Default Fishing reports for July 24 - 30

Things still pretty quiet other then Ben23 catching some super sized sandtigers. Still waiting for some of the other species to show. Some kings, blues and spot are being caught in the surf zone with reports of flounder and a few croaker in the back bay.

Feel free to post your reports here...fish or no fish.

Tonight, fished with Dave and Sam. A mess of very LARGE croakers and a blue. Croaker action was non stop for about an hour. Yaked out baits and something kept swimming into the lines - rod would go down and then pop. I have had maybe one or two but not one after another...can't figure what was hitting the line. By the looks of the line, I am assuming sharks. Line was frayed and jagged where it broke. Lost a mess of rigs and just got fed up an dropped them in the trough where there was never a problem.

Left Sam and Dave still fishing.

Default Croakers!

Big croakers are finally here! Very good sign and the water was perfect. I hooked a live croaker up and yakked it out in close. I left it out there for at least an hour and brought it back in still alive.

If we are going to see some nice sharks this year, it will be soon. Good fishing with Dave, Tonya and Coop. Nice night on the sand.

Default Spadefish anyone??

This is my first time posting...
I am a captain of a charter boat in the middle bay region of the Chesapeake. Lately, with the salinity so high we have been catching quite a few spadefish. In fact, we caught a 10+pounder which the DNR is looking into registering as a state record for the Chesapeake Bay. This fish was caught inside of 72. Has anyone else had any luck with Spade fish in any number?

Good news on the Croakers. Hope to snag some tomorrow. Usually the bigguns used to be way out over the outer bar with single fireball rig for distance. Man I love how those bigger ones hit but need a heaver to get to them. Feels kind a weird and overkill. One year they were running 16 to 18in over the bar and under 14 inside it. One July trip I shall never forget. I would have never known the big ones were out there except my big shark baits kept getting hits so I kept dropping down in hook size.
Thanks for reports. First decent weekend winds albeit light all summer.

the biggest croaker I had last night was 16and a half inches, and I was not out very far. This is finally a good sign, and the winds look promising for the next week. I am really looking forward to monday thru wensday now.

Sweet, 16 is huge in my book and will fillet out nicely. Actually they are like puppy drum and a bear to fillet between the gill plate, fins and huge rib cage. As big as they look the fillets sure are tiny but worth the effort.
