Default Surf fishing reports for March

Spring is right around the corner and so are the fish,,,so get your gear ready,,,water temps never dropped below 40, so maybe the fish will arrive sooner,,,who knows,,,get out there and have fun!

Figured it was a nice day and decided the last minute to go home after work and spool up my reels and go fish,,,got to the beach around 3:30, nice weather, calm winds, but it turned nasty quick,,,was planning on fishing well into the night but a nasty lightning storm came out of the blue,,,I was actually a little nervous and packed up quick,,,it was the first time that I was actually afraid I was going to get zapped,,,cloud to cloud lightning and cloud to ground lightning everywhere,,,very creepy and it got real windy and cold before the lightning even started,,,it was pretty wild,,,anyway, caught 2 stripers both around 25" with frozen bunker before the wind started to blow,,,water temp was 42*,,,it was nice to get a little tug.

Wow! It is nice to see a fish caught! Great job, Scott.

I guess it is better to leave when the storms roll up. EEK!

I'm planning on heading out next week.

Nice. 8) Do you think the fish ever left this year It seems like a few, hung around all winter.

Normally towards the end of April is when it gets started with the big ones but the way the late fall and winter have been going, who knows :?,,,could be earlier,,,it seems like the small ones have been here all winter long,,,I don't think water temps ever dropped below 42* this winter which may have kept the little guys chilling in the surf.

Went out to AI around 9 this morring befor I could get my lines in the water (belive it or not ) I had to pull out a couple of rangers that got stuck while checking out a dead baby wheal of some kind The two ladies were very happy to be out of the sand, by the time I got back down to were I set up witch was about 1/4 mile from them and got my lines in the water they were stuck again I was going to go back up and help them again but there was another range there by then witch made me happy for the only reason that I just pulled in my first rock of 06 only 24" but it was good to see one this early

after that not another hit all day

Looks like the bug has hit me and I'll now have to some way make it out every week. So get your gear ready they will be here soon....

Very nice, Dave! I wish I could have made it out there. I thought you might cancel because of the weather. I've got my gear all ready and waiting.

Well, what a great day on Assateague. The weather was unusually warm, the winds were calm coming from the SE.

We probably caught a combined total of 25 large spiney dogfish.

It was good meeting you, Drifter! 8)

I enjoyed meeting and fishing with Sam and Coop. Looking forward to the next time out. I'll keep an eye out for you. I had a thunderstorm on the drive home so I didn't have to hit the carwash right away.

Went south for some warmer water and found 8 of these. My biggest ever at 51 and also got a 50. Water in upper 50s with SW winds. What a way to start the season. Life is good.
