Well, I was debating on going out after work today and finally decided that it was a go. I couldn't resist the beautiful wind blowing from the E SE.
I hit the beach around 5 and found Dave hanging around the Southern end of the isle. The beach was washed over pretty good so we drove a mile or two north where it was manageable. I had some nasty, old mushy bunker and I wasn't sure how it was going to hold up. I found one in the mix that was semi firm and put a chunk on and two heads. First cast and I had a fish on. She put up a little fight and took some line, which was very pleasing considering I haven't had any pullage in quite a while. The amazing part of this picture is that it is me holding a fish (that is amazing in itself) but it is also during the daytime! Well, I thought catching a fish on the first cast could either be a good thing or bad karma. But, I continued to throw mushy bunker and caught about 8-9 dogfish. I was all out of heads and I had a few more small chunks laying on the ground. I put three more rods out and then after about 15 minutes of knowing they were gone (I watched some of them fly off when it was daylight!) I decided to pack it up. Here is the strange part: I always pack up my rods/sand spikes first then the rest of my gear. Tonight, I packed up one rod and decided to let the others sit while I packed up my chair and as I was walking down to the water to wash off my bait board, one of the rods bends over... Not a good bend, typical dogfish bend and come back... Well, to my great surprise, it was another striper! Great evening all in all. Thanks to Dave for taking the pics. One other thing... The last one I caught had a stick about 12" long up it's anus. At first, I thought it was a tag, but then I realized that it as about 6-8" inside the fish! It was about the width of a chop stick. Anyone ever heard of that?
