Sarturday the 15th some friends started trolling the Hot Dog area with no success and the boats were thicker than the fish.
Decided to make the run east,They needed good weather, nice seas as they were cruising in a 21 ft boat with a 175 Merc single. Total time going out 57 miles 3.0 hrs. They started chunking butterfish in about 150 ft and got the slick going first drift nadda second drift BAM rod goes off and the thing was so deep 6oz of lead with a whole butter fish, they didn't know what they hooked into for about 35min and one of them caught a glimpse he says TUNA YEE HA first time out that far for these guys 35 min later 61 lb Yellowfin, as they were fighting this fish the other rod goes this time it slammed my friend into the back of the boat before he could get the belt on, 1 hr later 400lb tiger shark. Fresh tuna, friend brought me a couple nice steaks for the grill Nice trip for 3 guys who had never been out there before............ Thats why I needed those good weather reports thank you very much hope to get out there myself sooner than later............. |

It was ridiculous, the chesapeake tower is what...12 miles out of Rudee? I saw some of the smallest boats I've every seen in the ocean out there that day. Absolutely scary that people risk that......I'm not sure if you can tell the size of some of the boats in this picture.....but man.....I swear I saw a 17' CC with a 70 on the back.....I think I'd be afraid to take that into the inlet, much less 12 miles out.

well the thing wth small boats is this, you really have to pick 'n choose your days and you better damn site be listening to the WX on the VHF and keep a look-out for storm clouds
I had a friend who had a 17' Whaler, would load it up wth gas cans and run out 20+ miles to the Jackspot and troll all day, "your nuts" I would tell him |
