AI trophy weekend. Monster stripers. I caught a 45in and a 51in both released Friday 7pm and 11pm. The 51 was a monster with huge body and no doubt over 50lb. Glad I released her because if it was a new record it would have only been one for 2 hours as 8nbait caight the new SR at 57.4 at 1 am Sat. What a weekend. 3 - 50lb+ stripers and many in 40s. My 51 was my personal biggest ever. Wished I got a girth but what a horse. I was too worried about the release and a pic so details slipped my mind. FISH ON![/quote] congrats on the huge striped one. to bad the record fish was caught this week because that picture would have made the coastal fisherman cover if not. tight lines Jeff

Thanks guys, To put things in perspective I fished 21 hrs after that fish and never got another hit. We post all these fish and people think we slay them but you sure have to pay your dues cause they are far and few between. Wished I had gotten a girth but she was an easy 50 lber. After measuring Garys I would say mine was probably about a 29in girth which puts her about 52 to 53 lbs by the math. I knew it was close to the record at that POINT in time but it was too close for me to kill her. You gain some real respect for these monsters and when you think of the gauntlet they had to run to get that big it just feels too good to watch her swim away. I will keep the 30s for eating.

Fishing trip on AI on 10/10/06 - 10/11/06
I took dad out for a little surf fishing on Assateague last night. We arrived approximately 6pm and had a tough time finding a decent place to fish because of the high tide and lack of waves. We were joined by David (OCSnapper) and a few hours later with Scott (Coop). Fishing was slow, but what a gorgeous evening! The moon was high in the sky and we barely needed lights to see. Morning came rather quickly for me (cause I had a little nap) and we continued to fish hard until noon today. David had a nice striper on and got it to the suds when it came unbuttoned and swam away. Thanks a lot to both David and Scott for the great eggs, sausage and biscuits. They taste so good on the beach! :chef: As you can see by the pictures below, it was tough fishing.

Looks like you had a big day at the beach, of course you had to rest up before anyone caught the next record breaker. Take it from me, there is nothing better than a good nap at the beach.

I talked with a few folks over the past few days and it seems the summertime critters are approaching. A 5 foot sand tiger was caught last week, a marble sting ray and a few kingfish were caught on AI. Yakin time is right around the corner. Sooner than ya'll think! :-)
