Jacksonville, tipping a pass leading to an interception and forcing a fumble. He has looked very much capable of filling the void left by Demario Davis over the past couple of weeks. If he can keep up his current level of play, he can fly up this list.6. Steve McLendon, DT (Last week: 7th)McLendon doesn’t post flashy numbers, but he just goes out there and wins matchups, fills gaps, and stuffs runs. He’s got 5 run stuffs (same amount as Leonard Williams), a half sack, and a pass deflection playing only 44% of the Jets defensive snaps. Just a strong, high-motor vet.5. Henry Anderson, DT (Last week: 6th)It is hard to believe, but despite being 27 years old, Anderson is only in his 4th career season after being selected in the 3rd round of the 2015 draft. He entered this season with only 29 career games - which means in terms of real game experience, he has only barely completed 2 seasons’ worth.Anderson had been a respected performer in Indianapolis, but he just could never get things going as he struggled to stay healthy. He has stayed healthy in this Jets defensive line rotation that has had him playing 51% of the defensive snaps - second along the defensive front behind Leonard Williams. He’s made the most of his opportunities. Anderson has 2.5 sacks, a quarterback hit, 3 run stuffs, and 2 pass deflections already. His motor is always firing and he has underrated short area quickness that makes him a productive interior pass rusher.4. Darron Lee, ILB (Last week: 3rd)Lee took a big step back in coverage last week. While he was involved in a lot of the coverage breakdowns that may have been on coaching more than any particular player, he made a few mistakes in zone coverage. In particular, he was guilty on T.J. Yeldon’s 31-yard touchdown, as he lost Yeldon coming out of the backfield late.Lee’s run defense has picked up as Williamson’s has. Lee has collected 5 run stuffs over the previous two games after notching only 1 over the first two weeks. Overall it was a very promising first quarter for Lee. Imperfect <a title="" href=""></a> , but he definitely provided plus value on the whole. He needs to continue doing that. If he can bring everything together, his ceiling is high. It’s a big if, though.3. Bilal Powell, RB (Last week: 4th)Powell just keeps producing more than he should. Just like he always has.On a day in which the Jets offensive line was getting crushed by an elite Jacksonville front, Powell picked up 26 yards on 8 carries - not impressive at all, but much more productive than Powell’s runningmate Isaiah Crowell who picked up 0 yards on 4 carries.Powell also caught 4 passes for 26 yards. He opened himself down the field on one play for what should have been a long touchdown, but Sam Darnold missed him.He also continues to pass protect well, allowing only 1 pressure across 11 pass blocking snaps.2. Quincy Enunwa, WR (Last week: 1st)Enunwa caught 4 passes for 66 yards against Jacksonville, giving him 4+ receptions and at least 57 yards in each game this year. He maintains an impressive average of 69.5 yards per game, pacing him for 1,112 yards over 16 games. However, Enunwa did only pick up 2 first downs in this game, a season low. There was one deep pass in which Enunwa had a ton of room towards the sideline, but Darnold threw it behind him. It was a bad throw, but catchable. It wasn’t the type I’d label a drop, as Enunwa really had to contort himself mid-air to get it, but it was one that could have been made and would have changed momentum. Enunwa also picked up a delay of game penalty for spiking the ball following a big reception. To be fair, Enunwa also had a 30+ yard gain wiped out by penalty.Enunwa keeps playing his role very solidly. Darnold needs to get other players involved, and they need to start responding when their numbers are called.1. Jamal Adams, S (Last week: 2nd)I know a lot of you are going to scoff at this. He talks too much. He can’t cover. He’s cocky. He’s immature. I couldn’t agree less with any of those ridiculous criticism Adams draws. He has taken his weaknesses from a year ago and transformed them into strengths. To this point, he has played like a legitimate star, and has quickly ascended close to the uber ceiling that made him a sixth overall pick. The Jets busted / ran boneheaded coverages all afternoon against Jacksonville. Adams was usually the first to recognize deficiencies and break off of his assignment to keep big gains from becoming huge gains. He made a trio of strong plays in coverage, once locking down Austin Seferian-Jenkins man-to-man and twice breaking quickly on the ball in zone coverage to make tackles short of the sticks. All over the field, Adams laid bone-shattering hits that sent opponents flying. There was one drive where Adams single-handedly forced