Teddy Blank wins Flounder Tourney with 8-pounder

WACHAPREAGUE -- The 17th annual Spring Flounder Tournament that concluded during the weekend proved to be one of the most productive in the history of the event. For the first time in the tournament the top five fish in the event weighed over seven pounds.Maryland angler Teddy Blank won the tournament with an 8-pound doormat.

Second place went to West Virginia angler Ray Huff with a flounder weighing 7 pounds, 11.5 ounces.Third place went to Delaware angler Troy Hazzard with a 7-pound, 11-ounce flounder.Bill Huff from West Virginia earned fourth place with a 7-pound, 2-ounce flounder, while Virginia angler David Phares took fifth place with his 7-pound, 1-ounce flounder.


The tournament offered a $1,200 top prize for the heaviest flounder caught.
Other prizes include $600 for second place, $300 for third place, a rod and reel combo for fourth place and a $100 gift certificate to Capt. Zed's Bait & Tackle Shop for fifth place.


Even with the tougher flounder regulations in effect this year, an 18.5-inch minimum length and five fish per angler, those fishing in the Wachapregue area during the week found the flounder fishing to be good. Capt. Zed's reported weighing a good number of 4, 5 and 6-pound flounder during the week.
The Spring Flounder Tournament was sponsored by the Hotel Wachapreague, Island House Restaurant and Capt. Zed's Bait and Tackle.
