Just returned from OBX not much action last week. Pulled sea mullett, blow toads, oyster toads, kingfish from the Surf. Some scattered reports of drum but never hooked up. Went out on a boat and pulled in some nice size sea bass. No stripers or blues??? Hopefully the season takes off for us soon! Hope to get down to AI with you guys for some toothy ones once the water warms.

Fished today from late morning to early afternoon,,,found a pretty sweet spot on the nothern end,,,nothing but smooth doggies, skates and a couple snappers early,,,an hour just before leaving, had a rip roaring blazing screamer with rod way down and then jumping,,,needless to say, she never got hooked,,, :censored: :wallb: :censored: :wallb: ,,,I blew a head gasket!!!,,,its nice to here the clicker really go off, I miss that sound, I just wished I didnt miss that fish!,,,6 hours and I missed the only real fish I had all day,,,feels like its going to be a repeat performance of last spring,,,I hope not,,,I guess thats fishing.

Sorry I missed you guys, drove down a mile and didnt see any trucks and decided to camp out there,,,I was short on fishing time,,,I was south of that crab pot,,,very sweet looking spot,,,bar very close in to the north of pot and she just opened up right in front of me,,,wish I could of stayed thru the night,,,I am sure there would be another one out there with the tide coming in,,,next time.

Man do I feel your pain. Was it on a head? What size hooks you use. Are they offset? Caught one on a huge head and an offset 10/0 Demon Sunday but I think I like the larger hooks with the larger heads. Think I got lucky but Myles lost a fish on a 15/0 Monday but caught one on a 10/0 so who knows. I been using the 10s all spring but they just don't look right with a head. I stopped using Gamis years ago as they cost me many fish but they swear by em down OBX way. Watched OBX Jimmy lose 3 or 4 fish with Gamis from the spike.

Dave, it was on a 10/0 circle demon with a small chunk,,,I throw out 2 with 12/0 circle demon, 1 with a large chunk and the other a head, I throw out the other 2 with 10/0 and small chunks,,,I can toss those out there far but I swear it seems like those 10's are hard to stick in a LARGE stripers mouth,,,I think I may try a smaller chunk on the 12's and let them fly,,,it just seems so much hook for a small chunk, not sure whether stripers care about all that hook exposed,,,I have had a great hook up ratio since the end of november, maybe statistics has just caught up with me,,,I guess I'll keep the same routine up, but I just think those 10's look too small in a large stripers mouth,,,may have to switch to all 12's,,,I just dont know :? .

All my circle demons are off set and razor sharp,,,I think that was the bulk of my problem last spring,,,I used those right out of the box and missed quite a few fish,,,I really didnt know any better,,,use a dremmel tool now and they are sharp and will take a sharpener and sharpen as necessary.

If you are heading out this weekend, good luck and go getem,,,hopefully I can get out and put some serious time in sunday night and monday and get one too stick .

Scott we were down past the BP don't be sorry, fished with Sam and a friend of mine for 15 hr and not much to say but snapper blues doggies and one or two skate left Sam on the beach so I hope he has some good news about the rest of the day. The day started out looking like it was going to be good had small blues right off the bat then nothing for a wail and then nothing for a wail OPPS did I say that all ready other then that had a great out on the beach sorry we didn't hook up and that you missed that fish

Thanks Scott. Sure sounds like you had everything I can imagine should have worked. Thats OK it was probably just a 60 lber and those huge lips were just too much for that 10/0 Sorry not funny. I am still gonna continue with the 10/0s on small chunks. The only thing larger I have are 16s whcih really seem too big. I need to get some 15s.