a three and out with three straight tackles on plays that were primed to be big had he missed his assignment. He’s playing great.Dropped off list:Brandon Shell (was 8th) - Shell allowed 6 pressures, a hit, and a sack against the Jaguars. He was dominated by edge rushers Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue. Very poor outing for him <a title="" href=""></a> , but I am still impressed with his start to the year and think he can make a play to return this list and easily take the title of the top Jets lineman in 2018.Isaiah Crowell (was 6th) - Over the past three weeks, Crowell has ran for 69 yards on 32 carries. That’s a 2.15 yards per carry average - worst in the league among the 32 players with 25+ carries over that span.He is a non-factor as a receiver. Among the 66 running backs with 5+ targets this season, Crowell ranks 59th in receiving yards per game (6.0) and 54th in yards per target (3.43).His pass blocking has become unacceptable. He has allowed a sack and 3 pressures across 7 pass blocking snaps this year - all of those coming over the past two games. That’s more total pressures than the rest of the Jets’ skill position players combined.Knocking on the door:Nobody is at the doorstep. I don’t think any player not on the list has a legitimate case to be there - but certainly let me know if you feel otherwise! Sam Darnold had a tough time sitting through film of the game. New York Jets fans certainly know the feeling. After throwing four interceptions in an ugly 13-6 loss at Miami on Sunday , the rookie quarterback shouldered the blame and was looking for answers."For me, it's just not playing to the best of my ability and, quite frankly, just playing stupid," Darnold said Monday. "I thought I played stupid football yesterday and I've just got to be better. I know that, the coaches know that and everyone knows that."Well, yeah. But Darnold isn't alone. Not by any stretch. Most of the venom from frustrated fans on social media and sports talk radio was directed at coach Todd Bowles, whose hold on his job has become increasingly tenuous as the Jets (3-6) head toward another year 鈥?it would be eight straight 鈥?without making the playoffs."I'm sick of losing," second-year safety Jamal Adams said after the game. "I'm not a loser. I want to get back on the winning track. We've lost three straight? Come on, man."This is now a franchise staring at a crossroads. The Jets have a home game Sunday against the bumbling Buffalo Bills (2-7), who somehow look even more inept than their AFC East counterparts."I think it's huge," Bowles acknowledged. "It's our next game. It's a division rivalry. ... Winning takes care of a lot problems and a lot of issues. It's important for us to win the next ballgame."A loss at MetLife Stadium will raise the heat under Bowles' seat to scorching levels. And, it could force owner Christopher Johnson to seriously re-evaluate things 鈥?especially with the team heading into a bye-week break."People are obviously a little upset, a little disappointed, coming off three straight losses," defensive lineman Leonard Williams said. "We definitely needed this one. It was a division game and we talked all week about how important it was for us to get this win."And, they still lost. But there are enough culprits to share the blame."It's not just Sam, it's the team, period," Bowles said. "Yesterday, it was mainly the offense. It was tweaks here and there, but we just have to play better and execute as a whole."Darnold, of course, had his worst game to date. Center Spencer Long had several wayward shotgun snaps because of a reinjured right middle finger before Bowles finally pulled him from the game. Jeremy Bates' offense seemed stuck in neutral <a title="Womens Kelvin Beachum Jersey" href="">Womens Kelvin Beachum Jersey</a> , and wide receivers rarely gave Darnold a target. And, even the normally sure-handed Jermaine Kearse had a few drops and capped a bad day by forgetting where he was on the field before catching a pass late in the game while standing out of bounds."I'm very concerned because we didn't score a bunch of points the last three weeks," Bowles said. "We've got to find a way to execute better and get it right."Darnold's OK with pointing the finger at himself. But it has raised the thought he might be best served sitting for a week just to clear his head while 39-year-old backup Josh McCown takes the field.A quarterback change, however, doesn't appear to be in the plans."Not at this time," Bowles said, "no."Darnold, the No. 3 overall draft pick, leads the NFL with 14 interceptions and has struggled during the last three games. He said "I thought I played bad" on Sunday and added he thought the offensive line "blocked their butts off."Still, the Jets scored six points and