Post Week Ending 6/2/07 Fishing Rpt.

Pier's -

Pretty much the same as last week, with plenty of small flounder in the bay and croaker after dark. Blues have been sporadic and slowing down compared to a few weeks ago. Cownose and Southern Rays have shown up so make sure your drag is set accordingly or your rod might end up going for a swim. Crabs have started to emerge, so check your bait often. Small spot have also been caught on BWFB.

Surf -

Still some Blues at Rudee early in the morning on cut bait, with plenty of small flounder. Puppy drum can be found at Lynnhaven Inlet/Lesner along with some flounder (some keepers), but you need to be paitient and work at them. Saltdawg gave us our first Ft. Story report of the year as he landed a bunch of small roundhead and some critters. DS422 and his son Adam loaded up on some small croakers from Chix Beach on Friday night, and lost a flounder as well.

Boat -

While the Black and Red Drum action is still going strong this week over by the Eastern Shore, the HOT TICKET this week was heading out to the CLT for some Spadefish action. If you never had battled a spadefish before, they are some tough fighters and tasty as well. DB77 went out this week and had no problem enticing the fish to bite and caught spades up to 8 pounds. The other news of the week is that Wallace's in Hampton weighed in a few cobia late in the week. This should have cobia anglers foaming at the mouth once this storm front passes through. Some nice flounder were also caught in the bay during the week.

With the water heating up fast, I expect that the piers will be crowded at the end with anglers in search of cobia this week. I also expect to see some Sheepshead showing up from the boats, and possibly some scattered Spanish showing up as well.

Have a good week!
