Ok - some of you know I play sax in a few different bands.
Well, I just got a call to play a gig next wednesday - unbelievably made for a surf fisherman/musician - it's RIGHT on the beach (I mean LITERALLY ON THE BEACH) in Sandy Hook lol Doesn't get any more perfect than that (well ok - could be on AI)- I'm seriously considering bringing my gear and fishing that night right after the gig! Anyone know the Sandy Hook area - give me ideas of where to fish that's near "Beach Area E"? Here's the gig info for anyone that wants to stop by (it's free) Beach Concert Schedule I'll be playing with the Philly Funk Authority |

You can get it online, but it's only for freshies, no salt water required.
https://www1.wildlifelicense.com/nj/ Would you believe they actually make you fill out a child support statement too? UNREAL NJ!!!!! You'll need a $50. night parking/fishing permit, link is here: http://www.nps.gov/gate/shu/shu_rules_permits.htm Maybe you can pay the regular $6 parking and park in the regular lot????? No dogs allowed on the ocean beaches. Areas of the beach are closed for nesting birds.

well - didn't fish there - between the permit hassles and the prospect of lugging both my fishing and music gear, a late wednesday night and getting up at 4:30 for work the next day...just wasn't in the cards.
But I did check it out a bit and watch a few people fish - no one caught anything that I could see (was there from 4:30 - 8:30) but it is a VERY deep beach (at least where i was) the boats could come up within casting distance - the beach was more of a "cliff" very deep blue water with the buoys very close in...so I would imagine you could get some great fish - I think I'll take a trip back in the fall Beautiful night all the same. |