have 33 in their last three games combined."I've just got to play smarter, play better," he said. "Yeah, I definitely feel like I forced some things (Sunday), but at the same time, I feel like there were some throws where I was second-guessing myself and I could've pulled the trigger."The last thing the Jets want is for their still-developing franchise QB is to become increasingly gun-shy."I think it's just me at some moments in the game getting in my own head," Darnold said. "I've just got to stay true to my progressions, stay true to the confidence that I normally have, and just go out there and sling it."The defense was mostly solid, allowing just 168 total yards, the second fewest under Bowles. That included 104 yards passing, the lowest under Bowles.Yet, the Jets still came up short in a game they all acknowledged they should have won."I think the biggest consensus overall, for the players and for the coaches and as an organization, we all know that sticking together is what's going to help us continue the season," Williams said. "If we start dividing now, if coaches start dividing from players and players from players and coaches from coaches 鈥?any type of division in this organization 鈥?is only going to hinder us."
  13. A big reason the Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday was because their offense just couldn’t move the football. Be it from poor quarterback play Cheap Cam Robinson Jersey , drops and penalties they just could not move the ball. Another big factor in the game were two seeming blunders by head coach Doug Marrone. The Fake PuntLike, why? I am all about running fakes, but they require a right time and right place in the game. Doing it that early, from your own 43, is not the right time to do it. It compounded the issue because you could have pinned Blaine Gabbert deep in his own territory and just sent pressure at him like you’d been doing previously. You know what happens to Gabbert when he’s pressured and pinning him deep and doing so is either going to result in a quick three and out, safety or a turnover. “Yeah, I think you always, I always regret decisions that don’t work,” Marrone said after the game on Sunday. “I just wanted to be aggressive early and had the look. It looked good in practice and we didn’t execute it.”I’ll never fault a coach for being aggressive, but this was just beyond aggression. You don’t run fake punts that early in the game unless you’re playing a team you know is better than you and you’re trying to steal a possession. There’s also the thought that since the Titans scored on a fake punt the previous week, you run a fake because somehow that will mentally stop the Titans from running a fake because the surprise of it is gone... but that’s some real tin foil stuff.Ultimately Cheap Myles Jack Jersey , it was just a miscalculation on Marrone’s part that led to three points and put the Titans about 15 yards out of field goal range to start their drive. It made things worse by just being an awful designed play, pitching it to Corey Grant and trying to run wide. Not going for it on 4th and 3With 2:51 left in the fourth quarter down by three points, Marrone elected to punt on 4th and 3 from the 32-yard line with all three time outs. I understand the logic in that the Titans offense hasn’t done squat all day and you have your time outs so you try to pin them deep and get the ball back in better field position. The issue was, it was clear the Jaguars defense was starting to wear down because they had been on the field the whole second half. The Titans had just come off a 12 play, near 7-minute drive to kick the go ahead field goal, followed up by you doing a quick three and out on offense when you punt. The gamble was betting on your defense to get another stop, but at some point your offense has to make a play and give them a breather and this was the opportunity to be aggressive and go for it.Malik Jackson penalty for “lowering the helmet” on Blaine Gabbert is the correct call on an awful rule Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Malik Jackson was flagged for a 15-yard penalty — “lowering the helmet” to initiate contact — for his hit on Tennessee Titans quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert was immediately taken to the locker room and evaluated for a concussion. At the time, the score was 0-0 and even though it was just the second possession for the Titans you knew the game was going to be one of those “first to seven points wins” afternoons. Gabbert immediately fumbled after a hit by Calais Campbell, the ball was recovered by Dante Fowler, and momentum was swinging in the Jaguars’ favor. But the penalty not only negated a sack and a fumble recovery, but gave the Titans the ball in field goal range. They went on