With the 7.3 and a few mods, I get about 19.1 mpg combined and have no idea for highway economy.
What kind of mods do you have? I have a '02 F350 with the 7.3, and the best I get is about 15 mpg. To the beach and back, with the camper on, it's about 14. I'm happy with the power, but the mileage could be better. Of course, now that I have a 4WD motorhome, I don't use the truck as much. The MH has the V10, and that really sucks gas. |

I have 2004 F250 with the 6.0. Close to 50,000 miles on it. Service it myself (easiest oil change ever). So far it's been a good truck
Only real problem is they are big. I could only get the cab in the garage before the lift and tires now only to the windshield. I would like a slide in also but they are just too much money in my opinion. Can't justify the cost yet.Last edited by Greenhorn; 05-19-2007 at 02:12 PM.. Reason: add to post |

I miss my Power Stroke! That was the Problem I had.... She started to Rot out so, I sold her. Had an Awesome F250 w/ the 7.3 w/ 112K.... Nothing! But, the frame and body were showing signs of rot for a 1996. I'd buy another one in a Heart beat. I think the 19mpg is about right. I thought I got 20. It's a Tough call now... The Price Tag on Dsl v. Gas. In 1995 it was Very Easy. Dsl was 0.95 cents V. 1.3? for Gas. I remember doing a Cost Comparision on When the Dsl would be Cheaper. Now, the cost of Dsl and Gas are so close (Which is WRONG WRONG WRONG IMO).

I agree on the price discrepancy of fuels.
It costs far less to refine diesel than gas. With the gasoline market, they do not have a "captive audience". Most persons who use gas can find alternative means such as a bicycle or mass transit. The majority of diesel burners MUST buy it no matter the cost. Why? Simply because it is the larger trucks that must get the products like groceries, parts and all other goods to market. And these folks burn diesel! So in short, a captive audience no matter the price.... A like-sized rig to mine using gasoline would get about 5 mpg less than I do using diesel. Also, maint costs on my engine are oil and filter, that's it! No spark plugs, tune-ups, etc. Larger boat owners know the benefits of diesel, mainly the economy of the type of fuel.

LOL... You guys keep me cracking up.
When I get rich like you guys, I'm going to get one of those monster campers. Even though I only live 5 minutes from the beach, it would be SO nice to have one when I've been hankerin' for some long term fishing excursions. I tend to come home, fall asleep and wake up after a few tides have come in and gone back out.. Doesn't mesh well with the time/catch ratio.
