Default Lynnhaven Inlet - VB City Council

VCAN Members & Public Access Supporters,

Virginia Coastal Access Now (VCAN) and local wade fishermen are going to speak at the Tuesday Nov. 6th 2007 Virginia Beach City Council (VBCC) meeting in support of your right to legally and safely wade fish Lynnhaven Inlet and the area around the Lesner Bridge.

The recently re-posted and enforced “no swimming or wading” at the base of the Lesner Bridge has restricted your historical public access to this Virginia Coastal waterfront location. VCAN does not agree with the City’s interpretation on and/or random enforcement of this City code. The issuance of tickets for wade fishing at Lynnhaven Inlet and/or the requirement to leave the water is unacceptable.

We ask everyone to please support this effort and, if at all possible, make the VBCC meeting which starts at 6pm. Show up, even if your going to be late as the open session will probably be the last item on the agenda?!

Should you want to address the Council, you must register to speak by calling the city clerks office at 757-385-4303 before the Nov. 6th VBCC meeting. If you do, just call the clerk’s office and request to speak at the Tuesday Nov. 6th open session on wade fishing Lynnhaven Inlet. You’ll be asked to give them your name, address, and phone number along with your request.

If you can’t make it to the VBCC meeting, an email to the Council at \n ctycncl@vbgov.com This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it in support of wade fishing the Lesner Bridge & Lynnhaven Inlet is appreciated.

A touch over a dozen of us present last night for the meeting.

Obviously, this will not be a quick resolution and we got snowballed by the city as they had EMS, Fire Dept., Police Dept. all waiting to tell of the reasons why we shouldn't be out there.

Bottom line was at the end of the meeting we met with all the emergency folks and discussed some issues and at least we walked away with both sides wanting to discuss a possible compromise.

Time will tell, but this will take time!