to get nine more yards and kick their first of three field goals of the game on the way to a 9-6 win. Here’s the thing though — although the call was technically correct A.J. Bouye Jersey , it’s an awful rule that is going to turn the tide in a lot of contests.According to the 2018 NFL Rulebook, the rule is as follows:Malik, for his part, acknowledged the rule was called correctly but that it’s nearly impossible to get around at game speed, saying that “the NFL expects us to be acrobats” and that he expected Gabbert to continue running away from him, which he might have done had Campbell not been in his way.But while the call was correct, Gabbert too lowered his helmet. It wasn’t to initiate contact but he was still guilty of “lowering the head and initiating contact to an opponent’s torso, hips, [or] lower body” as the rule spells out.In all, it’s a dumb rule that is almost impossible to prevent and Malik has every right to be frustrated. Did it cost the Jaguars the game? I won’t go that far — but it did cost this team a chance to swing momentum its way early.
  14. . I just wanted to let you know— in case you didn’t already— that the Jacksonville Jaguars odds to win the Super Bowl are 9-1. Okay <a title="Youth Donte Moncrief Jersey" href="">Youth Donte Moncrief Jersey</a> , let’s get started.Request to the CommishMr. Commish,I am writing to you in regards of the upcoming Week 5 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars #DUUVAL (鈩?) and the Kansas City Chiefs (feat. Yeldon Jersey</a> , She WroteGather round children, and listen to this tale of those pesky ‘ole Jaggywars. And that’s how you retire a team. It’s almost as fun trolling Steelers fans as it is hearing Patriots fans whine about the ref.(Milk) Dud of the weekThe most interesting piece of information to come out of this is that Leonard Fournette smells like mayonnaise, according to Blake Bortles. Because of this, I don’t think he’ll have a good game Sunday, The Titans — especially Jurrell Casey — are known for their innate mayo detection senses (M.A.Y.D.A.R.) to seek out mayo-like scents and feast on them. It’s been shown to sustain them for weeks. Leonard gets 20 carries for 65 yards. That’s my prediction. We’ll still win though. There’s been plenty of focus on the quarterback position in Jacksonville this week <a title="Youth Ronnie Harrison Jersey" href="">Youth Ronnie Harrison Jersey</a> , but head coach Doug Marrone noted last Sunday and again on Wednesday that there’s more to the team’s three-game losing streak than the play of one player.Members of the Jaguars defense agree with Marrone. While the unit still ranks near the top of the league in points and yards allowed, they’ve been less impressive against the run and have forced just five turnovers over the course of the season.Safety Tashaun Gipson said that opposing offenses are more comfortable against the Jaguars than they were last year and believes “we’re not playing with that type of urgency, that type of anger, that type of aggression” that defined the team on their way to a division title.“We used to take the field and there was just an aura and confidence,” Gipson said <a title="Youth Jalen Ramsey Jersey" href="">Youth Jalen Ramsey Jersey</a> , via “Not cockiness. An aura and a confidence and people mistake it for cockiness because of the type of guys that we have over here. Some guys are very vocal. But we’re not playing with that. And I think that’s what it comes down to.”The defense isn’t going to be able to turn around the team’s fortunes on its own, but it’s hard to imagine the Jaguars season amounting to much if the unit isn’t in top form.
  15. as defense dominates The Jacksonville Jaguars arrived in the Twin Cities on Tuesday night for a week of joint events with the Minnesota Vikings Youth Customized Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys , and left Saturday evening with their first preseason victory of 2018, beating the host Vikings by a score of 14-10.It was the first time both conference championship runner-ups were able to display their new rosters as the game was broadcast nationally on NFL Network and both renowned defenses showed up and showed out in a big way.Blake Bortles went 12-for-20 for 159 yards and a badly thrown interception to safety Harrison Smith. He also had a poorly thrown ball on the Jaguars’ opening drive that should’ve been intercepted as well. That said, “Good Blake” did show up after the two opening bad drives. Following the interception, Malik Jackson stripped Vikings running back Latavious Murray and Yannick Ngakoue recovered to regain possession for the Jaguars. Bortles proceeded to lead a drive down the field for 70 yards on 12 plays, using his arm and legs, capping it off with a one-yard Leonard Fournette touchdown