    Default quality spinner needed

I am looking for a very good spinner reel for tossing lighter stuff. Any suggestions? Looking at the van staal, but big $$$. Anything comparable? Would like to use it for small cut baits and tossing lures in the surf and use it for kings, hake, flounder, croaker, etc,,, (small variety of fish), but still have enough line in case a striper or red decides to grab it. Also will be using it in the yak. Thats one of the reasons I like the van staal (sealed). I have been dunked before in the yak and really like the sound of the van staal. I am willing to fork out the money but wondering if there is anything more reasonably priced that is as good? Thanks

I thought about recommending that one, however its just about as expensive as the Van Staal

Yeah, and to be honest, I think the Van Staal is a better reel (it kills me to say that). Both, however, are out of my price range.

I consider all yak and surf spinning reels disposable. Get a season out of them and keep them clean and lubbed during the season and then get a new one for $50-$80 next year. Just make sure they have a great drag system and have fun landing large on small stuff.

VS reels need to be sent away for service every so often, I think it is an expensive deal as well. Just something else to think about.

for the money the Penn Captiva series is great!!! I think Bev stocks them. the 6000 is the perfect size for a 10' rod, or you could always go with the Shimanno baitrunner. Next time I see you on the beach I'll let you try out the Penn on a 10' tica. and my 5000 captiva has been under in a yak wipe out on the beach and all I had to do was rinse and lube and you could never tell it was in the wash. the 6000 has pulled quite a few stripers outta the indian river inlet

    Scott,

try to find Mitchell Nautil 6500 or 7500 in yellow... you can still find them for a little over 100$... waterproof and a real workhorse (lower gears compare to the black ones)... comes with 2 extra spools... i do have 2 in use (3 years and still going strong) and 2 more NIB...

if you're using from a yak that's as good as it gets unless you want to spend 600$ for a VS 200...

pm me and i'll let you know where i saw one for sale NIB... 7500 i believe...
