Hi Sam....Not much of a catching report but I guess I should report the less productive days as well. Maybe someone else will benefit. I bet the 5/25 fish on the Bucks board is one of the two I saw. I was flippin when I saw those two fish as we were drivin down the beach. Both within 5 mi. from the ramp. I was about to hyper ventilate. I'll probably begin the family Sat routine from here on out fishing for the small stuff till fall. If I get a wild hair I may solicit some advice on big shark fishing but we don't do many evening trips. I'll be at it hard again this fall and I have a rendevous (sp?) with a lady in Red. Hopefully she and I can renew aquaintances. Might even sign up for the tourney. Site is looking good by the way.

Fished from around 7:00am till 8:30pm today about 3.5 miles down the OSV zone. GREAT DAY to be on the beach, very little wind until around 2:30 it picked up quite a bit then calmed down after 5:00pm.
Morning was productive with skate till around 8:00am I hooked into a nice striper (probably around 38") but I lost in when I got it on the beach. As soon as I put my rod back in the spike and started to walk towards the fish to get the hook out he did it himself and swam away. As I was re-baiting my hook I noticed my other rod diping and diving. Ended up with a medium sized blue (22 - 24"). I didn't measure him or take a pic because it took me longer than planned to get the hook out and I didn't want to waste anymore time running for my camera, so I just released him. Then it was back to skates till around 9:30am. Not a single hit of anything from 9:30 till around 7:00pm. Then the doggies came in hard. it was one after the other, a couple times I couldn't even walk back to put the rod in the spike after casting and a doggie was already on. I couldn't take anymore after around 20 or so doggies I packed it up and let someone else on the beach. Them doggies where even attacking the HUGE heads I was throwing. Thats when I knew it was time to quit. FYI-- It took me over an hour to get on the beach. I arrived at AI a little before 6:00am and didn't get out till 7:00am. Bull Pen was PACKED with campers. Nobody within a mile of me fishing on the beach. It was really really quiet other than a few walkers on the beach. PS -- don't try and get on the beach anytime soon. I talked to Sam on my way out and he was waiting for over 2 hours already and wasn't even close to getting on the beach.

Yep.. 5 hours wait to get on the sand last night. It was my stupidity, but I had a hankerin' for fishing and couldn't help myself. Doggies and skates, but a beautiful night with nobody in sight. Talked to one ranger while in line and there were 93 campers in the bull pen around 7pm.
When I pulled off at 6:30 this morning the line was still backed up to the pumps. It's going to be a long day for those folks...

I like the photos Oliver.
Even your father said how great the pictures look - that is - after he made his usual comments about the water all looking exactly the same and how he thinks we just keep showing the same fish photo over and over again! And guys - if you think that dolphin looked great - you should have tasted it! Poppa and I had some for supper tonight. Yum . . .As to my fishing report - I took the kayak out into the bay on Friday but it was too windy to fish. My anchor wouldn't even hold. So I only stayed out for about and hour and a half - catching lots and lots of grass and paddling against the wind the whole time. I was disappointed about not catching anything, so that evening I had Poppa drop me off at Leonard's Pond in Salisbury. I fished for an hour and a half while he picked up what we needed at Sam's Club. I caught one bass and that made my day. That little pond is teaming with bass. I wish I would have had more time, but since it was my first visit to that pond - I spent most of my time checking things out. Saturday I kayaked/fished from Porter's Crossing to Snow Hill - but didn't catch anything. This high pressure system has been making things difficult on the river. Zech said I didn't catch anything because I was dragging the minnow bucket alongside the kayak. He said the minnows were warning the other fish to stay away. I bought them to use in the bay. Next time I'm going to drop the extras off for Oliver to use up. I really do not like fishing with minnows in the river. Yesterday I put in at Red House Road. I had a good feeling since the pressure was finally falling. I chased a gigantic muskie down the river for about a mile. That thing was huge - but I couldn't get him to bite. (Hum - bet he would have taken one of those minnows if I had kept them!) I caught a shad while aiming for the muskie. Around the next bend I tossed my Trixie Shad into a ripple thinking it might be a bass. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that I had a huge striper on the line. He measured 27.5" I was so excited - because I thought he was big enough to keep. I called Oliver and he said not until June 15. Well - I looked it up today and see that Oliver was wrong. The season for keeping 18" stripers started on May 16th for the mainstem Chesapeake and it starts for all of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries on June 1. I thought for sure I could finally take home a striper to cook for Poppa. It was extremely exciting, though, to catch a striper in the river. It's funny how that size striper seems so small when surf fishing - but it seems like a giant when you catch it in the river. Guess that has something to do with the equipment. Fortunately I was using my baitcaster with 30 lb. braid, although - I had the drag set very loose and when I tried to tighten it up - I was turning the star the wrong way - so all my winding of the handle wasn't doing anything. I didn't have too much trouble landing him once I turned it the right way . After that I caught a four-pound largemouth bass. I was having a great day - but ended up having to leave to run an errand for Oliver. Guess what Oliver - next time run your own errand. I've been waiting for a day where I can catch one fish right after the other. But - I can't stay too angry - not after eating that great mahi-mahi for supper!

Well a great weekend to be on the water. My cousin ended up not having anyone else come out to fish with him so off we went to the bay on the 2901 Sat morning. We got into some nice sized croaker on and off all day. I'm sure we could've caught a bunch more but we ended up looking around for Stripers, Blues, trout, well anything but more croaker. We did manage 3 Flounder, all Released. One was caught on stingsilver jigging, two other caught on bottom rigs on squid. 2 around 15" The one on the jig probably could've been kept, however threw the jig at the surface as I was grabbing the net. Sunday we Headed out of OC Inlet and made the run for the african queen Reef. As my youngest put it, we caught the ocean skunk on sun. We really didn't get a chance to fish very hard though. Ciara wasn't really doing so hot out on those little rollers passing under us. Even though we were skunked, great fun was had by all bouncing over the waves on the 12 mile run out. When we headed back in we anchored on the northern tip of Assateague, just across the inlet, jumped off the boat and spent about 30-45 min on the beach. Ok, so now to the pictures, 1st Picture is the nice 25 croakers we caught on Sat, all in the 13-16" range Several smaller ones were thrown back. Oh, the croaker we all caught on squid, clam or bloodworms, in 20'-65' of water. Next is my youngest Brittany riding in the back of the boat on the way out to the african queen. The two looking back at OC are pretty self explanatory and finally Myself and the girls riding on the bow of the boat right near the Rt 50 Bridge.

Finally got the skunk off. 7 stripers 48, 47, 46, 38, 38, 36, 35in. and the biggest puffer I have ever seen on my 15/0 striper hooks. Seems every time we moved I would catch a cow on first cast and that was it for that spot. Best bite was on the SE. Once she went went S and mucked water up had to move to points north but caught fish no matter where we fished. There many more cows caught by other fishers. Hope they hang tilll Friday.