run on fourth down.On the flip side of the field, the Jaguars front end defense held the Vikings offense to under 60 yards total with the starters in during the first half and allowed big-ticket free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins just 12 yards on eight attempts, including a sack early by Ngakoue. Cousins never seemed comfortable against the Jaguars front seven, and the Vikings’ well known weapons like Stefon Diggs and Adam Theilen, never got involved in the game. The game ended for both teams’ starters with the Jaguars leading 7-3. The rest of the game was a slop fest dominated by both defenses, as neither Cody Kessler nor Vikings Trevor Siemian were able to generate much in the passing game. The Vikings were able to cash in later in the second half gashing the Jaguars back ups in the running game to take a 10-7 lead up through the two minute warning, when Rashad Greene Sr. returned a punt 54 yards to the Vikings five-yard line, where Jaguars running back Brandon Wilds capped it with a two-yard touchdown run to decide the game 14-10.The Jaguars now return home after five days up north, and prepare for what will be the final preseason game for the starters, as they will face the Atlanta Falcons a week from today at TIAA Bank Field.Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New England Patriots primer: Key matchups, storylines, predictions, and more The Jaguars will be looking to exorcise some franchise demons in the 2018 home opener against the New England Patriots at TIAA Bank Field at 4:25pm EST. UNIFORM WATCH: Teal tops and white trousers for Sunday.OpponentSure, there will be 46 men with Patriots decals running out of the tunnel, but this is far from the best Patriots roster that we’ve seen despite having Tom Brady at the helm. While their depth might actually be better than last year, the loss of key contributors Danny Amendola, Nate Solder, and Malcolm Butler this offseason makes this Patriots team a very different one than what we’ve seen of late.On offense, James White was a menace catching passes out of the backfield against the Texans (4 catches, 38 yards, 1 TD) and will likely be featured this week with Jeremy Hill landing on IR last week, Rex Burkhead missing practice time recovering from a concussion , and Sony Michel yet to make his NFL debut. The Patriots have a solid offensive line, but with the speed and violence of the Jaguars defensive line, expect Josh McDaniels to mainly call quick-hitting slants, screens, and dump offs to the running back. In the true passing game, Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett shouldn’t strike fear into the hearts of Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, but Rob Gronkowski poses an obvious threat.Defensively, this team honestly looked better on film in week one than they did for most of last season under Matt Patricia. Trey Flowers is ascending into a premier defensive end in this league and Malcolm Brown in his contract year will be a handful for Andrew Norwell and AJ Cann this week. The linebacking unit got a huge boost in the return of their defensive captain Dont’a Hightower, who missed half the 2017 season with a pectoral injury, and rookie linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley has looked incredibly impressive and is already pushing Elandon Roberts for first team snaps. In the secondary, Stephon Gilmore is playing like the player they paid him to be after snagging an impressive interception last week, but Eric Rowe could be the weak link and should be exploited in the passing game by Nathaniel Hackett. And then there’s Brady. The Brady that is 5-0 in his career against the Jaguars. The Brady that has made the Jaguars the only NFL team he has never lost to in his 19-year career. The Brady that looked a jawing Jalen Ramsey in the eye during warm ups of the AFC Championship game last year and smiled, as if he knew he would rip out his soul late in the fourth quarter. Sure, this year’s Pats roster may not be the strongest he’s ever had to work with, but he’s still the sumptuous signal caller that has this team’s number as if he’s next in line at the Publix deli waiting to devour a chicken finger sub.For more information on the Patriots, check out Ryan O’Bleness’ crossover piece with Bernd Buchmasser of Pats Pulpit. StorylinesHome. Field. Advantage. The Jaguars have won their last six consecutive home games, which is the third longest streak in franchise history. The Bank will be rocking this weekend in what many local media are calling the biggest regular season game in franchise history, and one player who has really fed off the energy since we’ve gone Full Duval is Blake Bortles. The Jags are going to need the best of Blake this week to have a chance and can’t afford to