Fishing around Newport, RI

I'm headed up to RI in mid-August to visit some relatives. I've never been up there, and I plan to bring a rod with me. Any suggestions for fishing near Newport? If anyone's been out on a party boat, I'd like to know how it went, looks like they even fish for tuna from them up there!
