I usually change it after about 8 hours of fishing. I do run my fingers up it every once in awhile also, if it feels knicked up or rough i'll change it out. I been using Berkly big game 50lb and it has been holding up extremely well.

Active Angler all of the above, If I'm out on an overnighter I change all rigs and shockers when the sun comes up, could be 24hrs or could be 12hrs, or when they get chewed up. I do retie when the knot looks damaged but will not replace the shocker. Tying an albright makes the knot susceptible to damage so its more important then other knots to stay on top of it.
The good thing about 80lb shock leader is that even with some knicks its damn near impossible to break, the bad thing is that the knot takes on more damage so you need to keep on it.
I think I get 300yds for $9.00, so changing it out and tossing is is no big deal.
Active Angler i use the albright to connect to the running line and usually a palomar to the swivel/hook after a break off, its easy to tie when its dark