get conservative like the second half of the AFC Championship game last year. The sting of losing that game despite harboring the lead for almost the entire contest is a sour taste that has lingered in these players’ mouths all offseason, and the only remedy for removing it is winning this game. The Jaguars have said all the right things in the media this week with their “just another game” company line, but make no mistake about it, it’s not just the next game on the schedule. It’s the game. Tony Romo will be here. 80% of the country will have this game on their TVs. This is their moment to catapult from obscurity to notoriety. Quite frankly, it’s less about what another win would mean in a long sixteen game season, and more about setting themselves up with a positive mentality for a playoff run. Imagine if the Jaguars lose again to the Pats this week at home and then have to make the sojourn up to Foxboro for another playoff game in January? The team runs the risk of becoming psychologically dilapidated, and losing this game could give the Patriots an unbreakable aura of invincibility for the next battle, whether or not the Jaguars players want to admit it or not. Finally, we have Fournette watch. I expect Fournette to actually be active, but not used much during the game. In fact Jacksonville Jaguars Womens T-Shirt , if Fournette is in the game, I expect it to be with mostly two running back sets that are schemed to get the ball in Corey Grant’s hands. The play calling and personnel groupings changed drastically last week after Fournette’s injury, and I actually made a case with an article earlier this week that Grant’s utilization was hampered by Fournette’s absence.Key MatchupsTashaun Gipson vs. Rob GronkowskiSure, Jalen Ramsey will likely slide inside to cover Gronk when he lines up in the slot, but Todd Wash isn’t going to shift him inside if Gronkowski lines up on the line of scrimmage, which will be most of the time. Last year, Gipson was severely limited with a foot injury which prohibited him from having his best game, but with a clean bill of health this year, it would not surprise me if he is the one lined up on Gronk in most man coverage packages and Barry Church is asked to drop back and play deep.Cam Robinson vs. Trey FlowersCam Robinson ended up with one of the top ten pass blocking grades of NFL offensive tackles from PFF last week, and hopefully this momentum can carry into this week going up against talented edger rusher Trey Flowers. Robinson’s ability to neutralize Flowers in individual match ups will be important as it will free up Norwell to help Brandon Linder take on mammoth run stuffer Danny Shelton on early downs and help create a crease for the running game. Corey Grant vs. Patriots LinebackersWhat the Patriots linebackers have in experience, they lack in overall speed. We saw as much last year when Grant was gashing the Patriots in the first half before they mysteriously decided to move away from what was working. Hackett won’t make the same mistake twice, and I fully expect Grant to get at least ten touches this week with specialized niche packages.Yannick Ngakoue vs. Trent BrownNgakoue was a monster last week despite not showing up on the stat sheet, but I fully expect that to change this week against Trent Brown. Ngakoue is an absolute nightmare matchup for the 6’8” 380 pound tackle who largely struggles with speed moves and can get sluggish in his pass sets. Conversely, Ngakoue may have a tough time setting the edge in the run game against Brown this week due to his 150 pound differential, so don’t be surprised if Yannick and Calais Campbell flip on early downs where Wash is reading run.Myles Jack vs. NFL OfficialsWe all know that Clete Blakeman and his crew absolutely extinguished the Jaguars Super Bowl hopes, not only with the “Myles Jack wasn’t down” quick whistle, but the phantom pass interference on AJ Bouye in the first half, etc. My understanding is the NFL has already acknowledged the missed calls that prevented this franchise from making its first championship appearance in franchise history, so it will be interesting to see if there is any directive from the league to let some “close” plays go. I hate to gripe about officiating (my father was a FIFA/Major League Soccer referee for 20 years), but this was egregious incompetence at the hands of Blakeman and his crew.Final PredictionIf there was ever a time to beat the Patriots...The time is now. Sure, there is a long season ahead of us with fourteen more games, but if not now, then when? Expect a lot of field goals in this one, and I’m visualizing a two minute drill situation for Bortles where he does just enough with his legs to get the Jaguars in field goal range for a game winning Lambo kick.Jaguars 16 Patriots 13
