Default Casting practice this weekend

Well I will be down again this weekend but Friday right now looks like a no go. Saturday and Sunday look pretty good for what I need....some casting practice!! West winds. Anyway I realize one thing. My casting needs work. I am not sure it makes a difference up north, but down south I believe casting distance is a real key!!! I have been paying attention to how Ben and Scott cast. I know I gotta get better, so I bought Ron Arra's book and will be trying some stuff out. Looking foward to it. My goal is to improve my casting enough that I can lay a bigger bait further out by sharkin season. Maybe be able to crank it out there by drum season. I have been messing around with my two squidders and I kinda like them now, getting better all the time, now I just need to improve my distance.

Anyway maybe I can run into a striper this weekend while practicing!:icon_thu mleft:

Phil, you put on about 10 yards from the start of the weekend, you definitely made some progress during those 3 days. It really helps to have prolonged casting, by the end you are really in a groove. That thumbdinger will help hold the spool as well, I swear by it now. With that W you'll definitely have to launch it, hopefully something will catch it on the other end.

Ben,

I am working on it. Last weekend was the first time out this year. Plus I made the bonehead move of bringing THREE DIFFERENT reels with me. One squidder, one 30 slosh and one 40 slosh. Anyway I feel that you need to have one type reel on all rods to really be consistent with surf casting. But I don't have three of any reel yet. Better to have the same rig/weight also. Then you can really dial it in.

This weekend I am bringing two squidders and my two slosh30's.
