Grass wasn't as bad on the VA side...it was there, just not too too bad.

found this one on the outgoing friday. perfect meal sized 30", but it was released, as i was in unfamiliar territory, and didn't want the baggage.

The first pic is adjusted, the second picture is more representative of the conditions that day.

Might have to sneak off mid week again here soon, if the north side gets opened up more.

Nice catches for everyone who dealt with the grass the past week! You deserved every inch of those fish caught.

I took my boys down for a quick day trip to AI on Saturday. Left at 3:00 AM, arrived at HT for bait at 6:15, fishing south of BP by 7:30.

Wow, lots of grass, my boys rigs were a constant battle, I found a spot that with a longish cast, I could avoid the sea grass for the most part.

No Rocks on this trip, got two nice dogs (released) and numerous skates.

I did see a woman and her partner drag in nice Rock just as we were driving North looking for a new spot.

Great day to be out there, kids had a blast even though they didn't catch one this trip. We'll give it a try next weekend again....

Hey Jim,

NO grass last night. We were about a mile past the bull pen. Trying to read the water was difficult because the waves were flat and the wind was blowing over 25 knots. We just wanted to get some line wet.

This time of year you fish all tides and winds. You have a good shot at a striper anytime. With some nice E wind you do stand a better chance, but I wouldn't cancel my fishing trip just because of the W wind.

I am certainly no pro at reading the water, as a matter of fact that is my weakest skill by far. When you can read the waves, look for other things such as an area where there is a lot of debris or shells washed up. Look at the shoreline structure and sometimes you can see where the beach points out or has a gully in it. I have also heard on AI you can read the dune structure to get some idea of the historical trends of the water in front of the dunes. I am not quite sure what to look for but I am starting to take mental notes of how the dunes are when I do find the rare rip or big hole. Maybe one of these days i'll figure out the correlation or figure out that I am just batcrap crazy in thinking you can read the dunes.
