Default MD Inshore Fishing Reports 30 Sep - 5 Oct 08

Well folks, time to brush off the dust and head out if you haven't been out. The fall season has officially kicked off.
The Red Drum are pounding the shores along Assateague, MD and VA. Go on out and lock onto one of the beastly freight trains.

Bays, rivers, lakes and such:
The cooler water are encouraging more bites this past week, action all over the place.

Be sure to dress in layers, the mornings can be quite chilly with the mid-day getting quite warm. In the evening, the temps fall fast once the sun sets, so be dressed for it!

Now get out there and play, let us know how ya'll fared, ya hear?

in waning numbers over the next two weeks most likely. If we get another big NE blow or a spell of hard west wind dropping water temps through the floor it may happen more quickly.

Just hook the whole head on at least an 8/0 circle hook.
No need to cut the lower jaw off, it gives the crabs something to chew on...

Heads and tails work best for me...both stay on the hook the longest.

what I mean by tails is the last cut of meat before the tail.

I use that last piece of meat before the tail on my distance rod.

everyone says that Jim, all ya have to do is some surgery on the other chunks to get you there, hell I've seen critter gitter cut a head down to that size. All you need is a good sharp knife and some imagination, be careful to not smash it.

fished the drum tourney form friday night 7pm till monday eve 5pm with nothing caught but a seagull, small blue, and a little sandbar. I went out again yesterday (tuesday), the osv is now open all the way to the line, fished just short of the line with nothing caught but a few skate. The drum have eluded me again for this season. I caught mine last year and that was all it took to give me the bug. Now frustrated that I have put in over 90 hours in five days with nothing to show for it.

What a beautiful day on A.I. today. Got there around noon with an out going tide. Set up just past the Bull Pen. Had 4 rods with mullet rigs and 2 with drum rigs with cut bunker. Nothing on the drum rigs all day, but tore the snapper blues up with mullet. Within 2 min. of putting the first rod in the water, had one hooked up. Most around the 12-14" range, but had a couple 17-19" blues. Brought in one 17" flounder as well. Wind was very calm until around 4pm, then it started picking up. Left around 6pm. Hopefully this nice weather will stick around for a little while longer.

Went fishing in the early am and caught the incoming...Managed 3 reds in the early am and then the bluefish came in after 8 and took control of everything. Threw whole spot just to keep bait in the water, tho still very brief. Blues were as thick as I have seen them. Got sick and tired of them destroying my bait in a matter of minutes...ended up leaving. Nice morning. Saw Jim and his new ride...very nice!

Been a very blessed season with reds...Last year, couldn't buy one.
