Monday, 3 am until noon...yaked out baits, not even a run. Water felt a tad cool.

Thumbs up Late Report

Fished with DaveH, his Cousin Scott, thier two wives and Coop. Pretty windy from the South and the water was a bit rough yakking out at night, but we did manage a few fish. I caught two nice croakers for shark bait and later landed about a 5' sandbar which was surprisingly muscular for it's size. Later on, Scott had a Beautiful screamer just before 10:30 which got everyone's blood pumping.

Nice night and I hope it continues.

Thanks to Dave and his family for the great eats and always a pleasure to fish with my friends.

Nice pic. Looks like another toothie grabbed hold of its caudal fin. Brutal world out there. BTW I am pretty sure that is a Dusky

Phil watching Coop from a distance Friday negotiate those waves I swear it seemed mere minutes for him to clear the outer break and drop a bait. Those guys sure make it look easy. I am just waiting to see them land an 8 foot Hammerhead or Tiger one day. Even Duskies get that big but I think they are more pelagic at that size. What takes me hours to get in on my tackle they can land in minutes so no doubt they have not tested the limits of their stuff yet although that roughtail ray Sam caught few years back came close. Sandtigers don't count.
Sharkin by Yak is as cool to watch as catchin. I can see why those guys are so addicted. As was mentioned in another post I think they should try suspended baits higher up in the water column or even live line on a float. Maybe one line to keep the float in one place and another with the bait with a clip. Probably some good pier king mac/cobia rigs to copy. Those blues I was catchin would have been perfect bait.

Thumbs up

Dave, I think you are right about the Dusky. Smaller dorsal, no hump... I forgot to look for the ridge.

Sam another tell tale sign is the fact the dorsal sits further back in relation to the pectoral tips. The best way is to carry a magnifying glass and look at their scales/denticles. Duskies overlap like shinges on a roof whereas Sandbars are separate like cobblestones on a road. One of these days I will remember to bring one. Over the last 20 years it seems to me Duskies have made a huge comeback in the surf. I think I read they were recently protected in some areas.

Went fishing in the Narrows the other night ..............Not a real big night fishing wise ,but we did limmit out with 18 to 22 inch Rockies. On a another note in the Eastern Bay 2 events ......... a neighbor of mine was fishing the mouth of the Wye River in shallow water with plugs in the early morning and had really good luck with the rockies up to 30+ inches ....also a few days ago another neighbor saw 2 big ol Black Drum being caught at the Wye on Bunker heads. Once these kids get out of camp I'm headed up there to try both

I was fishing the choptank pier last week and I had two big runs which snapped me off pretty quick, first one ran under the pier and rubbed my line off the second snapped my running line because I was trying to horse it to keep from running under the bridge like the first one.

I wrote these off to Rays, now reading these reports I am just wondering if they where black drum. I know the salinity is pretty high right now because of the drought.

I was using big bunker chunks.
