Default Ocean City, MD Offshore Report 7-12-08

Its tournament time in Ocean City and this weekend the biggest Tuna Tournament of the year, the Ocean City Tuna Tournament out of the OC Fishing Center. Participation is good with 126 boats, just three boats shy of 2007 which had 129. I see this as good news considering fuel prices and the economy. Maybe it is not as bad as the media tells us.

The bite really hasn't changed over the last several weeks with the Hambone, Hot Dog, Massey's Canyon and other inshore lumps producing loads of BFT, a decent amount of Mahi, and an occasional YFT. Yesterday, a 60# Cobia was caught on a blue white Ilander at the Hambone. I've heard of several other Cobias caught there as well. Most of the charters get their over and under BFT and a good number of the private boats are limiting out as well.

It looks like there is some warm water fingers entering the canyon areas which should equate to YFT, Wahoo and Marlin will enter the area and hopefully stick around for the rest of the season.

Here is the water temp shot for today:

Sunset Marina Report 07-11-08:
"Pumpin Hard" caught 2 bluefin and a dolphin at the Hambone. "Muff Diver" caught a bluefin at the Hambone. "Espadon" caught a bluefin at the Hotdog. "Cyntinory" released 3 bluefin at the Hambone. "Fin-Ness" released 5 bluefin and kept 1 at the Hotdog. "Pipe Dreamer" caught a bluefin at the Teacup. "Let it Ride" caught a bluefin at the Massey's. "Crystals's Caper" caught a bluefin and a dolphin at the Teacup. "Third Wish" caught a bluefin and a yellowfin at the Elephant's trunk. "The Zipper" released a bluefin and kept one just south of the sausages.

Sunset Marina Report 07-10-08:
"Sea Wolf" fished at the Hambone today and caught 1 yellowfin and 1 dolphin. "Cyntinory" also fished the Hambone and caught 2 lbuefins and 1 dolphin. "Marli" went to Masseys and caught 5 bluefins and kept 2 and 6 dolphins.
