John Jensen of Egg Harbor City caught a 10-pound flounder Wednesday in Great Bay, according to Violet Meyer at Chestnut Neck Boat Yard in Port Republic.

Meyer said there are lots of shorts. Rick Ferris of Petersburg caught a 9.64-pound flounder off Kennedy Park in Somers Point, and Bob Lindquist of Northfield picked one going 7.46, reports Barrett. Andy Arleth, a 94-year-old from Somers Point, was fishing with son Gerry and son-in-law Nick Regine, and gave the lads an education by picking up the only three keepers while fishing in the Margate back bays.

Meyer and his son Codey are catching weakfish in the mouth of the Mullica River. She said early morning high water and shedder crab is the best combination for catching weakfish. Meyer said to jig bucktails or top and bottom rigs slowly to attract the weakies.

Meyer said with flounder, weakfish, striped bass, bluefish and white perch, the spring fishing in the Mullica River/Great Bay area is the best she's seen in five years.
