I don't like the cape point, I like the original. the reel seat on the capse point looks like crap to me. I can see it now fighting a big shark and the reel seat breaks, off comes my reel stripping all the guides with it. the original one is more durable.

Yeah, I was looking at them again today. There isn't much holding the reel on.....
And they cost about 40% more. ($130 I think)
I mean yeah, they're real purdy but.....
I don't need a "fast reel removal".

Yeah i have to say with me living about 2 min from BPS i have alot of time to go in and look at all the surf rods and id have to aggree that the reel seat looks a bit weak for a heaver setup! IMOP i would have say that the OM looks like a stronger rod ( in the handle and reel seat ) at least to be a big heaver which i beleive it is from what ive seen and thrown. overall tho im sure that the Cape Point is a great rod whether you wrap the handle or leave it blank...im sure you'll like it, just might take a bit to get used to that small reel seat and the bare handle. Let us know how you like and what reel you put on it to match!

I have two cape point specials

I do not wrap them.

I have never heard of the reel seat breaking. I have a Penn 113 LHW mounted on one of mine and a Penn 545 Mag-t on the other. I have two squidders that I can put on the rods when I want a lighter setup. I have a Penn 65 that is rigged for use on piers. I use the rod clamps supplied with the reels (none on the 65). My reels are not going anywhere. If you are going after any fish that weighs up to 100 pounds you should use a reel clamp or expect the reel seat to fail. I can cast 125 yards with my 545 and eight and bait. I like the Fuji Alconite guides. I like the LS-7 reel seat. I like the weight. The only negative aspect of the rod is that it scratches very easily. Over all I think the Cape Point Special rods are great

the cape point and the origional are the exact same blank but the cape point uses that reel seat and no wrap for weight reduction purposes.

Default Cape Point

I was talking to some guys on P&S and they recommended using the rubber shrink grip. I ordered some today.
