Default SWEET SPOT

I've been pumping the locals in Charleston for information on where to find bull reds in the surf. They have one of the most prolific puppy drum fisheries in the world but only see occasional bull pics during the winter when they all school up. I found that they mostly use small bait rods for whiting and trout and no one really uses a heaver becase all you get are sharks. There is the occasional red caught but nothing to write home about. I got an email from a guy about a spot not two miles by Yak that only has boat access, what's better is the shoals off the front of it. I'm planning to put in on the beach in front of our place and yak it over to the shoals, should take about a half hour. I was told to watch for big hammer heads as they roam the area, I'm not too worried about them it's the bulls and tigers that have my attention in my now smaller yak. Then there is the current...I'll have to go at dead low and then head back on the incoming, should be great fun. Only wish I could do it at night.

If I can't get them here I'm not going to catch much on vacation but kings and blues. There is a beach renourishment going on as well that may push all the fish north off this island. If you look there is also another set of shoals even further outside that would be awesome, I don't think I have the guts to do it that far out in the ocean solo though, one big wave and I'm having a very bad day.

Reds are so easy to catch in CHS that it's not even considered sport by the locals.
All of those spots look darned nice, but I wouldn't go out to the far shoal in a yak, especially alone. Too many things can happen.

Night time in that area is a dinner bell for Charkey, may want to rethink... Bulls congregate at the mouths, they're just too darned mean to mess with in a yak, or even worse if you take a spill.
You'll be a moving dinner plate with the bait fish on board.

He does, he's just "concerned" about becoming Bull bait.

Just kidding, a number of us CB included, have played in "occupied" waters.
