    Default New Daiwa practice casting

Finally got the reel from HJs and took it to the field today. Sealine x 30 shv with the mag kit. loaded with 20 lb test and it is on a 1509 rainshadow rod. Right out the box it cast very nice adjusted the mags a bit and it cast very nice adjusted the spool tension a little and it cast even nicer. I am by no means a great caster but I was getting 80yrds with little or no effort with a 3oz stuffed in a tennis ball, last couple casts put on a plain 8oz sinker and that thing just sails out of sight long walk to and from but had to try it, like this reel over the 525 mag lots of line and got the knobby adjustments. Thanks for the lessons Gary smooth smooth and smooth. Thank Evan for suggesting the reel! Ted

have the exact same setup,,,1509 and the 30,,,went out to the ball field yesterday and threw all 3 of my reels and (525mag, 535gs, 30shv) and measured along with 2 different rods,,,the 525 and 30 were close in distance.

Hey Coop, Whats your setup for the field? Tennis ball, just the sinker, ect ect. I am going back to the field today and going to set it up with a 8oz ff with a big rubber shad attached. Trying to get as close as possible to the real thing. The 525mag is a fine reel I just like the line capacity of the 30 and it just feels like it belongs on the rod . How do you like that 1509?

Really like the 1509,,,and agree, the 30 feels right with that rod,,,by far my favorite, but its my first non off the shelf rod,,,buying gary's used 1569 tomorrow and going to get the fusion next,,,will probably like the 1569 the least due to it being a little weaker but am sure I will like it way more than the off the shelf rods I have, so I figured I would give it a try.

Here is what I came up with distance,,,I used an 8 ounce sinker with a tennis ball and also threw it once without the ball,,,the longest throw, was with the 1509 and 30 at the baseball diamond,,,they have it well marked but still had to pace of more of the distance, so it's not exact but probably pretty close,,,slight breeze in the face.

    1509 and 30,,,380'
    tica12 and 30,,,350'

without ball on the 1509 and 30,,,440'

The 1509 is one powerfull rod, I am going to try the 8oz in the tennis ball, then try my experiment with the shad body, I appreciate the info! My casting ability is getting better with time I am trying to get the right technique down before going for the distance. You are achieving some great distances with those setups I can only hope for those results... Thanks Ted (Wish list FUSION)

Ted, tough to load the 1509 with a 3 oz sinker and tennis ball, maybe 5oz's total,,,I think if you stuff an 8 in there, she should go much further than 80 yards.

did not use the mags in the 30, except on the 525, which is magnetic control,,,personally, 525 still my favorite.

BTW, just got a 1569,,,I hate to say it, but for some reason, I like that rod better than the 1509,,,maybe because of the way I cast,,,was going to get the fusion, but that 1569 is near perfect for me,,,may have to get another.

The Mags for this reel are sold in a kit for $65.You can install yourself or purchase the reel from a dealer who should have the kit and they will install it.
Ya Coop went back to the field and tested a 8oz in the tennis ball and easy getting 100 yrds. Also tried the 8oz and the shad body got it shaped as close to a bunker head as possible ff rigged it and was getting 100 yrds. Dam shad came apart after 3 casts though, anyway I know the 1509 needs the load and it worked out well with the 8oz and tennis ball, hopefully get the same results on the beach..... I am glad you like the 1569 I have heard good things about the rod might have to test drive one myself............Ted

The 30 comes stock with brakes which you may change yourself, 2 reds and 2 whites. If you can cast the squidder then I am positive that you can cast the 30 without the mags, I went with the mags because I need the extra control because I am not a very good caster yet (And maybe never will be) and I can adjust the knobby magnet knob without opening the reel and messin with the brake blocks. I am new to the conventional stuff so control is an issue. I dont know much about the abu's the 525mag is a fine reel. Ted
