CG, I'm 6' and about 190. The Red was difficult to pick up, I know that for sure! I did a quick measurement while it was kicking and came up with the 47" I may not have got all the way to the tail tip (not fork).

Ya know, I think I did misread it!
Yeah, that's it, I did!

Now that I think about, I think it read 57"!!

I don't know if these additional pics will help but.....
The cigar was 4.5" long (hahahaha) and the circle hook in the sand is a 20/0 Mustad.

Oh!
Sam! Welcome to the club this fall! Nice feesh!
Little, but still nice.... (snicker-snicker)
I want a ST too!

Nice Sam, I caught one of those once. Bet you thought you had another one when that Sandtiger hit and probably the whole time you were fighting it. They fool me bigtime.
Steve if you are 6 foot I would bet a zillion bucks its longer than 47in. Nice fishies guys.

Sand bars and Sand tigers were the catches for me tonight. Had a ST foul everything up at one point. Broke one line, tangled another, I dropped my rod/reel in the surf as a wave came in and saw the sand just PILE up on it... I just about lost it...

But, I did see a very nice red pulled in. More to come about that later.

CG, I don't know. Maybe I've not caught enough reds to know better, but I think the ST's kind of run and then lay on the bottom. The drum that I have caught stay pretty active the whole time. That darn cownose ray fools me though. I think the wings rubbing the line make it feel like a head shake. And unlike other rays, they seem to stay active and off of the bottom.

Default I finally joined the club

hit AI around 6 pm got the lines out and set up everything else, about a half hour had passed when i finally get to go and check bait, as I am checking my first rod, i noticed a little awkward twitch in my other pole, just barely enough to get my attention, but then it happened, pole bent over and line started screamin. got the rod set the hook and fight was on, my wife was asleep in the car, so I am yelling for her, and just as I get her attention Sam shows up. Boy he showed up just in time. After a 45 minute fight and a battle in the strong current I landed her, estimate length to be around 45 inches or so, only had a three foot tape measure and it clearly wasnt long enough. anyway had to weight easily over 50 pounds. big healthy fish she is. Finally landed my first drum after hours and hours of trying.

Great job, Dave. I'm glad I could be there to see you land your first Red.

Now, Dave is 6' and at least 230lbs!

Just a little edit: Dave has been fishing AI all year and has put in more hours on a regular basis than anyone I have fished with. He is becoming a great fisherman and has amazing patience and persistence. This fish was much deserved!

ya'll need to get on the stick with the tape necklace...only costs a buck!

nice fish Dave, sounded like you had a tough run on sharks this season but a nice striper and a big ol'red may have changed your focus anyway.
