Ok, this is probalby the last report I'll put in this thread and the final will go in the gear review after this weekend of fishing.

I threw at lunch again today with the glove this time and with different weights. I was tossing the TICA 120 -130yards everytime with a 6 oz and I was able to hit that only once in a while with the 8 oz. I did hit my goal of >400 feet with a 138 yard cast. I think I could hit this consistently if my line didn't get loose mid-way through the toss, I need to mag the reel I think. On the really long one I had a smooth pull of the line the entire time, never got loose, I also had it at least 100-120 ft in the air (don't know how well the bait would stay on after splash down).

I threw the OM with a 10oz, that will wear you out after 10 tosses. I was equal or better then the TICA on my throws with the OM with 4 oz more weight. I barely had any over-runs on the OM and I think that goes back to the stiffness of the rod and a steady launch compared to the whip of the TICA. Hit >400 with this one, tossed past the 138 yds I threw with the TICA.

I'm pretty sure I could go over 400 with the spinner too with the adjustments I made to my toss today. I think I'll be very happy with 100yds 8'n'bait. I know I could do it, it's just a matter of doing it with a rig that will catch fish.

Ben - what type of case are you using for the spinner? Off the ground as well? I've need to improve my form and was just curious whether you did anything different for spinning vs conventional as far as general casting types/techniques...

Nothing different on the spinner except more force since I don't have to worry about backlash. I agree with the stuff that I've read so far that maximum force comes in only in the second half of the cast, if I go at it right off the ground it throws the timing off. I also had to experiment with my drops (amount of line from top eye to weight), longer for less weight and shorter for more weight. Heavy is generally 1/2 rod length and light is 3/4 to this point, may change as I get better. I'm trotting out the hatteras style today to see how that works.

http://www.hatterasoutfitters.com/vi...teras_cast.htm great video but no instruction, hopefully I won't break any windows. I have a feeling that this one will go where ever it wants.

All this work just to cast over the bar, all I have to do is learn how to read the water a little better...that's free and I've spent $1000 upgrading my stuff instead.

True- plenty of fish closer in, but when you read the water and decide that the best place is "out there" it is nice to have the ability to get there....

Well I can get there with the hatteras cast, man was that thing flying, got 10 more yards easy with the TICA and a 6, didn't throw the OM today. Was hitting near 150 yards often, about half of the 20 casts I threw. About 450 feet, I hope that will carry over to casting bait also. Like I said if I can hit 100-110 yds I'll be happy. I may have to go to a drum rig to do it...suits me fine in sept =).
