The fishing was unbelievable last week for stripers if you were fortunate enough to be in the area where the fish were. Heard numerous fish caught by each angler. Truly a great striper run on our shores so far. Hopefully this weekend will be a continuation of good catches. Heard a couple reports of an occasional black drum and snapper blues as well.
Feel free to post your reports here, fish or no fish.

I decided I would check out Assateague Island yesterday afternoon and see how much mess that storm had made. I called the Ranger Station and the woman I spoke with told me the OSV was open. So, I thought I might as well go fishing!
I got all geared up, went to Bucks to pick up some fresh and they stopped me at the door and everyone was in a frantic! The BEACH IS CLOSED!!! I thought, uh oh... I am going to have to... not the WALK OVER!!! But, I decided to pick up a few bunker and head down anyway. Well, I got to the pumps and the gate was still up... So, I aired down, snuck out just waiting for the ranger to shew me off. The beach was pretty torn up. Tide was at PEAK high and I knew it, so I set up shop and started fishing with 12 oz and chunks. After about 20 minutes, I caught and released this beauty and then nothing but a few large smoothies and skates. Dave joined me after about a half hour and set up. The Seaweed was horrible, but I have seen worse. We will see what the wind will bring later this week.

Fished the delaware beach today at keybox rd. Two nice doggies 39" and 44", great fillets for the grill. One skate other than that. None of the bait shops had fresh bunker today in the delaware area. The frozen I bought just about turned to chum when it thawed, soft and mushy. When I cleaned the two doggies, the bellies were packed with small 2" crabs, one had 13 crabs in its stomach and the other had 9. At least there is forage out there for the fish. Gonna try again tomorrow while Pattie is working.

Fished 66th street beach for about five hours today, caught my first legal rock from the surf. 29.5 inches, first fish I did'nt release in a long time, wife cooked it up and it was great. Caught it with fresh cut bunker on a fishfinder rig. Hopefully I can figure out how to attach a couple of pictures. Thanks to everyone on this site, I have learned alot over the last 8 months.

Fished last night for about an hour and left because the grass was intolerable. Left line out for 5 minutes and spent twenty minutes clearing grass off my line. I don't have the patience to deal with that kind of stuff

I also fished AI from 9:00 to about 3:00 Sat.
UGH! grass, kelp, seawood or whatever it was lots of it and flies UGH! I snapped my line at the shock leader with a fresh head and rig on it then I snagged a it couple hours later and the head was still in tack. At least I did not lose my sinker and rig. |
