    Default Drum Fishing with Braid

I need to respool a reel and am considering using a braid. I'll continue to use mono leaders.

Do you think braided line will negatively impact drum fishing (i.e. having line too visible)? I know they tend to be few & far between at AI and don't want my tackle hurting my chances...

I don't think it would be a big deal if your using a 4 to 5 foot leader. But if you throw over the bar I wouldn't use braid.

if you are worried about visibility with braid.... I just found white braid, spooled my new garcia with it and going to give it a test tonight.

***DISCLAIMER: I've never IN MY LIFE Caught a Drum*****

    But.......

as for visibility - my assumption is it wouldn't matter as long as you're using a mono (or even floro!) shock leader.

Think about fly fishing - people use this thick fly line that sticks out like a sore thumb - but with 9 or 10 feet of leader/tippet, the trout don't care - since (even if they see it) they don't "associate" the fly line w/ the "bait"

Same thing - i would think - applies to saltwater. If you put enough low vis leader between your running line and the bait, you'll be ok.

I am very interested in this white braid for muskie fishing. Many of the lakes/rivers I fish are clear and the usual color of braid really stands out. In highly the highly pressured waters I fish I believe braid can/will hurt your chances on clear water/sunny days.It has been said that white colored fishing line is not visable near the surface since the fish are looking up at the bait and cannot see the line against the backdrop of the sky. Seems like a perfect choice on a cloudy day. If your fishing a high riding bait like a bucktail.

I don't like the braid if your going over the bar because that stuff is way overrated when it comes to fishing around rocks/sand/shells, in my view. It will/can cut very easily. In those situations I believe you are better off with mono.

Now get me around some weeds/timber....braid is the king!

I always thought that i wouldnt like braid but after trying it its great. You can get more on a spool and i dont think you can snap it unless its rubbed through. My only concern is it cutting through the knnot where its tied to my shock leader.

Depending on the line style of the braid itll corrode your aluminum spool, due to holding and wicking in saltwater.
