Generally they are in very close, so keep the cast very short, sometimes just pass the shore break and if you have two rods, throw one long just in case. If you are only using one rod for the blacks, keep it short. Last year, I was casting as long as I can and caught some, but have heard they are generally in very close. I use 6 or 7/0 gami circle hooks on a rig like this...basically a 2 hook fishfinder rig with clam.

Hit the beach around 5:30 this morning for about 6 hours the fog never really broke. After sling my first rod out about 10 min later she bent down far, started to reel it in with some weight to it then the line went dead a little bit later pulled in a 3 foot doggie then some " lots " skates by this time the fog was starting to lift and I could see the guy fishing about 300 yards up form me. As the morning went on the fog lifted some more and by that time there was about 5 or 6 people fishing the point, the bait was starting to run low from all the skate ( I took about 10 to 12 lbs ) then to my surprise I hooked in to a 30" blue and a little bit later my friend that I went out with hooked one about 20" after that the bite slowed down and the bait was gone and a lite rain was starting to come down so we packed it in for the day.

With seeing some blues out there it will not be long for the rocks to show can't wait for next week.

Good deal, David. 30" bluefish is a nice catch and a good sign.

Fished about a mile south of the bull pen today, nothing but skate! I did hear of a black drum caught farther down.

AMSA1166, I must have been right down the beach from you. I was fishing a little south of the bull pen myself.
