conv setup thoughts

here is what i am considering

rod

reel
Daiwa SL-X40HA spooled with 20 lb suffix or ironsilk
Daiwa Saltist STT40 spooled with 20 lb suffix or ironsilk

I prefer the 4.9 ratio and like the larger spool capacity of the 40 series
Is it too big? im not a fan of braid.
Daiwa told me the saltist has the same breaking system as the sealine-x, but not the speed shaft. anyone cast this reel?
im leaning toward the ocean master with the saltist. the fuji guides and billet construction are atractive.
this sound right?

I have the Daiwa 40SHV still getting used to tossing it but have to say I like it I don't think the 40 is to big and like the amount of line it holds as for the rods I like the Tica but any of your choices would work...

yeah i did sea that thread, but i thought the reels were all the same height, just diff widths. i havent seen em side by side

the 40 is very large. we do most of our drum and striper fishing with 20's sometimes 30's if we have to wade out then spike on the beach. We also use the 30's for cobia. you won't run out of line with the 30 unless tangling with very large shark or giant ray. I personally think the 40 is overkill in line capacity and underkill in the casting department but that is my opinion. as far as rods it depends on how much weight you want to throw and what for, most like the ticas as they are light weight and load very easily. the OC is a tad heavy but the beefy model will throw anything you want if you can load it.

also the 6:1 on the smaller diawas is very powerful it doesnt feel weak like most high speed reels.

again these are my opinions and if you want to catch very large sharks and rays the 40 may be the way to go.

It's all personal preference and the species your after. For a standard 8 n bait the 40 is way too much reel in my opinion. I've never fished the OM, but I've heard it's a great heavy rod for the $$.
